The above suggestion will be difficult to implement in a country where 90% of windows OS are pirated. For admins in medium size organisations, segment your mail servers away from regular terminals. Configure your firewalls, IDS and IPS to implement stringent inbound policies. Servers with outdated Active Directory services are most likely to be used as malware propagating vectors. Most ransommwares do not exactly encrypt your file systems. Only essential windows files are tapered with. A simple editing of your registry files in safe mode can reverse this. (Not advisable if you are unfamiliar with this) Never pay hackers because you might just be indirectly funding global terrorism. Always remember to backup your files. Happy Sunday |

Chiefpriest1:It's bad to cram theories you don't have any clue how it works. I say it's time you and your so called attackers self destruct up to 99 countries as well. You will be the at all at all na winsh to tell the story. What do you say? |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by Nobody: 12:36pm On May 14, 2017 |
Hiccups:I have been talking with a Chinese hacker for the past two years, I haven't been able to strike any deal with him since because he doesn't trust me or anything Nigerian. They laugh at us for hacking ourselves. The man know man syndrome. When yahoo yahoo started, victims were randomly selected, soon they turned it into a cult and eliminated all non cultists. The same primitive voodoo philosophy. It's a pity |

The attack has been halted about 2 days ago when a security blogger discovered the kill switch by registering the domain that the ransomeware was always trying to contact. |

alignacademy:Hehehehehe. This one proactive? ![]() Attack that happened since Friday. Trust me, if those attackers were targeting companies in Naija, even NITDA that's "giving" advise will probably be affected. Cos I'm pretty sure some of their systems may still run on outdated OS. And like someone said, this advise was copied. ![]() And someone also said, at all at all, na im bad pass. So dem try. ![]() It's well with our IT industry! |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by VickyRotex(f): 1:20pm On May 14, 2017 |
elfico:Yea, by MalwareTech. "Accidental Hero" He's indeed a life saver. But he warned that the attack may still continue though. This is indeed the biggest of its kind! |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by Hiccups: 1:23pm On May 14, 2017 |
akpasubi777:I really feel for Nigeria, until the get things right I am afraid Nigeria don't stand the chance to contain 25% of Cyber attacks, NCC and NITDA has so many people across all levels that has no business there. However, you don't need a Chinese hacker as there are highly sophisticated Nigerian Hackers. |

Promoting security awareness is the key. Money don land for security consultants around the world. |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by Nobody: 1:47pm On May 14, 2017 |
Hiccups:You mean our refined hackers having a mix of foreign + primitive voodooism in one. That's an atomic bomb sort of magical jiggery-pokery in itself. Abracadabra! I'm not buying it. |

softtouch2:lol |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by Hiccups: 1:59pm On May 14, 2017 |
akpasubi777:Well if you say so no problem, but belief and opinions don't change facts |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by Nobody: 2:07pm On May 14, 2017 |
Hiccups:Because I'm not there when you're begging chinko or arabu for updates doesn't change the fact that they know better. That's the real fact. Arming our voodoo army with such weapon is dangerous for us as a nation at this stage. |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by elfico(m): 2:10pm On May 14, 2017 |
VickyRotex:Quite true. Attacks never stop. That's why OS patches don't stop either. Linux users would be having a big laugh right now. |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by Nobody: 2:13pm On May 14, 2017 |
elfico:The attack must be abolished. It will not end well for everybody believe me. |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by Hiccups: 2:22pm On May 14, 2017 |
akpasubi777:You may have a point, but I know quite a few in Nigeria who are doing well and have no reason to do the negative. Honestly, I understand your fears but its not always true |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by Nobody: 2:37pm On May 14, 2017 |
Hiccups:Me myself can hack if I want to but I don't do it so as not to join the amount of folks over crowding the profession by the year. I could have been one of the best if I had focused on it. I am not afraid for my sake, I'm a bigger picture kind of person. They are not so special and they should be exposed asap just like the others. I atis supposed to be all about security first and then pocket money secondary. But no here it's straightforward voodoo and occultism. That's my fear. |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by VickyRotex(f): 2:41pm On May 14, 2017 |
elfico:You're right. They are just cowards risking people's life for their own selfish gain. lol. Yea right! I'm Hybrid. But aint happy about this. Especially seeing how health sectors were affected. Super-upsetting! |

Bad guys. ![]() |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by Hiccups: 3:28pm On May 14, 2017 |
akpasubi777:I get you, but Hacking could be done for several other positive reasons, No sound security professional without this skills. IT security business is not suitable for so called Nigeria union thing, so fear not |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by Nobody: 3:54pm On May 14, 2017 |
Hiccups:The main problem with your system of hacking is just the primitive and voodoo. For instance I believe in unity but my entire system is either outdated, infected or obsolete but you that do not believe in it will remain up-to-date and running. What sort of primitive jiggery-pokery is that? |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by Hiccups: 4:16pm On May 14, 2017 |
akpasubi777:You don't need much to hack, again it depends on what your target is |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by Nobody: 4:28pm On May 14, 2017*. Modified: 8:07pm On May 14, 2017 |
Hiccups:Self or Hired Target can be grouped into 3 = Security, Financial gain and Damage. Which one is your concern? |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by Hiccups: 4:48pm On May 14, 2017 |
akpasubi777:Well you've not given me an answer, thought you keen on gaining knowledge but you asking my field, all the same goodluck |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by Nobody: 4:58pm On May 14, 2017 |
Hiccups:Your criminal tendencies are very high from my observation. Happy hunting but you and your amateur gang should try as much as possible to avoid us if you can't pay simple homage. One Nigeria. Cheers |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by Hiccups: 5:35pm On May 14, 2017 |
akpasubi777:You don't know or have any idea who I am neither do myself about you, just few lines of quotes on Nairaland is enough to conclude I have criminal tendencies, I pray God help you |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by Nobody: 5:48pm On May 14, 2017 |
Hiccups:I know because it's my job to know. But I am not condemning you. I said it because I have mouth just like your sarcastic prayer up there. It alright. Calm down |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by elfico(m): 5:50pm On May 14, 2017 |
akpasubi777:Except of course for the hackers who are gonna pocket a massive pay check |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by elfico(m): 5:57pm On May 14, 2017 |
VickyRotex:Its really upsetting, however, some blame lay with them. many of the systems affected are still using Windows XP whose life cycle ended long ago. Moreover, the tools used to craft the attacks are suspected to be from the NSA hacking tools leaked sometime ago and Microsoft has released patches for their OS (at least the ones that are still being supported.) The fact that more attacks are imminent should be a wake up call to people to take system security serious. And I am hybrid too by the way. lolz |
| Re: Nigerian Govt Issues Advisory On Massive Global Cyberattack by Nobody: 5:59pm On May 14, 2017 |
elfico:That's their cup of tea how much they pocket. I'm no stranger to being on the spotlight and in fact now a days I like to open my doors and windows for their cameras and satellite to see my yansh. But then I don't like cheating. If I'm not special then nobody is. The attackers should be exposed. |

The malware exploits age long vulnerabilities is windows proprietary SMB (Server Message Block) protocol running on port 445. Here are lab screenshots of the malware randomnly attempting to connect to random IP addresses. Alleged photos of the 22 year old malware analyst who was able to isolate the virus and trigger what is now known as "Kill Switch". Follow the dude on his twitter handle@Malware Tech Naija Youths, where art thou..
