A fresh row may be in the offing between the Executive and the Legislative arms of government over the 2017 budget.

This is because the Presidency appears not to be in a hurry to assent to the 2017 appropriation bill, which the National Assembly passed late last week, Vanguard learnt from a top federal official last night.

One of the top officials of the federal government expressed fear that the budget had been ‘altered’ in many ways by the lawmakers after spending more than five months deliberating on the document.
More details soon

Has it been PADDED again? undecided

What is surprising to me is the hue and cry that Nigeria is broke yet the budget keeps rising year by year.

Looters have no pity on Nigeria. Hmmm.

This will be d first true test of Osinbajo's mettle:whether he will allow those crooks to get away with d massive padding they as usual av done to d budget,or say no once and for all;or whether he wud say as one man now in a medical facility in London said:"those that padded d budget will not go unpunished",only to only get them transferred while d padded budget was passed 'as padded'!

sincerely, these guys do not have pity for the masses! at this time what we should be talking about is budget implementation not passage. Imagine, NASS BUDGET is more than the budget of 3 ministries combine(solid minerals, health and education)! they still have the gut to delay it passage then increase their own budget by over 10billion naira. Revolution Is Around The Corner

Why would he approve budget without scrutinizing it. They took 5 months to make it. He can take few days to look it over.

What is worth doing is worth doing well. Osinbajo should never give into these crooks' treachery.

They would try to blackmail him into accenting to the document as passed by the NASS, telling Nigerians the presidency is what keeling the economy from gaining traction by not speedily signing the document, but in actual fact, what was sent to the NASS initially bears no semblance to what is being returned by it.

Osinbajo should peruse the document alphabet by alphabet and figure by figure. If it means taking the whole year to ensure those thieves don't go smiling to the banks tomorrow, so be it. We've had enough of their nonsense. angry

You said part of my mind but it's not that simple this time. The presidency has the most campaign promises to fulfill to Nigerians. A lot of road, rail, power and even empowerment projects are ongoing. Many Nigerians don't know or care about budget passage and signage, they just want to see their lives continuously improved. This is my advice to PYO. He should sign the budget as it is, so releases can be quickly made to continue/complete projects. Any padded MDAs funds not in tune with their development plan shouldn't get money released. The only beneficiary of this would unfortunately be the NASS who added a whopping N10b to their budget and whose funds are Statutory.
Next budget cycle, impress it upon the money-loving Speaker and Senate president not to add to their budgets.
This way everyone wins.

From what i gathered it's rather the presidency that is confused on the funding.
I mean why prepare a budget if u don't know where funding is coming from or base over 40% of that on borrowing?

My brother. I expected the NASS to cut their budget this year, but alas, it has rather been increased. Chei!

Why would you expect it to be reduced? Those criminals can't accommodate even the slightest inconveniencies. Austerity doesn't exist in their lexicon. If the economy contracts by 100% they must also upgrade their allocation by 100% to neutralize the effects of the contraction.

They aren't meant to feel the pinch, not by a long shot.

That is the Nigerian National Assembly for you.

The last paragraph of your comment is very important. Actually, there supposed to be working synergy between all the 3 arms of govt. But we are lacking that.
