Unilever is yet to recover from what happened under Rufus Giwa.

Cadbury is yet to recover from what happened under Bunmi Oni.

UAC was the biggest Nigerian company before the indigenisation policy in the early 70s, but now Nigerian managers have made the company a shadow of her self.

The combined profit of all the companies in UAC group is not up to that of just Dangote Sugar Refinery plc.

The last Nigerian to manage Nigerian Breweries was Mr Festus Odimegwu. He was forced to resigned because of the uproar his support for Obasanjo's third term bid caused.

He took the matter seriously to the extent that he was campaigning for it. During the annual general meeting, the shareholders had to voice their displeasure at his behaviour.

Before a Nigerian will head NB Plc, it will take time, or maybe not.

The last time that post was given to a Nigerian he tried to drag the company into partisan politics during the "Obasanjo Third term agenda" for his own selfish gains undecided
Exactly.

The parent company wouldn't want to risk such again.

We are not even talking about the very influential NB Board Chairmanship and both officio and ex-officio executive Board positions perpetually given to Nigerians

They are the largest single shareholders and they're the ones with the technical expertise.

Besides, their primary function is to make money.

I don't think we should attack them but rather question Nigerians who refuse to put their money/intelligence to good use to build viable competition.
Rather we are selling our companies like Sona Brewery, Life Brewery and Consolidated Brewery to foreign owned Nigeria Brewery

Really? Are you assuming or this is based on your research? Anyway. Nigeria breweries don't make one third of bank annual profit. See example of their first quarter return:

Heineken have been in operation longer and have a global presence, therefore greater access to capital and deeper pockets.

It would take some form of legislation as well as fiscal reform before the smaller indigenous breweries would be able to really compete.

It's not entirely their fault that they are having to sell. Smaller companies are usually absorbed by the big fish, that's how the big fish stay big and eliminate the competition.

You didn't know that 'Nigerian' Breweries is 37% owned by Heineken? The Nigerians involved just collect their dividends.
heineken owns 54% controlling shares in Nigerian Breweries & 53% in Consolidated Breweries (which actually makes them subsidiaries of Heineken), they just left it as nigerian breweries for the sake of brand equity. That is why the MDs have always been Dutch since after Festus Odimegwu.

The small Breweries should have merged or opted for payment in form of shares in NB, but they preferred cash payment.

You got Unilever got mixed up with UAC.

Unilever was formerly known as Lever Brothers.

Their popular brands include(d):

Omo
Pepsodent
Close-up
Dove
Lifebuoy
Sure
Surf
Vim
Vaseline
Lux
Sunlight
Annapurna
Lipton tea
Planta margarine
Blue Band Magarine
Royco
Knorr

UAC is the colonial company you referred to.

It was formerly United Africa Company hence the name UAC.

UAC is actually related to Unilever in that it took over some of the businesses of Unilever. Check Wikipedia for United Africa Company.

UAC brands include

Gala
Supreme Ice Cream
Mr. Biggs'
Gossy spring water
Grand soya oil
Dulux paints

I didn't really mix them up and here's why:

UCA Nigeria were a company owned by United Africa company whigh later became a subsidiary of Unilever, and was founded in 1931.

In 1943 it became known as United Africa company Ltd and remained dormant until 1955. At this point it started acquiring, over a period of five years, a large part of the business of UAC International.

In 1960 C.W.A. Holdings Ltd, England also a subsidiary of Unilever, acquired the interest of UAC International in the company.

Further reorganisation concluded in 1973 and resulted in the acquisition of a number of wholly owned fellow subsidiaries of C.W.A. Holdings.

Following reorganisation, the company conducted the acquired businesses as operating divisions, which are now in voluntary liquidation.

The company took the name UAC of Nigeria Ltd in 1973.

In compliance with the Nigerian Enterprises Promotion Act 1972, 40 percent of the company's share capital was acquired in 1974 by Nigerian citizens and associations and in accordance with the provisions of the Nigerian Enterprises Promotion Act 1977, an additional 20 percent of the UAC's share capital was publicly offered in 1977, increasing Nigerian equity participation to 60 percent.

The name UACN Plc was adopted in 1991
