The tree was in the middle of the garden.
All other fruits they could eat(make use of)
Eve's eye did not become open after eating it.
Their eyes became open after she gave it to Adam to eat.
They became ashamed
After eating it and covered their unclothedness not their mouth.

As for the tree of life. John 15.5, John 14.6, revelation 22 2-3. 1st Corinthians 15.45.
Adam would have been the man Jesus Christ, became had he not fallen along the way, in other words he would have become the tree of life, making it right to say Eve was the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

So had Adam and eve overcome and multiplied in perfection, the world would have been an eden, a physical representation of Heaven on earth, with their fall we lost eden and everything associated with it.

Like I always tell people without understanding the events in genesis chapters 1 to 3, you will never understand the entire Bible, the purpose of creation, Christology, the words of God will be twisted (with good faith).
Unfortunately a lot of Christians and by extension Atheist don't understand the Bible, that's why some loose faith, some back slide and others i.e atheist, make jest of it.
The Bible is far deeper than it is, and that is why I advise people to follow only the gospels, you can never understand the Bible unless by divine interpretation and someone higher than you shows you the way.
I don't know up to one tenth of the Bible, but believe me, if you know half of what I know, your love for the father and by extension humanity, will increase exponentially.
