After 170,000 miles be ready to change either or both the engine and transmission depending on the condition of the chassis

mileage is certainly a misnomer. there are many factors affecting the performance of an engine beyond mileage. 100 miles of start-stop (city) traffic has more wear and tear effects on an engine than 500miles of highway driving at steady speed.

the service records, quality of replacement parts and driving habits are more important considerations than number of miles on the odometer. my present car is a 2012 BMW X3 which I bought in 2015 @ 146,000miles. on average, that is like 41,000miles of driving every year. such high mileage over a 4 year period is most certainly due to highway driving.

I have no issues whatsoever with the car and my friends are always surprised when they see the odometer.

bottom line, due diligence and experience is important when considering to buy any car whether 500 miles or 500,000miles.

I want to disagree with this.
Both mileage and maintenance are important. A high mileage vehicle will still be going strong with competent maintenance, and a poorly maintained vehicle will show signs of failing at relatively low mileage.
Personally, I won't advise you to buy a car over 60,000km if you can avoid it. The tendency here in Nigeria is to buy cars with 100,000 km. That is an oooold car. Chassis, transmission , engine, seats, doors and even the electronics would have started to degrade.
The newer the better.

I bought my Toyota Camry at 98,000 mileage about 2years ago and it's still working perfectly..

My car has 222242 mileage when i bought it in January.

Mileage is also very important, no matter the maintenance level, you can't compare a car 50k with 200k mileage, never!

Ofcourse! if you drive hydundia accent from lagos to abuja 3-4 times,the car don finish.

I bought a Corolla with 220000 Mileage,2 years later it's still firing on with the most minimal of issues..

I bought my Honda 1990 with 132000km. the only thing I change is the tire and maintenance. I do use it to travel a lot and no problem at all. and I do check the shaft too. so no problem. I travel from ibadan to awka, to abuja then back to ibadan, no problem at all with my factory ac.

I totally disagree with your point. Do you really mean to type 60k km? How many of the Nigerian cars have less than 150k km real mileage...that's even in Kilometres I am talking about and not miles. A 60k km vehicle is as good as a nearly new vehicle which always attract more purchasing price which 30% of Nigerians cannot afford to pay for. To me, it's not about mileage but maintenance. Maintenance is key! I bought my Opel with a Mileage a little over 200k km and from the history of the car I am the 3rd owner, I drove the car for another over 50k km mileage and I had no issue at all with the car till it sold it to another user.

if u service ur engine evri 5000km or every 3 months. change worn out parts evri now and den without waiting for d car to stop driving bf u do
