I'm an Engineering graduate. I find myself doing the job of an accountant. The fact that I don't like the job affects my performance. I find myself making mistakes which ordinarily I wouldn't make. People doing jobs you don't like, how do you cope? |

I know there are no jobs in Nigeria so as a result we decided to be flexible and take up any job in order to survive but you can never do well in a job you don't like. My advice keep looking and keep applying for jobs in the field you want. Do not slack. Do not force yourself to develop interest in your job because it will not work. Well depends Be searching for another while working there. It's simple cos don't quit a job unless you have a strong mind like me  I'm dead serious I quit my job cos I don't like it and the yummiest thing is there is no alternative anywhere. But just 2 months later I got so many offer but I'm still relaxing at home joooor I can't kill myself Some people will say who ask you 2 Likes

a lot of people end up settling for less than they envisage. you just have to do whatever you are doing right now with all your strength cos this your present job might be your key to your dream career. I left a job that allows me to be the gentleman I love being and went for a job that has turned me to an agbero. I now run round trailers in a workshop. I studied electrical and computer engineering, left the position of an IT manager with a fully furnished office in the heart of Abuja to become a fleet officer (field staff = no office) in a transport company in a typical village with no light sef. I now run round work shops and garages making sure my fleet is in order NA WHERE THE MONEY SURE PASS, NO BE WETIN I WAN DO. NA NAIJA WE DEY. WHEN DE MONEY DON GATHER, I FIT FOLLOW CAREER BASED ON SENTIMENT modified: OP: are you a certified engineer? If the pay isn't good enough, you can't like the job. Especially when it's not your preferred career. Let the lack of better options be your motivation. Try to take each day as it comes. Draw up a daily schedule, or establish a step by step guide to carrying out each assignment. This would serve as a template to doing things accurately even with lesser concentration or focus. Modified Also keep a little note/dairy to take jots of details you might forget. You don't need to pack the brain with all details. Don't forget to secure your notes. Take breaks when you feel overworked. No matter how stressful or urgent it might be. "Work no dey finish" Always let your boss know how long it will take you to get a task done. This will relief you of too much burden and make you appear organized. But you shouldn't be slower than your colleagues in service delivery. 1 Like |

Anfieldboss: Never stop what you love doing, continue and don't deter, trust me a time would come you would understand that its not about surviving but Living. Nigerians are known for survival but those cut out for living even as Naigerians are people who fight their way by not giving up and so allow the system control them. Its all in the game of taking charge of your life. If money is what controls your living then a price tag is on your head. Get what am saying, try to survive but make plans to start living. For its possible to get the work one wishes for either you find it or get out to find it somewhere else or you create it. If you're in a job you don't like is because you have no alternative at the moment. Try to be good at some aspect of that job.... or move to another department with about the same pay... whether it be gateman/driver. Been there done that...lasted one week in first job..... accounts clerk.....felt caged! ...another one was ready to quit within 4 hours... security job... for me... was sooo boring I knew I couldn't last a whole day standing doing nothing!...they sent me to work in warehouse! ...my mind was free...learned a lot... and... was making like twice as much as the well dressed guards! |
