My Mother In-Law Checks My Phone, How Do I Stop Her? by kekakuz(op): 9:39am On Jun 27, 2017

Having a cool mother in-laws is something most people would like but its turning to something else for me.
When ever she is around, she picks my phone and immediately enters my WhatsApp messages.at first I felt she make a mistake but last night makes it the 5th time it's happening.

yesterday, I slept off in the living room and by the time I woke around 12am, I discovered my phone was not by my side. I searched for it everywhere and when I still could not find it, I proceeded to my wife's room to pick my wife's phone and call my line, to my amazement, I saw my mother in-laws on my phone.

I was angry at first but I had to control myself i collected the phone and I discovered she was in my email and Facebook messaged and she even knows my unlock pattern.

am tired of this but I don't want to disrespect her. how do I deal with this.

Better if you can change the lock pattern. She would really feel ashamed to ask you about pattern and would definitely stop doing such type of things.

Tell your wife to warn her mum. If the situation doesn't change, change am for mama. Warn her to stay off your stuff. If she tries to emotionally blackmail you with age or what not( as is typical with Nigerian elders ), threaten to report her to her husband or any elderly male figure in the family. Shikena

Change your pattern.
Then inform your wife you're not happy with her mother not respecting your privacy. Ask her to politely discourage her mum from touching your phone. It's actually very rude and disrespectful.

Just avoid keeping it within her reach, change the lock pattern, jokingly ask her to pick either using your phone or buying her a new phone... just to pull her legs

BTW, doesn't she have hers ?
Or isn't it internet enabled?

Anyho, just let her no you don't like it in a friendly but stern manner, she'll get the message wink

Whatever gave your MIL the courage to pick your phone at night and at will, needs to be addressed. It's more shocking than the act of taking your phone. If you tell her to leave your phone without addressing the underlying see finish _she might take your boxers next.

Lock your phone and firmly tell her not to take it again, or you can let your wife do it. That's some new school MIL though, my MIL can't even get past the home-screen of mine if she tries.

Her attitude is so disrespectful. Tell her point blank to stop it. You don't want to be afraid of disrespecting her when she's already disrespecting you.
Also talk to your wife about it.
This is wrong on many levels.
It needs to stop!
