Bishop has made an important point. Removing CRS would make it impossible to be studied at the tertiary level. Arabic is of no relevance to us. It should never have been in our currency talk more of our educational sector.

Surely church secondary schools would never implement it anyway neither would they ever teach the Islamic content of the RNLV.

As for Osinbanjo, let him keep avoiding this issue. Just know that a PFN no vote of confidence is capable of ruining any Christian's political career.

*If Arabic is just a language why are Muslims defending it aggressivelyhuh
I'm certain u don't know but let me educate u on an issue. what's on our currency note is NOT Arabic but Hausa. You find it difficult to believe right? Prior to the coming of my ancestors, the Fulanis, in hausaland...The Hausas have developed a medium of writing their language locally called "Anjami" (u could Google anjami script). It's just like the popular Latin script used in writing English, French, German etc. So saying the introduction of Arabic into our currency is patently false..I hope you've learnt sth

Does it make any sense to Introduce Arabic studies in Nigerian educational system when we still have over 200 languages that we are yet to study? Is Arabic a language that is productive? How has Arabic improved the backward Arab world? Don't get me wrong, but the development in Qatar, Dubai and UAE are all done by white men whose language supports construction and Development. Arabic language is only in line with Islam.

Since we all know that Arabic is the language of Islam, why didn't they create an option that allows the study of Jewish or Greek languages which are in line with Christianity? No, they wont cos their aim is to systematically islamize Nigeria, a thing that will fail.

Arabic language adds no value to one's life other than being able to read the terror manual called Quran. Aren't they satisfied with their. issues and madrassahs that they now want to start corrupting the children of the Living God with a barbaric ideology?

If you are a Christian and you don't speak against this, i wonder if you think you and your children will be able to they devilishly sneak in Sharia law.

We reject Islam

and Arabic language
I don't know why the northern Muslims carry religion for head. And the worst thing is that they lack Godly characters. Religion should be deemphasized and not given any attention in our nation if we are to make any appreciable progress.

After taking into cognizance that this move was made by the previous administration, I wouldn't want to dwell on any government being Islamic or not.

The new move states that IRS/CRS are gonna be studied under one subject. While the Muslims go for IRS classes, the Christians go for CRS. So there is no mix of religion whatsoever.

To the aspect of religion, let take a look at the two foreign languages, it place in global use and also attachments to the two religions. While it is easy for a Muslim student to go for Arabic language, I feel it is also easier for a Christian to go with French. They are among the top 5 languages in the world. If you feel Christians are to Hebrew as Muslims are to Arabic, please tell us the place of Hebrew in modern day global communication. Of what importance will it be for a Christian to let go off French a global language for Hebrew based on religious sentiments. The government knows asking the students to pick between Hebrew and Arabic will leave the Christians at disadvantage in global communication. It is unfortunate that while the government viewed this from a more global language use, our religious leaders are seeing it as a battle ground for religion supremacy.

If the Christians so love the Hebrew language so much, why don't they start teaching their children Hebrew in their private schools and churches like the Muslims do with Arabic, instead they go with French.

I BELIEVE WE ALL KNOW WHAT WE ARE DOING.

Your argument, is both incoherent and dumb. Arabic is one of the most reputable international languages in the Universe. How come Nigerian Christians despite their education are so dumb by giving religious colouring to every and anything! Do u know Arabic is one of the principal languages used in the U.N. and not one dead Latin or Greek? How come people didn't say there is an islamization agenda in the U.N.! You could only appeal to emotions by calling sharia devilish and insultingbtye Qur'an. And u think ur bible is free of human sacrifices and genocide huh? rape and plunder? gouging of eye balls and killing of innocent children? I'd rather follow a devilish book than a holy shit that signifies raping, plunder, rape, infanticide, regicide and total annihilation. Nonsense!

When some clueless Nigerian president was kneeling down for Oyedepo and Adeboye why didn't these (god of men) agitate for reintroduction of CRK then?

