That said, I'll advise you convert the cancelled quota to another use. That's a smarter deal for both parties, methinks.
The other part to it is if you know someone there, other than the "ever-courteous" customer service personnel, who would gladly help resolve your complaint.
There's certainly a way out.
But a refund? I doubt. No refund would be made for economy class ticket, the ticket can as well valid for a year. The only option is for him to reschedule his flight

I see from the docket that you paid by Credit Card. Just put in a claim to the Credit Card company, in the UK they will refund you gabadaya and take up the matter with the Airline. The Airline has to act reasonably if it wants to retain its credit card payment option.
