'Jason!!!' I yelled for the umpteenth time. The annoying lad simply ignored my call yet again. I sighed and settled on the couch. I felt a hand on my shoulder and I slapped away almost immediately thinking it was Jason. " Take it easy young lady",mummy cooed.
"I'm sorry mum." I quickly replied with a straight face.
"Aren't you gonna say what's on your mind hon?"
"Alright mum,you got me there." I managed to smile for the first time that evening.
"It's just that Jason's quite annoying when it comes to dressing up. I feel like he's the female here while I'm the male. We're worse than late for our prom night. Don't get me wrong here,he's the best twin I could wish for. What really pisses me is his inability to pick a particular outfit once and for all each time we have to go out".
I finally finished the speech with a sigh
Mum pulled me in for a hug and we stayed that way for two minutes.
"Don't let it get on your nerves sugar,I'll talk to him again."
I simply nodded.
"I'm ready sis!"Jason exclaimed.
I glared at him. He opened his mouth to say something but decided against it.
"This'll be the last time,I promise" he said quietly.
He came close to me and pecked me as he finished his statement.
"Mum,we gotta run" I said hugging her.
"Take care kids" she said as she watched us scurry away.



Jason

Jamille and I sat at the back of the bright red Honda Pilot. The driver revved the car and we left our humble abode. I knew my twin was terribly mad at me. It actually wasn't my intention to stay in that long. My button got ripped and I didn't want her laughing me to scorn so I had to fix it myself. I got pricked thrice by the needle before I successfully mended the button. "Mille,I apologised to you earlier. Ain't that enough?"
"I heard you earlier,ain't that enough?" She retorted.
I knew for a fact that engaging her in a word battle wouldn't end well for me. I decided to sing her favourite song "Who am I?" By Casting Crowns.
The trick worked and soon she was singing along with me and holding my hands.
Once we came to the end of the song,I held her hands tenderly and said in the meekest voice "Am I still your favourite twin?".
She smiled and whispered "Yes" before giving me a hug.
The driver's voice announcing that we had gotten to our school made us disentangle.
I got out of the car and opened the other door for her to step out.
I hadn't noticed her dress at home so I took my time to swallow in the details before whispering a quick "you look good sis".
As expected,she smiled. She placed her hand in mine as we walked majestically into the large hall.

So here I am,walking the red carpet of my dream prom night. Jason really did make me let go of my anger towards him. He's not perfect but he's still my best buddy. He was all smiles as we walked down the aisle like a newly wedded couple. Eyes turned as we entered the hall.
I felt a tinge of jealousy because I knew these eyes were for my brother not me. He was the popular one being the greater orator between us. Plus,he was good looking. I knew I didn't have the ideal body I craved. I had to manage a slim body and a face bearing witness of the colonial rule of pimples. The only thing I loved about myself was my height and flat tummy. I was snapped out of my fantasy world when Jason whispered "Smile for me dearie". I gave a shy smile of a teenager as pictures of us were taken.
After exchanging pleasantries,we sat down as the party formally began. Jason did not allow me pay attention to the M.C. He had a disastrous trait of 'yabbing' right in his bones. He kept on remarking on every outfit he saw. I was laughing uncontrollably all the while. I began wondering how he managed to sustain a mere smile despite how hilarious he sounded. Soon,one of his old buddies came to our table. As I expected,they excused themselves to the guys corner.
I got a drink from one of the ever-moving servers. I really didn't mind being alone. I was enjoying the party all by myself when I heard my phone ring. I dug my hand into my purse to retrieve it. I hissed when I saw the caller I.D. It was our gateman who didn't know his place. I hated the guy because he claimed to love me. He was fond of saying nonsense. I can vividly remember when he told me "I want to taught you how to roff". I pondered over what "roff" meant for months before I discovered he meant love.
The only thing that stopped me from making my parents end his job was his daughter. He had an adorable daughter of four years. She was as pure and beautiful as a lily. Each time I thought of her, it would stop me from dealing with her silly father.
Back to the present time,the fool can't stop disturbing my life. I didn't think twice before putting my phone on silent mode to avoid unnecessary disturbance. In about ten minutes, I sighted Jason coming towards me. He pulled me up to the dance floor. On a normal day,I would have protested but I wanted to have fun and we were the first on the dance floor so I cooperated with him.
We danced till my feet ached. As usual, twin brother was able to see that I was tired. We left the floor to eat. After eating, there was a long round of hugs and kisses between the soon-to-be graduates. I had to drag Jason away. Once we entered the car,I slept off on Jason's laps. He woke me up when we got home. The gateman hurriedly opened the gate. He ran to open the car door for us after closing the gate. He was panting seriously and managed to say "Make una go open kitchen door for me abeg".
We stood there watching his drama for like 2 minutes. He shouted at this point "your mama o". On hearing him mention my mother,I took off with the speed of light towards the kitchen door which was at the back. On getting there, I discovered the door was locked. I ran back to the front door and met Jason racing through the living room. I soon caught up with him.

