DeRay98:
In terms of achievement, longevity and consistency in action for Nigeria, Vincent Enyeama is #1 and unrivalled.
His success has been under appreciated due to the many needless hiccups caused by the ever incompetent NFF.
Peter Rufai is next but he seems to have respect than Enyeama because of the fact that he was last of the generation that was in action in days when our league was pulling crowds and Stationery Stores was Lagos fans darling club.
Dosu Joseph has no place in top 15.
He only kept and won at the Olympics and a few Super Eagles matches later before his accident.
Baruwa has no place here either though he had more matches that Disu, he was inconsistent.
David Ngodigha, late Wilfred Agbonavbare did great at critical points in WC qualifiers.
Agbonavbare only made a mistake in one match in a Wafu Cup in 1984 and Nig lost to Togo 2:4 and the Nig press black mailed him thereafter which many people didn't know what happened but kept rubbishing his name for long.
Alloy Agu had Westerhoff's favour with Christian Chukwu's influence from 1986-92. Being young from Flying Eagles of 1985, they hope he would improve but he never did but Westerhoff ignored other options, as far as defence was good he was kept there till his error reached its peak in Senegal "92 Nations Cup semi-final and Nig lost to Ghana.
At that time Agbonavbare had been the 2nd Best Goal keeper in Spain for 3yrs but they ignored his performances.
Not wanting to risk Agu errors again, Westerhoff brought Wilfred back and kept goal for all the matches in 1994 WC qualifiers and most of the Nations cup qualifying matches.
Rufai had been out of football after Maroc "88 Nations cup, he went to school in Spain and came out with Master's degree.
By 1993, he was returning to action but rusty. After Nig had qualified for the Nations Cup with 2 matches to spare Rufai was recalled to be tested in the inconsequential mstches and his return started from there.
Okala was a collosus mostly to his intimidating height.
His time was not that long in the 70s before Ogedengbe displaced him 1980.
Ogedengbe time was not that long too. His success in the 1980 NC made him.
By 1982, Rufai, Patrick Okala (Emma Okala's younger brother) and the return of Peter Fregene from the cooler displaced Ogedegbe for good. Fregene didn't continue after Libya "82, Pat Okala and Rufai continued to "84 NC.
Only Rufai remained from that time till David Ngodigha and Wilfred (from a successful 1983 Flying Eagle).

I completely agree with you but between Rufai and Enyeama, I will pick Rufai because of his unrivaled presence of mind and game control. Rufai could also add that needed razzmatazz especially when the going gets tough. He was a complete delight to watch at his peak. Kindly watch Rufai against Algeria, the semifinal match at Marco 88. Enyeama is good, perhaps slight more reassuring than Rufai but he lacked that total presence of mind like Rufai at his peak.

No mind Baruwa....he was destined to be great right from Sec school (Up IC) until he lost his spot to Dosu in Atlanta 96 and we had to rely on Rufai in France 98 when Baruwa decided to dribble Predrag Mijatovic in a friendly against Yugoslavia towards France 98

Baruwa...Omo Alhaji ......No Baruwa, No Shooting stars grin

Including Lucky Agbonasevbaefe (First Golden Eaglets goal keeper China "85).
Most of were at the time Rufai, David Ngodigha and Alloy Agu held the SE.
While they were good at the junior level in their height, Most Of them were too short, less than 1.82m (6ft) tall except Lucky Agbons exactly 6ft tall.
Even Lucky Agbons was told by Westerhoff that he was too short in compared to Rufai and Wilfred (about 6.3ft) tall.
Watch YouTube videos, you 'll see all of them in action.

late Wilfred Agbonasevbaefe we salute him too

Ike Shorounmu retired from the super eagles after the 2002 world cup; he played from 1992-2002 not 2000-2009.
He played second fiddle to Rufai for almost a decade. I think that's why he didn't make up to 40 appearances

that man nearly cost us a place at Atlanta 1996

first it was his age and then too many blunders (basket keeper)

thank God joseph Dusu

he should be placed among the worse super eagles keepers grin

How old are you? Did you watch Abiodun Baruwa when he played for Kano Pillars? Or when he played for Shooting Stars?

Did you watch him when he saved 3 penalties in the 1995 All African Games third place match against Algeria?

Baruwa was only dropped from the Atlanta 1996 squad because of age discrepancy, not because of performance. So don't come here to bamboozle your fellow indomie generation by spreading lies. Baruwa was one of our best.

so guys who will you consider as the greatest or who will you add to the list

Lets go thereā€¦.
ItsQuinn, safarigirl, shizzy7, Smellymouth, Mediapace, refiner, suwalee, optional1, vivianblog1, cruzita, klexycole, VickyRotex, blueto, TheSuperNerd, mikron, TonyeBarcanist, Ajibel, honeric01, Icon4s, TheGoodJoe,

I saw little of Ogedengbe and so have faint memories of his heroics.I was not much of a football follower then. Though I learnt from my elder siblings that he was a very tricky goalie. One that could smartly pull back a ball that had crossed the goal line and claim it was no goal grin
Ogedengbe's problem started from the 1982 AFCON hosted in Libya. We had a dismal outing at that AFCON as we crashed out at the group stage. Peter Rufai, a younger goalies was drafted into the team in 1983. (We then as children used to call him Peter Rufive. Five as in 5)

I saw the start and end of Peter Rufai. From the 1984 AFCON which was his maiden competition to France 98 World Cup which was his last.
Rufai was excellent. U could hardly beat him with long range shots. His dives were second to none. He was at a time during the 1988 AFCON nicknamed 'the Flying Roof'. Also his kicks were like long range free-kicks that go straight into opponents 18yards box. grin

For all his heroics his weakness was close range headers. Oh I will not forget Mitchelle Basole of CIV, Nigeria vs Ivory coast, 1994 AFCON semi. And it became worse as he aged. Rufai was known for fantastic saves that we'll shout 'Rufailaaaa!!!! or some would say Rufiiiii!!!!!or other would say roof! roof! roof!.But he also conceded some cheap goals and we would be like "wetin do Rufai?" shocked

Vincent Enyeama is Nigeria's best Goalie.

He is more complete than Peter Rufai. I need not describe Enyeama here because I know we all, even the youngest person here, know him wella.

I know Abiodun Baruwa aka "Omo Alhaja" very well.

A fantasic goalie destined for greatness.

He was supposed to replace Peter Rufai but e be like say dem dey follow him from village. First the age discrepancy prio to '96 Olympics and then that friendly prio to France '98: Nigeria 1 : 5 Holland. O the Dutch so messed Baruwa up. Baruwa just dey jump dey fall for ground like pregnant woman. He was already getting too fat. Then also Nigeria 0 : 3 Yugoslavia. Baruwa wan turn Messi for field dem collect ball for him leg score us. grin
Peter Rufai was called back from retirement to keep goal at France '98. That was the end of Abiodun Baruwa.

To me, Abiodun Baruwa, while in his element, was a FANTASTIC goalkeeper. Regardless of his growing belly, dude was as agile as a Cat and was very hard to beat between the sticks. He singlehandedly picked 3SC, time and again, by the bootstraps in their Winners Cup march to the finals, what year was that again ?

In fact, he was so good that at a point I felt he used Juju.

He was truly destined for greatness and I thought he should have achieved far more despite the clangers he committed in the friendlies prior to France 98.
