I will answer you in parables: I have seen Nigeria when you can be stranded (especially in the north) and knock at someone's door and you will very likely be given a place to put your head for the night. Now take this generally to Business, social life etc. This still happens in the north though...

Now, if you as an Igbo man was presented with an Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba man to trust one, you will take a Hausa man. Of the remaining two people, you will leave the Igbo man and pick the Yoruba man...

Igbos are 'smart' people. They're pushed by a need for survival and intra and extra-Igbo competition (l pass my neighbour or chest-beating). It will still happen someday. Igbos will forsake their property and other immovable possessions in the north and the west and return home. After developing other people's lands, they would eventually return to our not-too-developed land to start afresh. So why not take the bull by the horn, face the temporary challenges and return to igbo land today, where no body would see you as yammiri or omo igbo. It is a sacrifice you should make for your children and unborn generations. This is exactly what I did in 2015. It was not an easy venture but I am very happy and free today.
