The Nigerian Military just took delivery of the first batch of assorted armored vehicles. The new delivery was reported on Twitter by current Managing Director of the Nigerian Port Authority Mrs Hadiza Bala Usman. According to Mrs Bala she tweeted that the armored vehicles were part of a large order of about one hundred and seventy seven (177) vehicles with different configurations which 40 has been delivered while the rest will arrive from Jordan before December.

She also said on Twitter that the armored vehicles were Mine protected which indicate that some Mine Resistant and Ambush Protected (MRAP) were among the mix delivered. Although no information concerning the purchase was ever released by the Nigerian Government or the Military but this is not surprising since the Nigerian Government or the military rarely provide information on its acquisition plans.

The Typhoon is a very good MRAP, but pretty sure the ARA Mrap will be better. Meanwhile there is another vehicle that I have noticed on ther youtube page the "hurricane" a big brother for MRAPs it will be very great having that not only for the army but also Police & MOPOL. Rusians are operating a similar vehicle called KAMAZ-63968 Typhoon-K MRAP https://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=Yqg07cZvEzE

Understand the point he is trying to make. Nigeria as a country should not be importing mundane things like LAVs and MRAPs. If tiny countries such as Jordan and the UAE are making this stuff, and we are importing from them, it is quite embarrassing.

Go through giles14 post & you will understand his angle

You of all people should know Why we still important LAV n MRAPs BC we had no foresight to build what we can & need.

Today we are making slow but steady progress in building a private sector & Govt run military industry.

Local MRAPs will come into service soon alongside other indigenous capabilities before the get operational
Our Govt has a duty to provide protection to troops in the North East that's exactly what we have done with the UAE MRAPs n tactical vehicles

Which is undeniable, commendable and nobody disputes this, even Giles14.

If you ask me to go through Giles14 older posts, what you are doing is making a comment based on a bias which you already have for Giles14.

Now, this is completely inappropriate as it would be bad to declare an individual guilty of a supposed crime even if that supposed crime hasn't even been committed in the first place.

His concerns are legitimate, and there was no ill-will or pointing of fingers in his posts.

Which type of AK ?

That's the AR-M1 assault rifle. A modernised version of the AK-74.

However unlike the AK-74, this weapon fires the 7.62mn round.

The army is beginning to replace most of it's older AKs with this.

It also comes in 5.56x45... which is the more modern round...

Incidentally its the same round fired by the R4.

Still much prefer the 7.62mm, we should have never gotten rid of the R1s.

Just to put into perspective a 5.56mm is a .22 caliber. You buy a .22 for your little one to get them used to shooting a firearm and for them to hunt little birdies, squirrels and bunnies.

A 7.62mm / .308 on the other hand can take down anything up to and including an elephant ( if the law allowed it).
