The Igbo apex socio-political organization Ohanaeze Ndigbo has scolded the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu as well as his members for issuing a no-election order in Anambra state unless Biafra Referendum is allowed.

According to the President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Anambra state is still under the Federal Republic of Nigeria and should be bound by its laws, stating that it’s the fundamental right of the people to choose their leaders and they should not be denied that right.

The President-General of Ohanaeze, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, issued the statement while addressing members of the Anambra State house of Assembly at the Legislative Complex, Awka in Anambra State, today, Thursday where he announced that Nnamdi Kanu had flouted the undertaking he took before him (Nwodo) when he was released from detention.

His statement read: “I’m just being paternal. The way I commended them as my children, is the way I have the right to chastise them when they go wrong. We don’t need this heat up.”

“News that reached us in the past few days that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB has declared that there will be no election in Anambra in November is shocking and disturbing. I hereby counter that declaration as President General of Ohaneze.

“Whereas Ohanaeze understands the marginalization and unfair treatment of Igbos which have given rise to self-determination movements in Igboland, leaders of these movements must not arrogate to themselves the supreme leadership of Igboland.

“Statements of the kind credited to Nnamdi Kanu are provocative, misleading and unproductive. Why should Anambra people be denied the opportunity to choose their own leader? Why should any of us who are not from Anambra, no matter how highly placed, descend to the arena and dictate for Anambra people when to vote, whether to vote or who to vote for?

“Anambra, nay Igbos, are still part and parcel of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Yes, we are not happy with our treatment in Nigeria. Yes, some of us want Biafra. Yes, some of us prefer a restructured Federal Republic of Nigeria. But the fact remains that we are still part and parcel of the present Federal Republic of Nigeria, bound by its laws, no matter how repressive or unjust.

“Our approach to reforms of our laws even if it leads to self-determination or restructuring must be lawful. We must convince other Nigerians of our point of view, we must strive to make others share our convictions.

“Our language must be civil, respectful and lead to consensus building. We must resist any attempt to turn division amongst us, as to which way we must go, become a source of altercations between us.

“As we speak very many of our people living in Northern Nigeria are in complete awe and consternation regarding how safe they will be after October 1st. Other Northerners living amongst us are also worried.”

“The Inspector General of Police has taken public notice of Nnamdi’s comments, which may amount to inviting a possible invasion of Anambra by the Nigerian Police, increasing the already existing siege on our people, which may lead to daily extortion on our highways. All these developments have arisen out of unguarded utterances.

“I find no venue more suited for the statements I make here. Every constituent part of Anambra is represented here. I believe that the honourable members here are competent enough to carry the Ohaneze message to every nook and cranny of Anambra State.”

You are crying of marginalisation and couldn't take any step to end it, now Ipob has taken a very drastic step not only to end marginalisation but to be totally free from these oso chi egbuss, you are now saying that they should use another approach to pursue their agitation.
Which approach should they use if not this best approach they are using now which suits Nigeria govt. ?

Uwazurike tired his best to be diplomatic in pursuing his dream yet, they intimidated him until the man compromised and started singing another song.

On the issue of election.. Nnamdi Kanu won't use arms and ammunitions to force anybody , his words alone will speak for him..30th may was perfect example..so no need to panic because we have already known what the outcome would be.
Civil disobedience is one of the means umuchineke can use to pursue their dreams which is well recognized everywhere. Don't give me the food I will eat today, tomorrow I will become hungry again NO !!

I couldn't agree more with the head of the Igbo Apex body...he spoke with wisdom as expected of a father-in one voice stating the pains and yearnings of the Igbos and in another voice stating the paramount need to stay within the ambit of the law while making grievances known....thus, he masterfully killed two birds with one stone!

I don't like Nnamdi Kalu's infamous declaration in Anambra state. He should pls tread softly.

Contrary to ur view, Nnamdi Kalu goofed fulltime. He shouldn't make comments that is detrimental to SE or SS progress or it's leaderships. He should watch his tongue.
