Very thoughtful but where in Europe do you think is the best for interracial family with kids in Europe.I mean Nigeria plus European wife and kids.

Sorry for answering you late. I guess you mean apart from the UK and Ireland, right? Amsterdam is my favourite, job permitting.

These two countries fall in the same category on many fronts, but I know many people that have crossed from the Scandinavian countries to either Germany or the Netherlands, not the other way round. Once English is not the official language of a country, settling down is not a tea-party. It is for this reason I always advise people to try English-speaking countries first. Failing that, the Netherlands is the next best thing, and Amsterdam is my favourite city there. You might have to go to another city/town before you can find a job though. But you walking down the streets of Amsterdam with your wife and kids, and some cruel racists raining insults on you is rare.

For low and middle skilled jobs I think you earn pretty more in Norway because there is not much difference in income levels in Norway as the income gap is narrow.

But if you are highly skilled professional or CEO in Germany, I think you earn more in Germany and coupled with the Comparative low cost of living in Germany, you end up having good bucks left with you at the end of the day.

I would have suggested Canada or Australia.....

Then I saw the below

I don't know much about cheap schools in both countries but I would advice you visit the Canadian and Australian student visa threads to learn more.

I think Belgium/Holland.
You can be black or purple but you still fit in, racial prejudice is literally absent (compared to other European countries), Communication in English is largely obtainable and if you are legal, true equal employment opportunities exist, regardless of your ethnicity.
Switzerland: A black unit sticks out like a sore thumb and you feel the occasional weight of racial discrimination at times, which could range from being mild to intense. Then again the language challenge sneaks in- You gotta know French & German... yeah its kinda like a bi/tri lingual country. You see the thing with Swiss is, it's quite difficult to settle in there as a legal migrant, they have the stiffest Immigration policy in Europe as a whole, so asides being a student, diplomat, special fxn or married to a Swiss woman, you will always attract law enforcement to yourself as a foreigner.
Germany: it's obviously the big apple of western Europe but asides the language challenge, it is not easy being a migrant in Germany as the competition is very high because everyone wants to be in Germany.
Denmark, Finland, Norway: Good countries but very errrm personal people (basically, they keep to themselves alot, don't expect caring neighbours) ...However, there is a language challenge, though some Scandinavians speak English esp Norwegians but don't expect it from everything like ATMs for example.
Sweden: I classed Sweden alone for good reason, it used to be a great place until the immigrant crisis occured... there is this subtle hostility Swedish folk harbor towards foreigners now esp if you are of colour.
The language challenge also exists in Sweden.
France: Trust me forget about moving here... no need to explain.
Austria: Personally, I would have loved Austria, if not for the Language, these guys don't even give a hoot about English. Like an Austrian can speak English but deliberately chooses to speak to you in German even if you do not understand. Mheen the language challenge is huge, so unlike Germany where people switch to English if necessary. One looses out on opportunities just because of a lack of German knowledge in Austria.
Poland: Forget about this one.
Greece: This one too...
Czech Republic: Trust me this country is sloooooow... It's really meant for themselves, they are pretty much laid back in everything they do. Then a Language problem exists as well, some Czechs find people of colour fascinating others don't.
Slovenia & Slovakia: Think of Czech people who behave Russian for some odd reason ... well good countries but language issues and laid back lifestyles. Yes! You are gonna face discrimination (I said it)
Spain: It depends on how you want to view a half glass of water that's how life in Spain is.
Of course Spanish is a must!
Portugal: Think Spain with a different language that's Portugal. If you raised your kids in Portugal, they'd probably sing Cristiano Ronaldo nursery Rhymes everyday... in both countries I.e Spain and Portugal Farming in large scale is quite lucrative (asides football). Its also quite easy to get around immigration issues(don't ask me how).
Italy: As an Immigrant......
No be from my mouth you go hear say Okra dey draw...
For me its Belgium/Holland all the way.
Oh I forgot, you get a Belgian passport pretty fast if you are a legal resident. Unfortunately our bomb totting friends have caused them to review that clause, it may change soon.
Hello there, I was searching for a good European country to move to and I came across your post. Quite informative, I must admit. Though, that was January and this is April. Can I still go with all you've said or is it possible somethings might have changed? I've always been bent on going to Canada, then thought I could be better off in Europe. So I want to refocus my goals well before putting in all my effort. I really do hope you come online often so you'd see this early enough.

Asides Brexit and IS terrorism which is causing a general shake up in the EU as a whole, everything I wrote in my analysis of Europe applies.

Getting a job is the main determinant of a bad or giid country. Every other thing is secondary. EU laws applies to all these countries and there's absolute obedience rule of law. You can take a citizen of any of those countries to court, claim damages and win them if they cross a boundary. What is a "beautiful" country with low job prospect?
I also heard someone mention Turkey. Turkey ko, Chicken ni.

