Howmon:...if it bothered on their fundamental human rights then they should'nt have been in such a school in the first instance...there is no case here.....i attended a christian all boarding secondary school and we had muslims there as well...but it was made know to all parents that once your child is there they would attend all christian programs ...there was no allowance for any muslim activity...it was clear....papers were signed upon admission and so we had muslims who were even often picked to lead us in devotions...in the christian way.....if as a parent you are not ok with that....then wat business did you have bringing your ward to such a school.....in all those muslim schools we have...can a christian attend there?...no, because you either have to be a muslim or risk being converted to one. |

Exciton:There's a contract with an agreement. The student signed the contract knowing fully well the consequences so the constitution shouldn't be a yardstick to misbehave. If you're in Rome behave like a Romian |

himee:I understand but you suppose understand say na church school. Yes they communicated to the parents but have read the terms and conditions in respect to the rules and regulations of the school. Using Redeem university style of discipline isn't a yardstick because every school has it's own rules. Try and read through their rules and check for their terms and conditions |

Not been here in a while. Why are you mentioning me? Can't you even see anything wrong in the OP's post? Can't you even see the contradiction and hypocrisy?? Okay before I start, Issues of law/order and sanctions are questioned with written laws or binding agreements, not emotions If you ask me, this is one of the most senseless posts I've seen in recent times, how did we get here ![]() OP were you one of the people suspended, if yes why coming here to cry foul, why not just tell them the truth: 1. was that program organised only for final year students 2. Didn't the same people attend the same program for at least 4 consecutive years to be qualified to be in final year today 3. Did the event get them by surprsie 4. And see the way everyone called it just a "church" program as if chapel and chapel functions are not part and parcel of CU; if not what's the difference between CU and any other school? Answer me. Didn't the same student take Towards a Total Graduate (TTG)? how many units does it have?, isn't that also a chapel program like this?? Oh because that's the chancellor's course, it means more to you? What the hell are we talking about here? It would even have been reasonable if it were freshers who boycotted the program; we could simply assume that they are not aware! But final year students? Tell me; what were the doing when the program was going on? Studying? "NO", Reading? "NO", conducting practical works in the lab?? "HELL NO". For the period of the program, attention is shifted to chapel where it holds, and as such, electricity or water supply in any other part of the school is not really guaranteed. In the halls every single thing is shut down, and these students are aware of this but they will rather hide inside a locker doing nothing for the period than obey a simple instruction. I won't join you to celebrate flagrant violation of the school rules you have kept for the past 4 to 5 years in any guise. What we should be asking is whether those students were treated with the rules of the university but no, we are to sentimental that we would rather reason with our emotions. Check the handbook of the school, is there no law they have affecting their actions, no we won't ask? It is a religious kind of law?? who cares? Is it not a law? Are they not aware of it? or perhaps it was just made to haunt them Someone said that their folks in other schools are in fields and labs, lol what makes those events mutually exclusive to every other school event?? Other people say federal schools give you your freedom; you had a choice, why did you take the slot of other worthy candidates that applied For your information freedom is not one of the basis by which the performance of universities/systems is improved or adjudged, order is, just that the greater universities are those that can maintains unimaginably nigh level of order with more freedom (people are too used to the system!) but for Nigerian federal schools, we don't need the order, let us just give them the freedom so we would look like those great schools that students are free! What then checks the freedom? How can you define it's limits and boundaries when there is no regard for order?? No wonder an average Unilag student has more freedom than a Harvard student! Yes I mean Harvard. Even harvard have their own residential policies and policies guiding a lot of other things (e.g. http://static.fas.harvard.edu/registrar/ugrad_handbook/current/chapter6/policies_residency.html). Trespass any one and face the sanctions that follow with full weight. Nigerians do anything to keep the rules even in mediocre schools abroad but when it comes to CU, we should respect some students and throw away the basic values on which the institution was founded. My advice to CU; any student violating the school rules "with impunity" like this op should be sanctioned appropriately as stipulated by the handbook. Whoever needs be suspended should be suspended and whichever of them that "merit" expulsion should be expelled without without wasting time - Whether he be the son of a senator or the president of two countries put together; the school's standard is more important that any individual (student or staff!) himee:1. Emotional nonsense everywhere! 2. You do make a decent point but you're now contradicting yourself. Since the school isn't just for the academic programs but also for the spiritual (like this) and physical (TMC sport); what happens when a student boycott any?? Now you say how many "churchy" schools have done this, you must be one of those africans that feel they are right anytime they pull external validation, which is also why you have posted this. This is particularly why people are not doing things right in Nigeria because the right thing can be very unpopular even in very religious places! |
