Approved PIB Bill Is A Fraud On People Of Niger Delta – Sunny Onuesoke Onuesoke by StateNews(op): 1:09pm On May 27, 2017
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chieftain, Chief Sunny Onuesoke has described the Petroleum Industrial Bill (PIB) recently approved by the Senate as fraud on the people of Niger Delta Region.

Onuesoke who made the observation while speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, Rivers State after a seminar he attended on climate change said he had gone through the approved PIB Bill and discovered that the section of the bill which allocated ten percent development fund to host communities where oil companies operate was removed from the approved bill.

Onuesoke recalled that in the draft PIB Bill, ten percent was allocated to communities were the oil companies are allocated, adding that the recommendation was removed from the approved Bill.

He argued that the removal of the community fund clause which was the main solution to Niger Delta problems is way of impoverishing the already disparaging people of the Niger Delta region.

“The removal of community fund which was the main solution to the Niger Delta problems is way of impoverishing the already disparaged people of the Niger Delta Region. Just like the infamous Onshore/ Offshore dichotomy, the Senate removal of the community fund is like passing a bitter pill down the throat of the Niger Deltans.
“This is the ulcer that has eaten deep into our collective fabrics.chief JAMES ibori, Obong Victor Attah together with other patriotic indigenes of the region fought the onshore/ offshore saga to bring succour to the region. But government of the day has deleted the betterment that would have accrued to each of the Host communities that are directly suffering the hazards of oil exploration. The effects on their arable land and aquatic life would have had recompense,” Onuesoke argued.

Onuesoke who said these was while he keep preaching unity among the niger delta tribes instead of them championing ownership of land and tribalism among themselves within the region. They should embrace one another than cutting selfish niche for themselves.

He appealed to members of the Red Chamber to consider the implementation of the ten percent fund for host communities as enshrined in the PIB draft copy so as to act as succor for host communities in the Niger Delta Region.

“The Senate should be considerate in their action. For fruitful bussines
to take place in the region the host communities should be given adequate attention,” he stated.

Abeg park well, wat was achieved with the the humongous amount collected so far ...If passed without or with it won't still make any difference. Take a look at Bayelsa state that is oil producing with revenues running into billions of naira every month(...)sorry is still the case as usual with civil servants still being owed their entitlements...

well I won't blame them (the parasites of Nigeria), this is what a useless president GEJ brought to his people, for six years a useful president would have lobbied the Senate headed by a loyal David mark and Co. to pass the PIB bill undiluted. even if it required some level of political harassment..
the useless man forgot it and rather focused on building amajiri schools in the north with money made from oil producing communities. he saw himself as a rightful indigene of Abuja (Aso Rock),
today, as a Rivers citizen how would I possibly blame the Buhari led Senate for passing this injustice called Billhuh??

GEJ really messed up. Selfishness will never get us anywhere. GEJ and his cronies thought they were going to be in n power forever that's why they did not pass it, this is also what happened with the the confab report. Wasting time to do the right thing because they are comfortable. Its a Shame.

Another question again or is if what this guy has observed is true, because I heard the bill has been split into 3 and this is for governance (what it means i dont really know) what exactly are the senators from the SS region doing? Are they blind or dumb or both?

The 10% is a proposal and subject to approval by the Senate. It may have been defeated by what appears as the overcompensation of the Niger Delta with a whole ministry, the NDDC, 13% derivation funds yet with nothing to show for it despite the region's low population and the outright irresponsible stealing of intervention funds by thieving political leaders from the region who the people unashamedly celebrate as 'our son/daughter' support those who believe throwing more money into Niger Delta to compensate Niger Delta will never work because the people worship those who steal their collective wealth
