Re: ... by Nobody: 11:54pm On Jun 06, 2017
I bought Topfeed on Saturday and it finished this evening Tuesday making it four days. This is my observation for 9 weeks plus broilers

1. The crude protein of topfeed finisher is very low (11%cp) as against for example 18% cp for Rico Gado. The house is litered with their feathers which shows a low crude protein feed of topfeed

2. The chicks ate the feed in record time. It could be as a result of various factors like content or lower energy feed, etc

3. The broilers have a more watery stool compared to other feeds.

Estimates for broiler fed all the time
1 bag = 0-16 days
1 bag = 17-26 days
1 bag = 27-34 days
After then book a bag for every 5/6days or 6 bags a month

Day 75
Coming to the end of my broiler project. Will trim about 40 of 46 broilers by weekend.
Luckily, my frozen noilers are almost finished in the freezer.
I will try to take all the weights and pictures before then.

Feed update
About 12 bags used to date to feed 46 broilers.

Other updates will be coming up as I round up this thread.

I process them for my personal consumption. They is done by paying 50 naira each for killing and dressing a bird.
I store for at most 4 months (3 broilers a week consumption) to cater for my family needs.

For those that want to sell, it sold to frozen feed stores where it is priced per kg. Lokoja is about 950-1000 per kg dressed bird.

Off course they are, just go to any market near you. Live chicken stands, you will c handlers there.
Or better still, buy a mechanical defeathering machine and DIY.

Re: ... by Nobody: 9:53pm On Jun 24, 2017
Switch to commercial feed. Whats your feed formula? I dont see how a good formulated feed is cheaper and better than a commercial one.
tasho105:
My first time of producing feed from the mill.It is quite cheaper than buying bags in the market.
Produced 75kg of finisher @3300 per bag and 25kg of super starter @ 3600.saved like 3k.
I'm going to weigh chick tomorrow, feed them extensively for 1 week with the new feed and weigh them...I know we can't wait to see the result.

.....fingers crossed.

His feed formulation is the problem.
Re: ... by tasho105(m): 2:01pm On Jun 27, 2017
You are 100% correct,it's the feed formulation.
It is too high in protein because I needed higher protein for the turkeys.
High cp makes broilers drink more water thereby their poo becomes very watery and wet the litter.
I was advised to get maize ofal to reduce the protein.
Lost couple of birds due to this but litter is no more wet as at this morning and their poo is becoming normal again.
Wet litter must always be avoided in poultry and its better for newbies in the biz to use commercial feeds.lessons learnt in a hard way tho
Thanks to the gurus on this platform...Emmachile,jjkenny,Turks...
