Vicky pushed open the door to Ken's office intending to shout 'surprise' but before she even got a chance to look into the office, the ringing of a phone made her remember she forgot her phone in the secretaries office, where she had gone to say ''Hi'' to them .

She rushed to the office, she had no time to waste, luckily the doctor had agreed to wait for her till she comes even though he was suppose to close by 4PM.

''Chioma, my phone!'' she almost screamed.

''Aunty, calm down, your phone is here, I was thinking of bringing it to you but i didn't want to ruin the husband and wife moment'' Chioma informed her while handing her phone over to her.

''Thanks but, I haven't even seen him and that reminds me, I left the door to his office open without even saying 'Hello' to him'' she replied and started walking away to her husband's office.

The office building made her wonder, if the architect that designed it, went to school at all.

Ken's office was located at an isolated end, a bit far from the secretary's office and that of the other staffs.

She increased her steps, at the same time looking at her wristwatch impatiently, she needed to go, she didn't want to keep the doctor waiting.

''Do you think we should tell her'' Tessy asked Chioma.

''Tell her what?'' Chioma asked putting her table in order excitedly, Just 30 more minutes to to closing time, her favourite time in the world.

''About that lady, that always visit's the boss, that tall and light-skinned one'' Tessy replied gesturizing.

''Nah, I think it's wrong, let her find out by herself, there's nothing hidden under the sun, one day one day she will find out about the lady'' Chioma replied with a note of sarcasm.

''There you go again, I didn't say he's cheating on his wife o, don't come and put me in trouble'' Tessy replied throwing a chewing gum into her mouth.

''Keep deceiving yourself, if he is not cheating then what is he always doing with the girl, and don't you usually see her clothes a bit rumpled whenever they come out, I'm not a baby o''

''I don't think he is cheating, he looks too innocent and handsome to do such a thing and besides, he loves his wife, she is such a lucky woman'' Tessy replied dreamily.

From the very first time she set eyes on the couple, she had admired them, even though she sometimes feel jealous- Jealous at the perfect chemistry that exists between the two.

''Hey snap out of it'' Chioma shouted, snapping her fingers in Tessy's face.

''I was only thinking about how impossible it is for our boss to cheat, I mean look at it this way, he has a beautiful wife, a caring and humorous one, so what excuse does he have to cheat''

''I'm not Ken'' Chioma murmured

''But you are his cousin''

''As his cousin I say he is cheating, he is a big time cheat'' Chioma said with a loud voice.

Lowering her voice, Tessy said ''He is a good man, he is not cheating, the lady might just be his friend''

Chioma left what she was doing and leaned lazily against the wall, after rolling her eyes continously at Tessy, she hissed, ''friends my foot! She is even his sister, now can we get back to rounding up for the day?''


''Yes Ma'' Tessy replied chuckling and continued with the files she was arranging before Vicky came in to greet them.

''Hello sweetheart'' Ken greeted as soon as Vicky walked into his office.

''Hi darling'' She replied giving him a peck.

''You didn't tell me you would drop by''

''yeah, sorry, I'm actually on my way to the hospital to see the doctor about that abdominal discomfort i told you about''

He felt relieved, that she won't be staying long.

''Then don't keep him waiting''

''Yeah, thanks see you later'' she replied and hurried out.

''Bye sweetheart''

Ken went and stood by his window, looking downwards at his wife's car.

''You can come out now'' he said aloud, his attention still on his wife's car which was now moving out of the gate and into the busy street.

''Pheew! That was close'' Kath said, coming out from her hiding place- under ken's big office desk.

''so close'' Ken affirmed.

''I need to go and you must drop me off'' she said giving him another seductive wink.

''sure, let's go, I'm really exhausted already'' he replied picking up his jacket which he hung on his chair ''Exhausted by you offcourse'' he added and they both laughed.

Vicky was driving slowly, pondering on her husband's behaviour a while ago in his office, he behaved really strange, he didn't ask her about her health nor the baby..

The Ken she knew would touch her belly and playfully speak to the child, he would ask her if she had eaten, taken her bath, had enough rest and all that, but today? Today had been different, he was in a hurry to get rid of her which made her wonder why.

And whose phone was ringing?

All this and more questions which she had no answer to, kept filling her thoughts.

She drove faster with a deep determination to find out the reason for her husband's strange behaviour.
