What if breeze mistakenly blows this dude into nairaland's politics section? and he sees the hateful comments we throw at each other? How we tribally stereotype each other and look for every opportunity to spew hatred? Do you guys realize nairaland is the biggest? nigerian forum? Are we representing ourselves well? What would the world think when they come across the comments on this forum? Shaming ourselves all because of "likes"?

This situation is a perfect example of "you think you are doing me? You are doing yourself" Left for me, I think seun should copy reddit and quora on the upvote thingy, that way, stupid and tribalistic comments would get so many downvotes, it would deter tribalists from even commenting.

One thing we should all bear in mind is that the internet never forgets.
My brother i blame seun the owner of nairaland for allowing these secondary school kids to hijack nairaland. They will enter nairaland and shout afonja..flantino from morning till night cos they dont have any intellectual contribution to make

Sometime ago, while driving around Chicago Heights, I came across this "okirika shop". It reminded me of the days I used to go to Oil Mill and Mile 1 park (Port Harcourt people go understand) to shop for clothes. This shop is just the yankee version of benddown select. grin
While coming over to the USA, I dashed my cousins most of my stuff (including my brogues shoe). I was so happy to see some brogues shoes and vintage shirts in this shop though. This one na first grade Okirika, new bale! grin

This place is owned by a liberian. He was recommended to me by my younger brother's coursemate from school. I recently got into a minor accident and since then, the car has been making some noises. They said it would cost $200 (parts and labor) which for me is a good deal considering the fact that other white-owned shops charge close to $80/hr just for their time. undecided

So, let's wait and see smiley

Do you live in or close to South-side Chicago? How is the crime situation in your side of Chicago?

From the stuff I hear over the radio and conversations at work, gun violence is pretty much out here. They call chicago "chiraq" and while driving around, you'd see where they lay wreaths (at junctions or so) to signify where someome was shot.

I pray never to witness any violence though, abeg, no be wetin carry me come yankee.

Na true you talk

Mechanics (full time) here do not make less than $45k in a year. Of course, there are some that earn way more than that.

I've read it countless times online how mechanics in the US make alot of money and I keep wondering why 60 person of Naija mechanics are earning a little income. At times I used to think maybe those guys over there are magicians, well ... like I've once said on this thread that car users in Nigeria don't mind using expensive car, buy costly spare parts but pay just a little for the service rendered by the mechanic to fix their car's problems... on the other hand I won't blame the car users.. I blame the mechanics e.g my master that has refused to package his workshop despite the fact that he owns the plot land he's using.. em no get package at all.. we're still using whining jack.. hydraulic jacks.. we work on sand .. we look so dirty self. but that one no mean say we no sabi work oo.

For example there was this day one Military officer in a nearby Cantonment came to our workshop in a convoy, I believe someone prolly his colleagues recommended my master to him but he was disappointed when he got to our workshop cos it didn't look like the way he expected it to be.. he told his men to make a U-turn and take him out of that vicinity.. lol.

As OGA come wey we tell am wetin happen.. he said.. "leave the foolish man alone!!! na motor em con do abi na Workshop em con look!!!".. lol.. I no fit laugh.

in fact.. d tin taya me.

lol that's it you can't eat your cake and have it. nothing goes for nothing you could have the skills and all but when your business is not presentable, your skills would suffer. back home some people just want to make money whereas they can make more money it all depends on the way you present your self to the public.

They do earn a lot...but consider this.... they have to go to school...be certified. Like a graduate... they have their rate of pay. The shops are not if you want them to be presentable.... they have to meet a lot of requirements before being registered... and a lot has to do with safety and environmental protection....think they can pour waste oil in the drains?...or throw dead batteries in the garbage?! That's why almost all shops have about the same basic appearance. If you had a steering problem, mechanic fixed it, car got into an accident, insurance found out cause of accident was steering failure because the mechanic failed to tighten bolts... guess who will be sued? Lots of money...lots of responsibility.
