i know sir but the area is dry not disturbed by water at all so was looking to know if it has any effect if it is reduced to say approximately 4inches.

since it's a 2 bedroom flat, I presume it'll be a bungalow so casting the floor slab is not really that necessary except it's a storey building... but nevertheless you'll still have to waterproof the slab to prevent moisture from the ground from getting into the building

In my opinion...the slab only does one job...damp proofing, I pressume that's why it's called the damp proof course.

It adds to the dead load on the house but does nothing directly to improve the strength of the building.

From my little research, the are many types of materials used in the dpc, we have only adopted the concrete slab here as the method used in most cases.

The dpc majorly prevents upward movement of damp or moisture and seals the inside of the house from ants and some nasty rodents. A three or four inch thick of concrete slab should suffice.

yes sir, four inches can serve for your oversite concrete because
* your soil as you said is stable
*its a bungalow therefore no risk of excessive load
*100mm or 4inch is also applicable in slab design and can serve.
My opinion is to go for 150mm thickness since the difference in material to 100mm is pocket friendly. But note that 100mm is not bad at all

please do not miss inform the public if you are not sure of what you saying, Concrete slab and not DPC is a structural member of the foundation, it bears the load to be transmitted to the foundation thus requires rigidity, DPC Damp proof Course is just a thin membrane of polymer laid beneath the courses of the wall to prevent moisture from percolating through the wall leading to dampness, unlike DPM damp proof membrane which is a thin membrane of polymer laid over thr entire area of the foundation before casting the oversite concrete. oversite concrete in some cases are not even sufficient to prevent ground water from percolating.

There's a reason why it's a standard. Compromising that may save you cost now... But would definitely have adverse effects later. Consider the current change in climate and other factors which may pop up later.

I think you are wrong sir, the dpc/dpm does that, it is an impermeable membrane on or below the over site conc, we use mostly polythene film sheet. minimum is 100mm but the acceptable is 150mm, it's just a solid ground cover. let's talk the former, compacted laterite and hardcore, we skip the hardcore part why.

if you want to use it to hide stolen naira make it 6 feets.
