"who's to be blamed?" was the question I asked myself until I fell asleep.

Honestly, I could not blame dad, neither could I put the blame on mom.

My dad was a soldier, a man that does everything for his family. He wasn't the nagging father until mom started missing out in discharging some of her duties. I could say, he was pushed beyond limit.

I could not blame mom too, because she was a fighter. Even a blind man would see that the work load on her was just too much for her shoulder. I could say she was was under too much pressure. The pressure to perform excellently in different aspect.

Since dad refused getting a new help after the last one we had, taking care of house chores was the most difficult task.
I tried to help in my own little ways, but there were lot of things I could not handle. Especially cooking.

That very night, I went to bed with the hope that before day break, my parent would have become friends again since they were soul mates. How wrong could I be?
***********

The first thing I noticed the following morning was that, my parent were avoiding the each other. None of them said a word to eachother, not even during breakfast. Dad kept on stirring his cup of coffee until it was time to leave for work. He left his lunch on the table and hurried out of the house without saying goodbye to mom.

Without been told, I knew dad was still mad and mom was nursing her wound. I was sad my parent stayed mad at each other and I was ready to do anything to have a happy home again, but I was lost on what to do.

During our ride to school, I watched dad focus on the road with a sad face. He had no smile on and he was just too different from who he used to be. Deep down, I was sad and this made me decide to talk to my dad, hoping he would listen to me.

I cleared my throat and called his name softly, just the way I do whenever I wanted to request for something.

He replied with little attention and I went further.

"Dad......... Are you happy? "
I asked and looked at him in the eye.
He didn't give a response, he only looked at me and faked a smile. I knew he was trying to dodge my question, so I asked him again.
He came clean the second time, he told me he wasn't sure if his happiness was guaranteed.
I asked if it was because of mom and he responded "yes"

I thought for awhile, trying to figure out what the cause of the disagreement could be. The only thing that came to my mind, was food.

"Dad, is it because she didn't make dinner?"
I asked and he scoffed.
"but we ate out yesterday, or you weren't full? "
I continued.

With a hand on the wheel, dad held my face with his other hand and said "it isn't about dinner princess"

"then it's about what?"
I asked with confusion.

Dad removed his hand from my face, he looked at me and said "you won't understand baby, you are still small"

His response got me wondering what exactly went wrong. I watched my dad face the road and pretend to have his full attention on the wheel but I knew his mind was far away.

I was little but I was smart. I knew pushing him to tell Me more might lead to a mood swing so I didn't bother to.
I only requested for a favour. I pleaded with him to talk things over with mom, I told him to set rules that would favour the both of them and he promised to give my words a trial.

"Dad, remember you said you guys are soul mates, or does it have a new meaning now? " I asked as dad pulled over at my school.
He smiled and told me
"no."
Dad held me tight in his arms before I finally alighted.
I was happy dad listened to me and my hope was restored.
**************

During school hours, I decided I would talk to mom as well. Since she would be picking me up in the afternoon, I concluded to have a chat with her on our way home.

During our ride home, I allowed mom settle on the wheel, before I touched her laps softly and said.
" mom, can we talk? "

She smiled and said "yes, dear"
I jammed my palms together and said

"Mom, I know you have lots of things to do and the task on your shoulder is bigger than you, but I still want you to find time to make dad happy. Please talk things through with him"

Mom smiled weakly and said "you are really a smart kid"

I knew mom was trying to change the topic but I didn't give her the chance to. I pleaded with her until she agreed with my terms. I was so happy I could accomplish my my goal at the end of the day.
****************

That very evening, my parent locked themselves up as soon as dad got back from work. I concluded they were talking things out so I took care of Liam.
After the Long in Door meeting, they both came out smiling. I was proud of myself and my parent.

Dad also took us all out to dinner. We were all happy again and I was most happy because I was able to help my parents out of their mess.
We were happy, but it was just for a while.
********

I guessed my parent were able to keep up with their laid out plan for awhile.

After awhile, things got messier. Our home became a battle field where snubbing was the order of the day.
It wasn't as if I didn't try to help, I tried talking to dad and he continued to listen to me until one day. I guessed he was tired of my daily sermon.
He got angry and pushed me away, with the warning that I should never interfere in adult matters again.

I didn't blame him, neither did I hold anything against him, I belived when people could not take thing no more, they change and it's only The people you love that can change you.

My family was broken, just that was not divided. The outsiders saw us as a happy home but deep inside, everything was shattered. No love, no joy, no happiness. Everything was upside down and I lived each day, waiting for a miracle. A miracle that would bring us back to who we were.

Do you know how its feels to almost have an attack whenever you are returning home?
Not sure if there would Be quarrel, argument or fight?

That was the way I felt whenever It was time to go home.

"Home, broken Home"

END OF CHAPTER.
