When pikin excel, na Hin papa own. One wey no excel, nobody dey claim am. If to say na underground station Hin go blow now, Nigeria and UK will disown him like fake 1000 naira note.

Nigeria disowned him as he once asked to represent Nigeria at tournaments. The United Kingdom takes full glory for this wonderful champ as Nigeria did not invest in him. For those against this mindset, would you allow an absent father take glory for your achievements in life? Nigeria was absent in this young man's life.

Let's calm down with all these Nigeria disowned him comments...... the truth is yes he is British born and yes Britain as a country has contributed to his success far more than Nigeria has.... but he has at least 75℅ Nigerian blood running in him and more importantly he is 100% proud of that fact.

Like a true African child, he always praises his family for all the support they gave him and even points to the fact that the tough love and a short stint in boarding school in Nigeria really shaped him.

So being Nigerian is a very important part of him (look at his arm) and his display of rare humility in his trade, a trait so culturally admired and treasured by we his kinsmen, can only make us identify with him more.

Finishing it off with an oyinbo saying "If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck.......it must be a duck!"

Nigerian Born British Boxer, Anthony Joshua just defeated Vladimir Klitschko to win the WBA title.

Nigerian celebs have trooped in to support someone who was supposed to be their own, as revealed this week that he was turned down by a Nigerian coach

Congrats Anthony
If it were to be drug or bad case, he will only be referred to as a Nigerian. British will be out of it...
Failure is truly an orphan.. .

None of our celebrities did this when Samuel Peter was defeated by this same beast (Wladimir Klitschko) Anthony Joshua beat.
We thank God another Nigerian removed the shame.

A good nation brings out the best from his citizens. Anthony Joshua is a British born and not 'Nigerian born' as claimed by the OP. Born in Watford by Scottish father. He is a member of the British Empire, MBE, flying the Union Jack Flag. Would die and be buried honorably in the UK. Any sublimal, subtle claim of this man is laughable

His, is a story of grass to grace. Anthony Joshua, nine years ago was a BRICKLAYER ecking out a living from London's construction sites. No one remembered him then.

Simply done well for himself, his family, his British trainers and the UK government.

his dad was half Irish half Nigerian.. presumably he was a Nigerian born, reason why he was here in Nigeria and schooled for 2years... he still remembered his roots... check this out..the tattoo carries Nigeria in n African map..

He doesn't deny his Nigerian heritage, his father is Irish-Nigerian, his mother a Nigerian. He once lived in Nigeria and still have families in Nigeria what else do you need. Why shouldn't Nigerians be proud of him?
He himself is proud of Nigeria enough to get a map of Nigeria tattoo on his body.