Good day lovely Nigerians, I want to ask a question, I have a job that pays fairly well but I'm not really enjoying it. So I plan to save for four years (5 million) to go to an English speaking country in Europe and further. which is the best country that
1. I can work and study
2. That have volumes of job for intl students
3. That will pay me well after graduation
4. That my savings( 5 million) can satisfy and make me relaxed

My fear is quitting my job in Nigeria and not succeeding abroad. Thanks and hope to hear numerous suggestions to this

I think people have given you good pieces of advice. Since you are a family that gives me the impression that you want to settle down there. So let`s restrict ourselves to Western Europe. I guess you are a Nigerian which means that the English language matters. That would then limit you to the only two countries that have English as lingua franca in Western Europe: United Kingdom and Ireland. If you ask me where to choose between the two countries, it would be the UK all day long. Why? The population of The Republic of Ireland is less than 5 million while that of Uk is almost 70 million. I think that matters because the more the people the better your chances...all other things being equal.. Moreover UK has the largest population of Nigerians in Western Europe.

Now, if you don`t mind living in a country that doesn`t have English as the official language, then Germany, Holland and the Scandinavian countries are the best in Western Europe. The truth is that if you live outside Holland, Germany, Finland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden it means you have not lived in one of the best countries in Europe.

But you have a Nigerian family, looking forward to raising your children in Europe, as well as looking for a salaried job or self-employed, I think your best bet is the United Kingdom. Let me point out that Ireland uses the Euro while UK uses the Pounds Sterling that might become more significant in the next two months. Good luck

Hello @Ateri, your write-ups is well inspiring. Please I'm presently thinking of relocating to the UK, I've not been there before though I've traveled out of the country before and Im a working class. What are the step by step guide you can give to me on how to go about it, also, what a are my chances of settling down quickly there as well as getting a job to support myself. Thanks in anticipation of your response.

Apologies for late response, I have not been here for some time now.

It has been a while since I last made enquiries about immigration, so can`t be of much help on that.

As per relocating, Brexit is a game changer, but how is it going to affect those outside the EU? Difficult to answer that, but it may not be too bad for countries like Nigeria. Once Europeans have no free access, that may force UK`s hands-into relaxing strict immigration rules. But at present, things are too hazy in London. Problem is, it may not get better any time soon, which is my own way of saying the choice is yours. When it comes to coming abroad, there would always be one issue or the other to worry about. Right now, Germany seems to be a relatively better choice for immigrants. Good luck

Are you sure that country would be any good for you? Well I have never lived there before but it is a very small country of less than 500k people living in it. It used to be ok economically, but that changed a while ago. Nigerians go to school everywhere, so you may be able to study there, but I`m not sure of employment, especially in a country that doesn`t use English as its official language.

Yes its true. switzerland for me too

You guys should always put into consideration where you can easily integrate yourself. It depends on your background and your target.Switzerland wouldn't be a good idea for someone trying to start from the scratch because they have a very high power distance out there and also the country is gonna be too expensive for you.You hardly see people doing menial jobs out there cos the money you earn is not gonna be enough for you to take care of your bills. If you skilled then good.

England would be a good place for you to hide your head for survival,Very good for someone moving out of Nigeria to start from the scratch,You easily get to see Nigerians. Some of them are willing to help you while some of them might also hurt you,but you will be fine.

Germany is a country that you really need to work hard on your self and get things going,Your life must be documented and you must also be able to communicate with the language if not,You wont really be able to operate in the society, its also a police country and a country with so many rules and regulations. If you able to meet all these terms then yeah,Germany is good.

Holland is a nice place to be,Very humble people people and the laws also are very Liberal and fair.France also is not bad.

Norway,Finland,Denmark and Sweden are off course the best place to be in Europe but i think someone might not be able to cope out there without proper documentation and good job.You get single out of the society easily and the Living standard there is way very expensive. The Last time i went to Sweden the public transportation prices scare the hell out of me.

There is nothing wrong in using Iceland as a stepping stone to another countries. So get to Iceland first then you will look at your options from there. As long as you get there legally, I don`t think moving on from there, would be a problem.

Wow. I love this thread so much. This is the only thread I have seen people with positive minds and who are ready to assist with updated information. Thanks to all who have contributed in one way or the other. I av been scared reading other thread b4 now. But I have great hope again that I can survive in Europe. I av started my process, though with an agent to get a 3months schengen visa in the next few weeks. Hoping to come in through France. But he recommended Austria as the final destination. Hope this is a good step. I'm married though and av a daughter, but I will be living alone for now.

What's are my opportunities there looking at gaining residence or getting a work permit...? I would love your good answers. Thanks guys.
