U have raised some good points... Academically it allows one to be focused on one's study. Aside the academic point of view, it is no longer helpful... Lemme say it has outlive its purpose and needs... Infact in Lagos, some of those schools have rent out their hostels for tenants and warehouse.. I don't need to mention names here...

And I'm about to send two of my boys to boarding school by october. Though, most of the listedpoint may not be applicable as it's a private school.

The first is already 13 and going to ss1 while the second born is already 10 and going to jss2.

Day student in the same school and want to move them to boarding of the same school for my wife to have less to attend to in the house.

I went to a boarding house and most of these things are true though I never engaged in negative vices. The most important thing is taking your child to a good boarding house.
I personally believe that any child who survives in a boarding will be able to withstand the storms of life. Boarding house is #cool#

It is not the same child you sent to boarding school you will get back. i will never make the mistake of sending my children to boarding school. Thanks for this article that is why i love visiting www.dailyfamily.ng.

I went to a boarding school and I am sure i am closer to my family than many people that schooled from home. Most of this points are individual. A child that will spoil will still spoil in a day school.
Was it not here that we read about the SS3 day students in a school in ikoyi were sexually molesteing female students openly?
I will still send my children to boarding schools.

Very true op. I remember my experiences back then. Was really horid. We drank rain water and our only source of water were the rivers around namely
*bee(because close to the stream there were lots of bee nests)
*tea(the colour of the stream)
*girls stream
*bridge(had a log bridge across)

Only drug in the school pharmacy was paracetamol
Bullying was free for all.....

I'm not angel but I would have been a much better person if i had not schooled there.... Even typing it makes me reminisce on the evil experiences...

Invalid points... Boarding school is still the best...I went to a boarding school and it brought out the best in me..Anybody can possess the above listed points doesn't necessarily matter whether they are boarders or not..The best thing is train ur child well and pray for them.

Simple and short......a spoilt child is a spoilt child...home or away.....boarding school brought out the best in me also...used to be a very timid child until i went to a boarding school and learnt not to always hide behind my mummy....

Your child can be with you 24/7 and you would still have no idea what goes on with them or in their minds...especially these generation kids....

My daughter is in boarding school, and I am happy she is there. The difference is clear. Intelligence, focused, not materialistic, read ofteN. Those traits u listed, I have not observed. So do your research well before spuring out trash, right!

They can never show you that bad side of them if daz wat u are expecting...if i sit you down i tell you how life waz in boarding school, You wil think twice and monitor your child carefully,don't be deceived by wat you see, i attended boarding school in one of the prominent sec school in nigeria dat have produce top individuals in dis country...bt do u knw wat?? All dat waz listed der by the Op is all we saw in skul...there are many lesbians and homosexuals now is cox of boarding school, is it about wat we did in night prep...social gathering week days...dou the advantage is der also, you can study nd be competitive anywer u find ur self...both now in University do you know the most intelligent?? Boarders, the leaders in cult group both male nd female cult? Boarders! Dey tend 2 reunite dem selfs again wen dey meet in tertiary institution...so ma boarding is gud both dnt doubt any single tin listed up der! Be close 2 ur ward... The best thing is to pray that this children should have the fear of God in them be it boarding or day what ever will be will be ,parents should be friendly to their kids it will make them to always have them in mind and also remembers their parents wish and advice,but all the same private boarding schools are better than public :

You are right, but I think it is much worse when kids have other "parents"
with unlimited access to groom and influence them.
In parenting, little things can have grave consequences.

My parents were forced to withdraw him 4rm d school and enrol him at upright college. Then, at fatolu bustop, ipaja instead.

it is actually not the truth cos i went to a boarding school and turned out just fine without any of the aforementioned behaviours by op though i wouldn't know maybe it is because i went to a missionary boarding school. We don't bully ourselves in boarding school we are actually more united so as to take stands against seniors plus unity and co-operation keeps us going. For what it is worth my siblings went to government ones and also turned out just fine
