Wrong pronounciation by the Hausa's and other tribes who came to do business with us back then. Due to repeated use, it stuck but is gradually been corrected.

Pronounce TIV and Tivi. TIV is one syllable while Tivi is two. As per your example, its wrong spelling and cant be noticed when pronouncing both words.
