NO COURSE GUARANTEES EMPLOYMENT. Sincerely speaking no course guarantees employment. The issue is about the person in question. Gone are the days when people go to Universities in other to get employed. We need to change our mindset. You don't have to work with the course you studied. We go to school so that we can be better in whatever we find ourselves doing. While in schools, students should try to discover themselves. This is the most important thing to do. Deposited inside every one of us are about 700 talents, skills and giftings we can make the career from.

Who told you mass comm. Works only on media platforms?

In short the Nigeria labor system has changed, it's after competency not certificate. Even if u study medicine and u re fit to work in a bank, consider been employed.

It's not the courses that are the problem, it's the lack of creation of jobs. Only very few industries are functioning, those who shout entrepreneurship are basically doing businesses ,such as importation, that rarely need the services of any professional skill. Fresh graduates, not just the ones listed by the OP alone, are churned out every year to face this stark reality.
Exactly. Very soon other courses will join the train if care isn't taken

Better go and do Msc if you have the money or go for a DE in a professional medical course. Biochem in Nigeria is just big name with very little job opportunities.

@OP

I don't envy your parochialism. One's course of study can never bind him to a specific line of profession. This means that there's always an option for an enlightened, not just an exposed, person.

Conceitedness remains the major bane of a small-minded person's retrogression in life.

3) BANKING AND FINANCE: This course also sound so beautiful and it can easily attract the.mind of Jamb candidates into studying it. But the fact is that the banking sector is a very open sector to virtually any graduates even the science students and yoruba graduates. So at this time, your been a graduate of Banking and finance won't matter at all. The worst is that you are likely not going to get any Job outside the Banking sector..

This is a very dumb opinion. Studying Banking and finance doesn't always mean one have the prospect of working in the bank. Of course not. How about the financial part then? Virtually all professional companies have a financial section where financial experts are needed. With the experience of banking and finance students, they fit in more for this post.

I was expecting to see, philosophy, psychology, physiology, religious studies, history, sociology and some education courses, alas the OP is useless.

Besides, all these courses re only useless in a failed country like Nigeria, outside Nigeria they are all hot cakes.

Welcome, here are some big courses with a potential of rendering those who studied it into a state of regrets. They are big courses. There names sound good to the hearing. But are these big courses really what they claim to be?. Or are their other courses or profession competing with them.? Let take a look at them in MY top 5 listings below.

1) PETROLEUM ENGINEERING: This is a very big course to many. And a lot of people who study this course are potential workers at the oil refineries and oil companies. But after these places where can a petroleum engineer work? Absolute no where! Apart for the fact that these graduates compete with graduates of other engineering courses for the limited vacancies they are equally likely to be ignored since it is a restricted course. Chemical engineering which encompasses major chemistry of engineering including Petroleum engineering are great competitors of these people. It means if a petroleum engineer is unable to get a place in the oil industry or oil company. It may become virtually impossible to get any other job due to its nature of restriction.

2) MASS COMMUNICATION: This course also sound so good but apart from the fact they are only resticted to only the mass media, graduates of English language and other related fields are also strong competitors of these people.

The worst is that you are likely not going to get any Job outside the Banking sector.

4) INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS: Everyone want to be an international man but does the course really profess the name it bears?

5) MEDICAL BIOCHEMISTRY: Even biochemists are highly respected not to talk of a whole Medical Bichemist. But the fact is Medical biochemistry is under Bichemistry and as a result a restricted course. So they are likely to depend only in the hospital for a job. But sadly, graduates of Medical laboratory science have taken over most of their hospitals and likely to be a great competitor or combater of these set of people.
The case of mass communication, banking and finance are just too myopic. There certain things that English graduate doesn't know about broadcasting that they think they can jump into the media. Mass communication is broad that they different areas of speciality.they include reportage, newscasting, news production, news edition, journalism, among others. The English language graduate may be good in broadcasting but not all the above mentioned. Banking and finance isn't restricted to working with banks as some of you think. Be a CBN governor alone can't come from a graduate from other fields that don't have idea of banking regulations. An Economist would be a substitute for such since banking and finance spring forth from it. Heading the banking service and stock exchange market isn't meet for any Tom and dick that comes from other fields of study that's why most banks insist you get qualification relating to banking.
Because of the excess supply of labour in the labour market, limited firms are selecting whom they like. Had it being there exceess industries all these wouldn't be happening that's why we're not getting in business in Nigeria

Whoever that insuniated that "include all paramedical discipline into that fold" must be smoking weeds. That's graduate nurses, pharmacist, radiographers, medical laboratory scientist should be included? Don't just get me started.
It's quite unfortunate that microbiology/medical microbiology, Biochemistry/medical Biochemistry jobs have been taken by the MLS. I really sympathized but there are other opportunities like breweries, research, etc and of course post graduate studies.

What is this one saying, for the fact u see us carrying typewriter doesn't mean we only study how to type. The course was formally Secretarial Studies. We are the real office managers.

Wait, shey if we no go school we no go succeed gan ni? What's with the wahala.. I remember back then in school, while i'm jejely going to my class i'd see all this otm students carrying boxes here and there.. It was only few months to the finish line that i know it is typewritter these people are carrying for four years.. Today i'm not surprised when i meet them and see they are still carrying boxes up and down, it has become a permanent disease and they are more like they are mad these days.. And funniest part is that thay are always in a hurry so there's no way they are gon tell you they are alright and you'd believe.. They are more like official mad people.. That's what school (education) has done.[/quote]

This is a parochial thinking. Studying banking and finance doesn't mean they can only work in the bank. There are other financial coys for Pete's sake.
