This is very nice write up. Iv actually used them both and I prefer the Supercharge. The Turbo was on my Audi and the Supercharge on the Range Rover.
The sound of the Range alone can make a grown man "JERK"... grin grin grin grin

Just a general note of information to correct some glaring errors on this write up.

1) both super and turbo chargers compress air and thus the compressed air needs to be cooled before it's useful to the engine

2) both super and turbo chargers use bearings and thus they need to be oiled. You can get oil that is not plumbed from the crankcase or from a source directly on the accessory.

Of my two Mini Coopers, one is supercharged and the other is turbocharged. They both have factory intercoolers.

To answer a Gazzuzz question, in the aftermarket realm, there are custom cars that all the accessories that hangs off of the crankshaft are clutched. Alternator, water pump (some now use electric water pumps), etc

If anyone wants to really learn these subjects, then I recommend to read on established websites of people with direct and hands on experience like this one http://www.superchargersonline.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=13

I continue to understand now why perfectly good vehicles enter Nigeria and become scrap.

Yes, kits are available on eBay.

Depending on condition of the engine you'll most likely grenade the engine quickly.

FALSE! Not all BMW cars use forced induction motors. The allure of BMW over time has been it's silky smooth naturally aspirated inline six motors. Of course there are a couple of V8s and V12s thrown in by Bavaria in addition to the new turbo four cylinder motors being developed fairly recently.

I think the introduction of the N54 (if that's the right engine code) twin turbo 3.0 I6 started BMW's turbo adventure in their modem vehicles.

I drive a Turbocharged Passat 1.8. It's an incredible experience. Acceleration makes me feel light-headed; almost like I'm in a jet. grin grin grin
