Former National Security adviser (NSA) Col. Sambo Dasuki has for the second time, rejected the shielding of witnesses in his ongoing #armsgate trial.

Dasuki objected to an application by the Federal Government to shield the identities of witnesses in his trial yesterday. Defence counsel, Ahmed Raji (SAN) told the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss the application for witness protection, insisting that the application had been ruled upon by the court in 2016. He added that the development will constitute an abuse of court process.

Raji claimed that the prosecuting counsel's statements that the safety of the witnesses, who were on covert operations within and outside Nigeria, could be compromised if their identities were not protected, is “speculative” and “cheap blackmail.”

The prosecution counsel, Dipo Okpeseyi (SAN), earlier on, asked the court to grant the shielding of witnesses for security reasons as the witnesses are at risk due to the position of the defendant as former ADC to a Head of State, former NSA, and a crown prince of Sokoto state.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed adjourned the case to June 15 for a ruling

seriously...whyelse would they always oppose shielding the identity of witnesses if they dont have anything to fear?why not spend energy in building your defense rather than putting it on the mere identity of a witness, how is the identity of value to the facts?