Looking at this issue very well, Christians are clamouring that if they want to include foreign language why didn't they include Jewish or greek language which are related to Christianity. Let me ask you this, how many Christian study bible in those languages? but Muslims are still studying Qur'an in Arabic language so if government include Arabic language in the curriculum its good because it will help them understand the Islamic studies very well. More so they did not compulsory it for everybody. so why the noise

The reason I have not joined the fear mongering
The New Education Curriculum: Distinguishing Rumours from Facts~~~
~~~In 2010, former President Goodluck Jonathan convened a National Summit on Education. The Summit unanimously agreed that the Nigerian basic education curriculum is unwieldy, about 20 subjects at the time, and recommended a reduction in the number of subjects offered at the basic level of education.
~~~In 2012, the Federal Government approved a curriculum reform aimed at rationalizing the subjects offering in public schools in line with global practices and standards and the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) was mandated to effect that.
~~~In 2014, NERDC came up with a 9-year curriculum with the subjects arranged into groups, producing a maximum of 12 subjects at the lower basic (primary 1-3), 9 subjects at the middle basic (primary 4-6) and 10 subjects at the upper basic (JS 1-3).
a) For primary 1-3: the subjects are: English Studies, Mathematics, Nigerian Languages, Basic Science and Technology, Religion and National Values, Cultural and Creative Arts, and Arabic Language.
b) For Primary 4-6 add (a) plus Pre-vocational studies.
c) For JSS 1-3, add (b) plus Business Studies and French Language.
NOTE: English, Mathematics, French language, Arabic Language, and Business Studies (at the upper basic) are the only subjects that stand on their own. All the remaining 17 subjects in the Curriculum have been respectively listed under various subject groupings: Religion and National Values, Nigerian Languages, Basic Science and Technology, Pre-Vocational Subjects, and Cultural and Creative Arts.
~~~2015 was the year slated for the implementation of the reform across the nation.
NOTE: While all the other subjects are core, Arabic Language at all levels is OPTIONAL.
NOTE: All the above (from conceptualization to formulation of the policy) happened under Goodluck Jonathan, immediate past President, Nyesom Wike, then Minister of Education, and Prof. Godswill Obioma, the former NERDC Executive Secretary.
~~~In 2016, in the spirit of continuity of government’s policies and programmes, the current Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu gave directives as appropriate for the implementation of the reform.
Now let us look at the bone of contention, which is related to the teaching of CRS and Islamic Studies. Under the reform, as noted above, five subjects have been grouped under Religious Studies and National Values.
These are:
A) CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS STUDIES (CRS)
B) CIVIC EDUCATION
C) ISLAMIC STUDIES
D) SECURITY EDUCATION AND
E) SOCIAL STUDIES
The Christian Religious Studies (CRS) under the Curriculum has three themes, namely:
(i) God and His Creation
(ii) God’s Call and
(iii) Keeping God in our Relationships
Also, Islamic Studies has three themes:
(i) Qur’an
(ii) Tawhid and Fiqh and
(iii) Sirah and Tahdhid
NOTE: CRS and IRS are offered alternatively as a student is not allowed to offer both.
QUESTIONS:
a) Where did the CAN leadership and its otherwise discerning fellow travellers now threatening brimstone and fire get their idea that Christian Religious Studies was removed from the school curriculum and that Islamic Studies is being foisted on the country?
b) Why should religious leaders engage in beating the drums of war on such matters as curriculum review and playing bad politics with our educational system?
c) Are there no better ways of engagement, even when we have misgivings about a government policy? What purpose is all this overheating the polity supposed to serve?
Pls let us be careful what they use us to spread around in the name of politics. Even Jesus doesn't support spread of falsehood
Past Yakub Jonah
If you have read through the text book on Religion and National Values, you would understand their agitation. Obviously, you have not. You are still on the surface of the matter.
A child of Christian parents will be in possession of a book on Religion and National Values where after studying CRS will on his own read from the next section of the book on Islamic Studies where it says that you are TO DISOBEY HIS PARENTS if they don't allow him to convert to Islam and also everything Christians hold dear about Jesus Christ is bastardized and watered-down and you expect the parents to allow such to stand? There is no how an attack on Christian foundation will be allowed. Those who made this proposal are simply crazy.
Christian Religion studies stopped at secondary level, everything taught at university level is just heresy. Check those that studied CRK at tertiary level, they turn Bible upside down. Religion is a personal thing, it should be taught till primary 9 and stop because the curriculum at higher level is full of heresies.
