Some would say "romanticism" instead of "rheumatism". For example a nairalander called Pidgin2 only to blame d spelling error on android. Pidgin2 were u dey hope light for today last 22 hours? U don tire? grin

2. I could care less

You're in a situation, probably angered by someone, in a bid to get back at him/her, you say 'I could care less', this is wrong because the sentence actually means you're concerned about the situation. The correct phase is "I COULDN'T CARE LESS"

[/quote]

If you actually came up with this yourself. It shows that you dont quite get sarcasm/irony.
Just like when someone is talking and you are like "keep talking.. i am interested" when you really arent.

Op, a good one from you though. But your caption is grammatically wrong. Wrong is a noun. It ought to be 'wrongly' and not 'wrong'. Thanks.

4. Cousin brother/sister

You hear people say, 'He's my cousin brother'. The word cousin is a noun and not an adjective, making it irrelevant to describe the gender of the cousin. "SHE'S MY COUSIN" is just about right
I got this wrist watch from my cousin sister. nko??

wrong and wrongly are adverbs.....
The adverbial wrong always follows the verb it modifies (e.g., he answered wrong). It also follows the object of the verb if there is one (e.g., he answered the question wrong). And wrongly can go either before or after its verb (e.g., he was wrongly imprisoned by the state; the state imprisoned him wrongly).

Very educative thread, OP. I also shared something similar in one of my blog posts as captured below:

15 COMMONLY USED REDUNDANT WORDS

Chances are that you use one of these words, oblivious that they are tautological in nature.

And redundant words, going by definition, are words that do not add anything to statement. Often, one word in a tautological or redundant statement may be all that is needed.

So, I’ve compiled 15 of the commonly used redundant words, proffering alternatives to them. I’m sure you are eager to know them; just come along with me and I’ll show you:

Reverse back: I don’t know if someone can also “reverse front.” It’s a long journey for you to say “reverse back.” Spear yourself the stress and just use REVERSE.

Okay, i found that confusing too but i wanna assume the difference is in the all caps (?)

Perhaps it must be all caps when written for emphasis and " impact" sake!

Nice write up. Here is mine: It is wrong to say: 1. So, therefore - It is very wrong. Rather, say so or therefore. 2. I am hearing you- Simply say, I can hear you. 3. I am coming back - I will be back.

your #2 is very very wrong. The correct way is to actually say you could care less. Which simply means; you CANNOT CARE about the ish

When you say yu couldn't care less you're simply implying that you-could-not-care-less which simply means you there is no way you would not care about the ish.

And don't argue it with me.....save yourself the embarrassment of me dissecting it further
u r wrong naw....
