This is a Kosmos satellite (Kosmos 782) launched in 1975 for biomendical research by the same country that launched Sputnik.

Start small....grow big.
We are in 2017 and still hyping small cubesats that are not even as large as a can of milo. India and pakistan are launching real satellites and even doing it by themselves. Dont hype mediocrity. Its a small science project and achievement and its noting to make a mole of.

India's space program started in the 1960's. No wonder they are launcing big satellites...and even a robot mission to mars....

Stop deceiving yourself. You are not starting anything. You just paid for logistics. You gained nothing with this except maybe they send you images of akure from space or the weather conditions. I hate people hyping mediocrity. Thats why politicians take us for fools in Nigeria.
Re: FUTA Satellite Flies Into Space In US Today by YaksonFCA(m): 9:01am On Jun 01, 2017
Nice one. But why doing that in the US?

Personally speaking, I don't think that Nigeria needs a space programme.

But at the same time, I am appreciative of when people start small...and grow big.

I drive a Toyota car. Sixty years ago, Toyota cars were not only not popular in the USA...but had a reputation for being bad quality.

Today...Toyota=quality.

Also,Samsung thirty years ago was a mediocre brand...now it is better.

The reason why I am happy anyway about this satellite is simple. If we can use the knowledge gained to develop skills that would eventually take us off oil...and make us an industrial nation...by learning from the experts...then so be it.

I am sorry you are dissapointed. Of course...Nigeria should have done better.....we did have a space project as far back as the 1970's...before King Oil made making things unattractive. But today...at least...we have people who are trying to develop the skills to take us out of our oil dependency and into industrial dependency. And I for one appalud them.

PS: Much of the funding for the project most likely came from outside Nigeria.

Futa satellite?...
You must be kidding me.. .... Futa was just fortunate to participate in the making....... . Biko
Comprehension passage is compulsory in O/L English exams. Did you pass or you just want to be unfortunate yourself ?

Everyone read this from the news :

“The Nigerian CubeSat is designed, built and owned by The Federal University of Technology, Akure..."

That's clear enough without any ambiguities.

I salute your civility and I understand where you stand. Since you are someone i can discuss with maturedly, i will now use an analogy to explain where I stand. The cubesat is like taking a parcel to UPS or FedEX and having them send mail it for you. You see you have not gained anything from such but just paid for logistics. Futa or Nigeria doesn't gain any rocket science knowledge from this. Its a small science achievement that shouldn't be hyped. It's disgraceful in the 21st century.

Your stupidity is of a rare cast, who cares whether you are omo eko or omo ale eko, show us your resume before you can have the ground to say ish. Do you even know the meaning of "I won't engage you" yet you gleefully type those above mentioned hogwash. Go and learn from China a country that started by copying now a force to be reckoned with globally. Many can criticise but few can do better. If you have not achieved anything in your life then you don't have the right to question those who have. I want you to engage me.

I know you're only dissapointed it's not from the East
the East Is More Synonymous For Better Things Than Buying Satellites Which Will Soon Go Out Of Orbit And Be Lost In Space

Kudos to FUTA, but are we sure futarians were involved? Because that's the very essence of using a university i.e educating the students.
