Better than living you life in an unhappy and abusive relationship Where everyday is another problem. Abeg ee. I'm not against relationships and marriage but it's not by force. All these "keep your marriage" nonsense is silly. Why live an unhappy married life when you can live a very happy single life? First day my boyfriend/husband will try to raise his hands on me, cheat on me or continuously abuse me emotionally, I'm outta there. People need to learn that happiness starts within yourself, not by being in a relationship. You gotta love yourself and if you do, you wouldn't put yourself through the trauma of an abusive relationship
...personally i see marriage as a great challenge...as it really takes the grace of GOD to live under same roof with a woman for a very long time! ...take out children&family&culture and i can assure you that 99% of men will never try living with a woman.

It also takes the grace of God to live with a man for a very long time. There is a differnce between dealing with a challenge and dealing with a life time of torture in the name of marriage!

...of course, i have never and will never support any form of violence against women and neither would i ever advicea woman to continue living under violence all in the name of marriage...

...yet on the other hand i seriouly warn men to be very careful as to whom they choose to marry as wife...because how long a man will live on earth is largely determined by his choice of wife!

The fight against domestic violence is really on a mental battlefront.

A man who would tell fellow guys not to hit a lady or stand up for a lady in the bus will still hit his own wife at home....

Remember a colleague who said 'women at work are his equals.... however, his wife can't try shit with him'

We need to tackle why a man feels it's ok to hit/abuse/disrespect/disregard his wife.

And Mercy Aigbe? Tonto Dikey? Too controversial to lead the protests

Happy walking...

Look around You, woman are in the work force, and giving men a run for their money.
Most is borne out of necessity. You cant say their husbands didn't send them to work. Face reality, the men cannot adequately provide for their homes anymore. The women cannot watch and sit at home while their children are being chased out of school, landlord keeps knocking on the rent for owed rent, their own parents who managed to raise them also have needs, they also have their own needs to be met.
If a woman's husband was meeting her financial needs adequately, I can bet you that most women would gladly be housewives. The men are not meeting this traditional responsibilities, so don't automatically expect the women to be able to meet theirs. The time these woman are out there doing the men's responsibilities could have been used to do their own traditional responsibilities at home. It's cause and effect .
Circumstance hasn't allowed them.
I cannot blame the men too because na condition make cray fish bend, so of you cant blame the men for leaving their responsibilities to their wives, you shouldn't blame the women for not being able to perform theirs.
Hope you know we have family men, who are graduates earning 30K in Nigeria. If their wives were not working, katakata go don burst. Hunger is no man/woman's friend.
Regarding house helps, they make life easier for both husband and wife. Unless of course as a man who's wife is working same hours as you and probably brings in more to the table , you want to come home from work and start cleaning dirty dishes and making dinner before your wife comes in.
I don't support underage children being used as maids.
If you're raising another person's child, of course it's expected they will help in the home as your children would too. But sadly a lot of these children are abused by their caregivers (both the madam and the oga in the house). Don't think its only the madam that abuse their help, and even those homes where the husbands don't abuse the maids, they are usually complicit in the abuse because they're aware and keep silent over it.
I believe most Nigerian women are super women combining work, with home duties. Most are still very traditional and don't even request their hubbies do house chores despite bringing in money for the home use.
They should be appreciated, and not vilified.
Reasonable men always help with chores and childcare. If both husband and wife could help themselves at home, there wont be need for househelps most times. Abroad, Nigerians have managed to do without househelps. Men do chores and childcare like kilode. They haven't died.
Most men's "financial secrets" are being kept by their wives, otherwise a lot of men would have been humiliated and exposed as "incompetent and infidels" who can't provide for their immediate families.

So the fight to protect children shouldn't be pushed on the women alone. It would be good for the men to even take an active role in this. In most societies, people listen to men more #fact.
Men are capable of loving, of reasoning, of being involved. Protecting the children/advocating against child abuse should never be seen as a gender thing.

Anyway, I talk too much. Let me come and be going
.
Hmmmmmm. A Nairalander with common sense, talking about subject matter instead of throwing insult at someone who may be nearly twice their age. A species facing extinction on NL. grin cheesy

You made some salient points.

