By: Shehu Bello-Olayinka The former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, said the unity of Nigeria should not be question but that everyone has a right to demand for the division of the country. The former government said this at the commemoration of the June 12 Presidential Election, widely acclaimed to be free and fair, and believed to have been won by Moshood Abiola but annulled by former Military Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida, held, Monday, Excellence Hotel, Ogba Lagos State. According to him, “The unity of Nigeria should not be question. Though people have a right to say they want to divide the country, they have a right to say anything they want, but have no right to carry arms, if they are to carry arms, then that is criminal”. “People have a right to ask for what they want to do, but are those thing they are saying possible, the answer is no. then we need to play back to what will unite the country and what will unite the country so that we can move forward”. He also called on the Federal Government to respect the judiciary irrespective of the judgment. “June 12 should be the symbol of fairness, equity and obedient to the rule of law. Today, most of our security agencies are still misbehaving, taking the law into their hands. Taking the law reserved for the judiciary in to their hands. No matter how worst, no matter how we all think about the Nigeria judiciary, it remains the best in Africa. I have gone to very country in Africa, we send our judges to Uganda, Namibia, The Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, which our judges work in those places and they have giving good account of themselves. http://thebelltimes.com/unity-nigeria-not-question-kalu/ |

Everything I've heard so far about UNITY has been in the constitution but has never been practiced. We live in a country where nepotism and inequality is the order of the day... If UNITY must exist; Then we need a new Nigeria where everyone is treated fairly, no tribal war. And for this to be achieved restructuring must be considered. Because Naija don spoil tey tey... |

Kratos3364:I tell you. Bad leadership has to be addressed first. You might succeed in seceding but you could still remain backward if you still have the chunk of these bad leaders in elective positions. I believe in restructuring not seccesion. The powers that be in the north should stop hindering the progress of other regions. |

If Britain that created Nigeria can allow Scotland referendum for them to decide if they want to go or stay..... Any Nigerian that says Nigeria cannot be divided is a fool. |
