Seeing them tells me where they are coming from (about 90% sure though) and that's how I know.

Question2.

It is an Islamic tradition just as the placenta is believed to be bad and thrown away (even though some people don't believe its entirely bad, sun-dry it and later use it for 'agbo' concoction for the mother of the child. The baby's hair is considered filthy and should be removed before naming the child.

Hair can be washed if dirty, it doesn't need to be shaved.

Nobody has explained why people have to shave locks to become Muslim.

Just as no one is able to explain why it is so important for an African to adopt an Arab name in Islam.