But in our 9ja environment gender roles are more defined. Women do not tolerate men meddling into certain aspects of running the home. Like how to manage the housemaid or the shopping list. Fact. A man is easily tagged "controlling" or even "stingy". It will be subject of talk with her female friends. shocked

Child care and other duties are not unique to Nigeria. Worse even in the West where the system holds parents to a greater standard of responsibility over kids. On the threat of the social services taking your kids for good. Also rarely grandmother or aunt or other relatives coming to help.

Surely many hubbies earn little or no jobs at all. But these should be considered first before beginning a family. How to balance earning with raising a family. People do it in other climes. Plan first.

Note that for every family who's "financial secret" is preserved by the family, there are probably 50 where the man remains the sole or main breadwinner. A large number of women work and keep their money. The issues that arise between couples stem from men losing their jobs or the woman finally earning more. Then many of those women begin to disrespect the man. Women like to rob it in. Even a girl friend you assisted through school can suddenly begin blowing you grammar the minute she gets a decent job. Just normal.

That you still mention financial secrets kept by women means it is still novel and seen an "aberration". In climes were sharing domestic chores & responsibilities have become the norm, nobody mentions that anymore.

As for reasoning, well men have used "reasoning" to developed technology, medicine, aerospace and the modern stuff we have now. It all needs super logic. shocked shocked

What an odd life to live ! When you break up because you are unmarriable. You are useless. You are worthless. Your life has no joy. Your pride destroyed your life. You have no crown. No respect for you. You are a widow. You delight at been a single mom. Because the next man will leave you once again if you dont come to the reality of knowing marriage comes with the good, the bad. And the ugly and these 3 are in marriage. Most women championing all this forum don't have husband they have pride and cannot cope with anyman. They compare themselves with Michelle Obama who is happily married. You want to flirt around with a fellow male flirter, Our parents stayed strong in all weather. How old are all these useless women ... When you marry for the wrong reasons, wrong results are inevitable. Mercy and Tonto cant even have a relationship of 10 years. No anniversary. We will be here counting your ex husbands while i stay sticked with my opeyemi of life. Beautiful, intelligent, Prayerful, Smart and amazing. Shout out to the real kings and queens who will never give up on themselves. And will never run to social media to spread their dirty clothes. No one comes in BTW us.

doesn't mean they never argued or disagreed.

It's even possible that, at least once, one person decided just up and leave. But, that's where the manifestation of love and the right kind of company (spiritual, friends, business and family) comes into play.

I'm encouraged this afternoon.

Worthy of emulation.g.

If I didn't make any sense you shouldn't follow the trend. Something is so wrong with you women of now a days and it is called pride and ego. Something sustained the marriages of those days and that thing is missing. Don't marry for the wrong reasons and come here to shed crocodile tears. When tonto and mercy were enjoying their home, I'm sure you were invited because now you've chosen to be an ambassador for them, You marry for the wrong reasons and marry an animal and now you are all here trying to seek public pity. I totally rebuke any one (i can't use "man" because the moment you raise your hand on a woman you are not qualified to be called a man. But most of you women of now a days, you really need to check yourself something must be so wrong with some of you. olu Jacob is married and they've been together for long.go and look for a good role model. Our mothers are good examples. These thing only come from children from broken home, it didn't work for their parents and they don't know or have an idea of how a good home works. If you chose your role model right, pray to God and support your man in all ways, I have a good example around me here, a stupid lady got married to a young guy with no legal source of income( but ride good cars, mere looking at this dude , one could smell no sign of being responsible in him, but because he's got something worth clinging too, they got married and she's been his punching bag since then, she saw all these in him and still went ahead to marry him. Now she too will claim the tontos and aigbes claim. Its a free world, make your choice right, curse be unto any man that hits a woman and curse be unto any woman that marry for the wrong reasons and come here seeking public pity.what a odd life to live. How old is tonto and aigbe ? You will be here and I will be here when next they get married, and they will still move out because their ways of life. If you move out the first time, second time and third time then check yourself you are the problem.
#NoToDomesticViolenceAgainstOurWomen
#DontMarryForTheWrongReasons

..and note: my sister is married and doing wonderfully well. Ask for help if you need it.
