Funny people on this thread. Who told you that CU graduates are children of the rich? A lot of parents borrowed money to send their children to that school. Some of them don't have the connections you think they have. Learn to argue with facts. A lot of people just hate the school so they belittle any achievement of the school.

Having worked as a Human resource person for few years in a manufacturing company, UNN should top that list. They are academically ahead and are always bold during interviews. It takes them a few months to become authority in the company. The only disadvantage they have, they easily get another job and resign unexpectedly. My boss don't joke with them. Second is ABU Zaria. You need to be in the interview room to hear how all eyes will be on them when asked... "We have seen all in your CV, can you tell us about yourself" There is this glory by just pronouncing University of Nigeria, Nsukka and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. I'm not a graduate of both. But would love to add both names to my CV.

Lol we better pray for better universities in our "Potopoto republic" instead of screaming "Afonja" Upandan like deranged ugandan lunatics, even as they zoom off and leave our folks in the dusts of education.

Very soon we will still blame them for our low sperm count.

I don talk my own sha.
The childishness in this post lacks wisdom.

I did not graduate from any of the unis stated in that report but guess what, i have employed some graduates from some of those institutions, plus a number of my guys from my uni are holding down executive management positions in A rated institutions.

These silly posts will soon compell me to even stop recruiting some of these graduates. I recently employed a graduate from one of those mentioned unis and i am presently going through the basics of the profession with her. She even had to confess that she won't recommend her uni to anyone based on the course she studied.

People deceiving people. Keep at it.

The connection I mean is in terms of asking for their resumes. After screening and all that, they pick those who scale through but why not give such opportunity to other school graduates.

As for oil sector, the CU graduates work in their administrative/finance dept but engineering dept often comes from UI, UNILAG, Unaab, uniport, Uniben, OAU, Nsukka graduates.

What you are calling connection is simply information and safarigirl is just hating. Now the truth is this: no company will employ an incompetent folk to the detriment of the company, even if his father owns the company. But when an individual from a particular university stands a better chance of getting employed simply because of information that can simply be because he is more current (Now look at the trend, individuals from Lagos and related regions are getting more employed. Apart from the fact that there are panoply of companies in this region, there is more access to information). Also if companies prefer to access only individuals from selected universities out of a big number of similarly informed others, that has to do with "reputation". Similar treatment is accorded to individuals that schooled in good reputable schools "abroad"; even though they may not necessarily be better. Which is why ivy league varsities always have a better employability as compared to their counterparts all over the world; even to a good number of ivy league institutions are fast dropping in substantial areas of academic ratings.

Did I hear you say it's not fair? Well, may be it is.... "for the company". Much amount of money is always spent in recruiting for vacant positions and going by such assumptions help the company reduce the cost of doing so by screening out unworthy candidates. What if there are worthy and better candidates among them? Again, this goes by probability, there is a greater probability that there will be "more" worthy candidates from the more reputable institutions than the less reputable ones, or even the ones who don't give a dams about their reputation and in like manner, the probability of getting unwanted candidates from a less reputed varsity is higher than from a well reputed one.

They should have also included Lagos business school to prove what I'm talking about. Another example; ABUAD at the moment is much ahead of Babcock in Research, and academic indices but Babcock is there and ABUAD is not (majority of people reading this now may even be asking what is "abuad"wink. Why? Reputation!

Please someone should clear this confusion for me.

If Unilag has 1 million graduates and 500 thousand of the students are employed

Covenant has 100 thousand students and 70 thousand are employed

Would it be fair to say Covenant University has a higher employment rate without taking into account the average number of graduates per institution?

Even though the sample size may be different, employment rate calculation is done with a stand-alone approach rather than comparative.

Basically means for every 10 Unilag graduates, 5 are employed while for every 10 Covenant graduates, 7 are employed.

Do you know what they call MBTI?

That is what determines the personality types of bold people during interviews, not a factor of the school they attended. HR persons sometimes even need to be taught that people's make up is not a function of their uni. Biological and social interactions play huge roles.

If am a graduate and am not employed because of what I can offer rather because of my attained institution, then criteria for being employed in Nigeria is biased. Meanwhile unemployed graduates who are entrepreneurs are far much better than those who work in offices who wait till month end, before salaries are paid

Anyway, better an employer of labor than an employee. You spend your life working for someone else and never achieving your goals

Have you worked with any CU graduate? I have not but I have worked with 2 that came to do IT in my office. The difference is clear! I don't doubt this

Guy, are you minding that post?

Malabites are holding down key job positions in virtually most highly rated institutions.

I can reel out at least 10 banks where malabites are heads of departments at executive positions.

I can give you at least 3 in upstream O&G institutions and a whole lot of others.

I have no qualms with claiming best universities while the lowly rated ones are displaying skills, getting the jobs and employing the highly rated uni graduates.

Just do your bit and be good at it.

Question I will ask you is best in what ? Harvard business school has one of the best MBA programs in the world same with London business school. Our own Lagos business school has one of the best MBA programs in Nigeria with their recent aacsb and amba accreditationsthat no other business school in Nigeria has. Every top business school in the world has at least aacsb, amba or equius accreditation. Universities need to have a niche field of excellence then build their reputation and branding from there. Not every course offered by Harvard is the best. So when you say good universities in Nigeria are in south west , I ask good in what ? There are brilliant and employable students in every university and better believe that if your parents can afford to pay Babcock and covenant school fees, they will do everything in their power to get you a job after graduation or sponsor you overseas for a masters degree. That masters degree may be the one that actually influences employability and not the first degree. I went to Babcock so I'm not hating.

I went to CU, and besides being a Nigerian, I'm an Igbo, so I'm not hating. What led to this is people that always come here and spew the afonja thrash for every university news they see online simply because most southeastern universities have not been making the news for good reasons since recent times.

When you say best in what, you have to know that we ain't making a comparison in Harvard? We are simply talking about Nigerian universities and how they can improve upon their performance. Besides there are Nigerian universities that a preferred in particular areas of discipline but before you assess a varsitie's strength, it first have to be a standard university. Unfortunately, we both know that majority of the universities in southeast substandard.

I know hence the reason I stated earlier that they ask for their resumes when there is job opening and use their recruitment to screen in those who are fit to work with them.

Then what we're talking about is reputation.

If you were in the position of urgently employing one out of two graduates with good grades standing before you (that you don't know from Adam), one from Harvard and the other from Manitoba, tell me, who will you choose if you were to just select by chance do to lack of time and resource to conduct any test?
