The sort of comments from some people on this thread is why Nigeria will remain static. The quality of education in Nigeria made sure that most people between the ages of 18-35, don't have an idea of what is really wrong. All they want to talk about is ethnic differences and the likes. Such a shame.

Excerpts from the article for the lazy readers...

It is important to note that the people of the South
West were not over-excited about the re-
emergence of Obasanjo. As a matter of fact, they
became his most ardent opponents. In anger,
Obasanjo turned his war against Yoruba leaders
like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Lagos State was
deprived of its statutory allocations, even after the
Supreme Court ruled in its favour. Interestingly,
the current Acting President, Professor Yemi
Osinbajo, was the Lagos State Attorney General
that fought spiritedly against the Federal
Government at the time. The lesson I wish to draw
from this is that, sometimes, it is better, and
safer, to fight a battle of wits than a duel of
brawn. The use of force can never guarantee a
meaningful victorious end.
Another example is Dr Goodluck Jonathan’s
emergence as President of Nigeria. When
President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s cabal was
going to stop him from acting as President in the
face of obvious incapacitation of the President,
some Yoruba leaders, including Professor Wole
Soyinka, Lt. General Alani Akinrinade, Bola Tinubu,
Pastor Tunde Bakare, Femi Falana, mobilised
other Nigerians to fight for the Nigerian
Constitution to be respected. Afterwards, it would
have been tougher for Jonathan to defeat
Muhammadu Buhari in 2011 but for the
superlative support he got from the South West.
The same Yoruba people may have felt
marginalised under Jonathan but only retaliated
with their votes in 2015. This principle should be
borrowed and adopted by other tribes of Nigeria.
Your greatest weapon is your vote and not how
many guns you can acquire and fire. The
calculated support for Buhari paid up handsomely
when Osinbajo became the Vice President of
Nigeria. Osinbajo is Acting President today
because of the principle laid and nurtured by the
Yoruba in 2010 when they supported an Ijawman
as Acting President. It has become almost
impossible for anyone to go against our
Constitution. The Igbos enjoyed no special
infrastructure privileges under Jonathan but had a
quasi-Prime Minister in Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
They threw their full weight behind him in 2015.
Unfortunately, Jonathan was sacked from power.
How do u fault this historical facts enumerated by Momodu?.

Re: What Exactly Are We Restructuring? - Dele Momodu by WOCKHARDI(m):
The North and their military leaders have been the main beneficiaries of Nzeogwu's blunder and Ironsi's Unitary Government mistake. And they keep blaming all the Igbos. Did the Igbos have a meeting to plan the coup of 1966? Never. It was purely a military affair. They removed Ironsi BUT built on his mistake. And here we are.
We must go back to the pre military era with the SIX GEOPOLITICAL ZONES as the federating units. With this, we still have ONE NIGERIA and, believe me, the agitation for Biafra and Niger Delta will cease.
Remember the Aburi Accord? It's time we revisit that document because if it was implemented, there would have been no Biafra! Yes?
We are still under Military rule through the Constitution they imposed on us which favours a section of the country more than the others.
Sir, don't you think that the Quota System is one area that needs serious restructuring?
When we restructure, we will have Biafra State, Oduduwa State, SS State ( or whatever they choose to answer), Arewa East , Central and West States as the six federal units. This is what obtains in the United STATES of America with their different identity names - like Florida, Michigan, Texas etc etc.
But the problem is : Will the present politicians like the governors and the legislators let go of their 'kingdoms' for the new structure?
Yes they can : By force .

Easy, Mr human being, we know you've read through everything, but one pertinent question on an issue that's causing so much heat these days: why do people of sw extraction get so incensed and pained about what other people want for themselves? Talking about a referendum, secession, resource control etc? I mean, what's in it for them?

Stupid Yoruba man, Igbo Igbo Igbo everywhere.
This Davido's boy has no shame.
What exactly is Yorubas' business with what Igbos want for themselves?
This coming from you,an Igbo man is not in any way surprising as I know it's impossible for you to decipher Dele's messages here. You are simply not intelligent.

