As a south easterner I have come to notice that our people are more strict with the Nigerian artificial partitioning of the country into States as to compare with other zones of the country;surprisingly south-south nowadays even tend to group themselves together as 'Niger Delta'

of course already Yoruba's and Hausas don't know what is state boundary at least from my stay in the north and south west.

my main question is what do Easterners hope to achieve by strictly partitioning themselves in the Nigerian created state?

NB :Don't comment out of ignorance if you haven't lived or familiar with South East

Every common. Even in each Igbo state, they pay attention on the place u are from. Igbos are their own problem. You hear them insulting ebonyians or ngwa people, calling them timid and local as if they are better. As for me, every Igbo is my brother even if u are from mbaise. At the emboldened is particularly true...imagine my female friend from mbaitolu was refused a suitor from mbaise by her parents simply BC the suitor is from mbaise both of same state oo

I agree with this post. Its easy to observe in Lagos that Yoruba identify themselves more by their common Yoruba language and tribe than by state. Most Yoruba in Lagos hardly refer to their home states anymore. But I think this is a positive thing because state boundaries never existed pre-colonial times. People migrated freely and became indigenes of where ever they found peace and business opportunity. It is for this reason that the Aro people are found all over Igbo land. My own maternal great grand father migrated from a neighboring village to Akwa. His descendants decided to make Awka their home. I think the state creation tend to do more harm to unity.
