I guess having his laptop as part of cabin baggage wd mean that he is limited to some airlines....eg you won't be able to fly Emirates, turkish airlines et Al...may also translate to longer travel hours (stops)/more cost, varied baggage policies, depending on your kaiya grin

Blackbuddy:

I think it's more economical to buy the laptop in Nigeria, it's a crazy reality. When you compare prices in Nigeria to those in Canada, Nigerian prices are really competitive and reasonable. As for luggage weight, I advise you carry your laptop in your hand luggage and have it with you so you don't fall into the unfortunate situation of having it stolen in transit. Sadly, this is a risk of air travel across multiple transit points. Most of us just put our laptops in our carry-on, backpacks or rucksacks. If they (awon boys) want the laptop, they have to steal you too. Just make sure you have no pornography or questionable materials in your laptop in case of random customs search. America has taught us to be careful what you download and keep in your laptop and phone when you travel across borders, smh.

Hi boss, for me it was Turkish Airlines and I flew with the laptop in my backpack containing all my original certificates, family documents, some personal effects and my kids jackets. It was bulky but I just hung it on my back after it went through the xray screening. I can't recall if it was weighed but I doubt if anyone will turn you back for weight of backpack. My wife carried her own backpack and 2 of my kids carried back packs as well. We maximized my family size to carry stuff as 5 hang luggages smiley Hopefully, others will share their experience.

Passengers flying some airlines can no longer have electronic items bigger than phones as carryon. ...effective March 2017, to America

No one weighs hand luggage if its not looking ridiculously out of proportion I.e mega big. The issue is some airlines no longer allow laptops in the cabin,so check with your preffered airline first.

Hello house,i will be traveling soon coz am on study permit, i really need your advice on which one is much more better and preferable (base on experience) btw purchasing a laptop in Nigeria or in canada (considering cost). initially, i was thinking of buying it in canada wen i get there because i feel buying it in Nigeria will add to my luggage weight. On the other hand,i am getting more confused hearing people talk about how crazy they pay tax on every purchased goods in canada. please gurus in the house i need your advice oo and i mean a very good laptop not less than #200k here in naija thanks

From my own personal experience, I think you can get better deals in Canada. If you go to any BestBuy store, ask for open box laptops (these are laptops that was bought by someone else but returned within a week or two). It is pretty much brand new but the box is not sealed in it's original condition but who cares. Plus it comes with the warranty too. You could save a couple of $100 doing this and you can also bargain with the sales guy/girl on the floor. (This was how I got my Mac for a great deal).

Also, you can get amazing deals on Amazon Canada/US if you search well and get it delivered to your doorstep within 24-48 hours using Amazon prime option.

Or wait till Black Friday or Boxing day to get good deals. There are pretty good deals during this period. Also, when I was school, there was an option to rent laptop for free with our student ID Card (if you are worried about waiting till Black Friday).

Hi guys, what's the place of international Driver's License? I mean, is it advisable to get this in Nigeria or get the National Driver's License once landed? Thanks
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by Gymme(m): 10:29pm On Jun 16, 2017
The way you guys are mentioning 200k, 350k on laptop is 'fearing' someborri. Haba!

Well, i'm not sure what your specs are but i'm sure you will get better deal in Canada. With the current exchange rate, 350k is over $1,000 and that will buy you a 'moderate spec' MacBook not to talk of Dell, HP, Acer etc. If your money no reach buy new lappy, you can get refurbished one/open box or they could even be on sale ('might' need to wait for some seasons like Boxing day sale, Black Friday etc). This is for people like us that take advantage of sales anyway.

***Oh @Dogice said it all already***

temitope06:

Depends on the configuration of the laptop you want, what specs are u looking at? Processor, RAM, HDD size, HDD or SSD, Screen size, etc. When u say not less than 200k, does that mean you can go as high as possible or u meant not more than 200k. Recently bought a Dell for 350k but d specs r quite high. Figure out what you want in the lappy first..

If you've got one, bring it along. You can use it to drive until you get your Canadian license which requires passing the driving test (road test or a combination of road and knowledge tests) but don't rush to take the driving test when you arrive. Get used to your city and read the drivers' book provided (for free) so as to know the road signs better. Your international license will be verified if it is original so please don't shoot yourself in the leg as some peeps did.

I fly Emirates or Qatar airline, they have never included the weight of my laptop to the 7kg carry on allowance.

Markab:
Congrats on your approval sir/Ma. I prefer Skyscanner.net because you can view "whole month" then choose the best date for you to fly. Once you make a choice, you can contact the operators for booking.

I use skyscanner for all my trips.

Good morning house. Im applying through the fsw program, and i received my ppr last week, and I'm about to send my documents. Please I need to know if I should fill and attach the imm008 form with my family passports I'm sending. All 4 members of my family are on the original application and nothing has changed as per family composition. Also I need to know if, when filling the imm0008 form, the location fill in as the place I wish to reside determines where I will have to live when I get to canada. I'm a heavy equipment mechanic and madam is a banker. I have a friend in Vancouver and also in Saskatchewan. I'm also thinking of settling in Alberta because of my line of work, but considering that I don't know anyone there yet I'm not sure if I should select Vancouver or saskachewan instead. Experienced guys Please advice me. I'm sending my passports today so I need to know

Not to scare you, but it could. It depends on the officer reviewing your application. Someone has been rejected cos of it.

Please, raise CSE and upload the colored scan of the original. You will be fine.

I submitted without the form. Asked around and was told you only need it if your family composition has changed.
