Whatever happened to our interest in the Scorpion?

We could do with injecting some urgency in future J17 deal, by showing interest in other fighters too, instead of just waiting around like a small, grateful power while Pakistan grandiosely fulfills her 150 J17 orders. One would have thought that, by representing the far more lucrative and prestigious international market for J17, the Nigerian orders would be somewhat of a priority (And we're ordering just 3). Irrespective of however helpful any foreign powers have been to our military, it may not be a bad thing to keep them on their toes. Let's not be taken for granted.

Still, this is just me commenting as an outsider relying on common-sense...
Bros, common sense is enough for us to know that Nigeria can't order 3 Jf17. It was the same budget that said 4 Mi35m helicopters and 3 Tucanos but the order was actually 12 Mi35m and 12 super Tucanos plus more from Brazil.

I think we might get a minimum of 18 fighters. 12 single seat and 6 dual seater.

Although in 2016, NTA reported 20 units. Anyway, let's start getting the fighters first.

I pray we get 24 minimum. It's likely we are getting JF17B first. It showed on the Air force guys yesterday.

The reason i think 18 is because, the F-7s are still relatively new. The last was delivered in 2009 if I'm correct.

The Janes Defence report of 2014 claimed 25 - 40 units. I don't know, although 24 units should be our target.

What do you mean by "it showed on the Air force guys yesterday."

Please clarify.

IMO it's a good thing we didn't get these, seems like a lot of money to spend on aircraft with only one role that can be accomplished by much cheaper turboprop planes.

I was able to meet with the man who works with AVIC. He showed me some pictures and production video but he wouldn't send me any to share.

I talked about the similarities with the FTC 2000 and he assured me that is a different aircraft entirely. I saw some blueprints and with what I noticed, some equipments locations on the aircraft demanded some slight change in design and a very close look at it still shows that the JF17 airframe.

With what I saw, they produced not just one yet but 2 or (probably more than) because I noticed another in a hanger in one ofthe videos. Most of the pictures and video he showed me has the JF17B in its yellow prototype colour.

The Aircraft looks superb and I am impressed.

I wish I could get some pictures but it wasn't just possible. The Chinese seems to be very secretive and protective when it comes to hardware. I have friends here who talk about how Shenyang Aircraft Cooperation doesn't allow phones in some area during project classes.
Getting chinese data is really difficult. When i was in school, getting data for NigComSat-1R for my project was not possible. They told me i have to go to china first then come back with evidence of grant from china.

Nobody is degrading Nigeria. You can only degrade when you actually have proper information. Anybody who comes online to say Nigeria has an Air Force of Trainer and Transport aircrafts, when the Nigerian Air Force has 84 offensive aircrafts needs to have his head checked out by a competent psychiatrist.

You can however say, I know we need 4th gen multi-role fighter jets or air superiority jets or better strike jets. This is absolutely correct, not to make a wild claim that we only have transport and trainer aircrafts.

The best combat footage i have seen from the Nigerian Air Force has to be the footage released back in February. The attack in that footage was carried out by 2 Alpha jets and 1 F-7ni.

The Alpha jets first dropped their bombs, followed by the F-7 drop its bomb. The Alpha jets circled back in, fired its rockets on target. Now it was 30mm cannon time, this time the Alpha jets and F-7 unleashed cannon fire on the remnants of the fleeing terrorists in the VOI. It was so beautiful to watch.

That was the ultimate clap-back from BHT.

The last i heard, they were undergoing UAV pilot training in the UAE.