As an emotional egotistic people,Igbo will continue to repeat their usual mistakes and will always look for a Yoruba to blame for it! Did you actually write 'what Igbo want for themselves'? That must be a big joke 'cause you guys don't know what you want! You're a confused set of people. Nigeria will not hand over anything to Igbo people on a platter of Gold; you must work for it,earn it and deserve it.

Dele Momodu is not bothered about what Igbo businesses are and by extension,Yoruba people don't care too. The point here, however is that Igbo will only have a headway in whatever interests they pursue the day they stop blaming Yoruba for their self-inflicted woes. All brawn and no brain, the bane of an Igbo man!

dele is indeed a boy.
how come an ordinary ewedu blocked his brain from knowing that the native lands which make up Nigeria are owned by people and he still asked who and who will be representatives.
if political parties can mobilise representatives from various quarters, why will he question the possibility of a genuine gathering aim at discussing terms and conditions for unity.
he was so blind not to have observed why politicians always visits ethnic barons during election because they knew that though those barons do not wield official powers, they control native sentiments which are most times the true yearning of the locals.
dele's brain needs fertilizer to grow up
Just assess your write up.Go and read it again. undecided

Do you know that El rufai was shouting for restructuring during GEJ time? Why is he now against it? They should restructure this country or let it divide
Re: What Exactly Are We Restructuring? - Dele Momodu by Lekeo: 12:01pm On Jul 02, 2017
Egbon Bob Dee, you have began a good conversation. In addition, the restructure of Nigeria is more about economics than political, if it's allowed to take it's proper course.
The real issues that need restructuring are namely, resource management at the local level, land use management at the local level, enforcement of terms of contracts at the local level, and finally the Independence of the local economies, with regional and national coordination. With all these come the political solutions.
If the truth be told, all "Nationalities" within Nigeria suffer the same plight, poverty.... poverty of the mind, resources and soul.
Now, how it should be implemented or achieved.
I believe an annual national referendum might be the solution, annual for the purpose of evaluating each decision and avoiding emotional decision like brexit.
And I would start with the mother of it all, should Nigeria be divided....let's take the bull by it's horn.
Next should be state of origin against state of residence. These are questions that should create a sense of belonging.
After these are agreed to, then let's go to management of resources and land...these are are issues...not the silliness of oduduwa republic, Area and Biafra....they are just whitewashes of the real issues, how can I feed myself, my family and be assured of the security of my/our properties, knowing everyone around have the same issues, so that we can have strong localities, which eventually forms a strong Nation.
And to the young people on social media, insulting people is not only childish, it's shows a serious poverty of your soul, not just the mind...you were created to be the best you can be, go for it and take life serious, don't blame others for your woes, and most importantly DON'T BE ANOTHER USED FOOLISH PERSON" [

I quite agree with Dele on the basis that many who are clamouring for restructuring really have no idea what it is about and it really is not and end to marginalization.
Neither is CONFAB report for the creation of extra states. We have failed to realise that unless we are able to change our mindset and see leadership as it is without being sentimental we shall always continue to complain of marginalization.
Restructuring is the way to go but it wouldn't end marginalization.
It is more in the economic perspective than political perspective... no current serving politician may agree to restructuring.... the current structure encourages laziness..

We need a system where states or regions control fully their own resources and run their economy without relying on the central govt..

states can produce their own electricity without centra innervation...other states can partner with such states in exchange for other services too.

We need a system that does not make FG so attractive in everything... we need a system that will do a way with quota system. We need a system that will allow me to protest against my govt without him telling me that the money coming from central govt has reduced..

I need a system that will allow the electorate to protest against a govt with another region feeling like the protest is against their own tribe..

we need total and complete state based or regional based controlled system..

You just nailed it my bro. Dele thinks we've not given a restructuring conscious thought; that we're just chanting the word to join the band wagon. Every single state in Nigeria, even the most corrupt state (except Bayelsa maybe) has performed way better than the FG govt over the last 16 yrs. Most states with their meagre income have taken over Federal roads, power plant construction, provision of infrastructure for security etc, and u begin to wonder what the Fed is for Except calling trillions on TV. The wage bill of the Fed is damm too much and unnecessary. Anything to give the state govt more powers is welcome in Nigeria. The Fed should be left to security, and international relations, and presiding only. If the power on the Presidency is lessen, no one would care if he came from daura or otuoke
I like your view. thumbs-up