We opened the door to find the lifeless body of my mum. I rushed over to her side. I placed my head on her chest to check if her heart was still beating. Her heart was as silent as light. Her body had turned cold. I looked at her again and saw that her body lay in a position that indicated she was reaching for her inhaler that laid on the floor;few centimetres from her. Immediately,I sensed she had an asthma attack. By this time,the gateman had joined me in the kitchen. We lifted her up and took her outside. Thankfully,the driver was still around and we put her into the car. I turned round to find my sister on my heels with her hands on her mouth. We both entered the car too and the driver sped off to our family hospital. While we were on the way,I called dad who was in Abuja at the time. His line wasn't going through.

We arrived the hospital in less than 15 minutes. Luckily,our family doctor was around. My sister ran in calling for help. Soon,a stretcher was brought and mum was taken into the hospital. Jamille and I waited in the waiting room. Soon,our doctor came out and asked me to follow him. I handed my phone to Jamille instructing her to call dad's I followed the doctor into his office.

I called dad's line again. The phone rang this time and daddy picked it up. Immediately I heard his bass voice over the phone,I broke into tears. "Hello dad,mum....mum is......"was all I could mutter. "Jamille talk to me,mum is what?" Dad said ,his voice laden with fear. That was the last thing I heard before I passed out.




Jason
I knew she was dead even before we brought her here. I simply refused to accept it. Now,the doctor's words have slapped me hard across the face. At first,he refused to tell me. I looked him in the eye and asked "Is she really gone?"
His grim look and silence gave me the answer I wanted. "Her asthmatic attack was the cause of her death. You need to take good care of yourself all the time. You know you're an asthmatic patient too."He said these words to me in his characteristic cool voice. I nodded and got up to leave. My head felt ten times heavier than normal. As I opened the door,I bumped into a nurse who was obviously in a hurry.
She brushed past me without an apology but I couldn't care less.
"Doc,the young lady has just passed out". I wanted to ignore what I heard,then it suddenly occurred to me that I had left my sister in the waiting room.
My knees buckled under me as I leaned on the wall for support.
Doc brushed past me with the nurse. I couldn't follow them,my head was spinning uncontrollably. I gently lowered myself to the ground and stayed there quietly till the doctor came back.
I saw him stroll into the lobby. He soon reached my side and sat beside me.
"Is she gone too?" I asked with a shaky voice.
"No son,she's okay. I think everything that happened was just too much for her so she fainted."
I nodded a response and silence prevailed. The silence that seemed to do me good was soon interrupted by the ringing of the doctor's phone. He got up and moved into his office to pick the call. In a few minutes,he came back to tell me something. I nodded even when I didn't hear a word. That was all I could do to make him go away at that moment.
I mentally chastised myself for not acting like the man mum was training me to be. I got up and asked the doctor what room my sister was in. Immediately he told me,I walked down there. I dragged a seat to her bedside. She had been sedated to calm her down. Sleep was far away from me.
Doc came to check on her one more time and he met me awake.
"Son,it's a quarter past three. You..."
"I don't feel like Doc" I cut him off.
"Alright then" he said and walked out. I thought I had gotten rid of him but he appeared again with a drink in hand. He handed it over to me and I drank every drop,suddenly realising I was thirsty.
I thanked him and he left. I stayed awake all night,watching my sister and thinking about my mum.
Jamille woke up at about 11 am the next day. I was elated to see her eyes flutter open.
