Reminder:

September 2015 Nigeria settles for the Mi-35M, [b]placing an order for 12
February 2016 Nigerians attend a Rooivalk demonstration in RSA,

- 2015, Nigeria decides to settle and buy the Mi-35M
- 2016, Nigerians are present in RSA for a Rooivalk demo, Rooivalk not actually being sold.

Can you please stop messing up this thread? Nigeria did not confirm mi-35m order until Ship House got reports from Nigerian military procurement team that inspected Roovalik flying in South Africa, it was reported that the equipment on the Roovalik were 10 to 20 year old backward technology, then Roovalik missile was fired and totally missed target as reported, that means it can kill innocent civilians by missing target, so NAF refused to pay $30 million for such bad things when 2017 latest technology equal to Russian air force was available on mi-35m hinde and the missiles are accurate when tested.

South African Roovalik company was desperate to grab the $360 million deal from NAF. It was very early 2016 the Roovalik was rejected and very late 2016 mi-35m order was signed for 12 helicopters, first 2 were paid for as allowed by 2016-17 budget. The man who made NAFs final decision based on sophistication of technology and effectiveness of guiding missiles was Air Marshal Abubakar a world class qualified war helicopter fighting pilot, the same man wearing dark glasses in pilots uniform below, not ignorant people like you dying of jealousy. Please let this matter rest.

ActivateKruger is really dull. He doesn't have knowledge of everything you just said and he still doesn't know the JF17 thunder Nigeria order will be using the Radar currently being tested. It outperform the Gripens radar.

Blah blah blah

We've been hearing about your fairytale JFs, by the time you fly them whatever there's in them would be dated, no longer cutting edge.

We have the ability to upgrade our Grips... You obviously don't know that.

Any idea why the NNPC gave them up ?
They called it review of operation philosophy, big words for simply cost cutting measures.
Those helos were not just handed over to NAF, they were sold(I stand to be corrected)

@ Algerian1, Why do Algerians celebrate weddings with risky gunshots?

I've watched videos of some wedding celebrations and it's really scary. I won't even stay close to someone rolling guns like sticks.

its very rare to use real gunshots in weddings , this old traditions still exist specially in rural areas and when they use it they use only black powder , but now days It has become rare !

a rural wedding exemple grin

Is there any reason why Nigeria doesn't pull their old migs out of storage and send them to China for refurbishment and maybe an upgrade to F7 standard? Despite what some people say the mig 21 is a good plane and would have use flying interdiction and ground support missions for the NAF. Also would be a nice force multiplier for the jf17.

I mean if they were to instantly be refurbished today the NAF would have around 40 fighter jets Even if they aren't top of the line 40 combat capable jets would deter any local nation and possibly dissuade any African nation from doing anything. Not to mention you could double the amount of ordinance dropped on Boko Haram.

You refer to 1980 story of 1970 mi24 hind old models that have been scrapped in Russia. Hind helicopter has improved for 40 years as technology changes. NAF flies current models 2017 mi-35 hinde not mi-24 old things. You can say 1970s Mercedes car is same tech and capacity as 2017 Mercedes car, then I will say common sense is not common. I think some people will have jealousy virus eating their brain cells just because NAF now has same new war helicopters as super power Russia

That was a relevant commentary. Don't involve me in your dee wagging-even if I were Naijjan or S African I 've too much dignity to get into such juvenile e fights!

Firstly the G load for the Gripen is +9/-4........ another thing your fanboy art doesn't mention is that the Gripen radar can see a 0.1m2 target at 120km, while the Junk Fighter radar can only spot a 3m2 target at 105km

Those mig 21are gone for good. Secondly, the cost of reactivating them is close to that of a new F7. Thirdly, China have stopped production of F7.

Mercs are dangerous! In Cote de Ivoire in 2004 France was looking for an excuse to declare war after landing in country itching for a fight with Gbagbo forces. The latter knew what Paris wanted and ensured his boys stayed in line. French Intel found a weak link-the Belarussian fly boys flying the Su was. They were massively bribed to bomb an FFL camp in the north.

Two days later, nine French soldiers (referred to in the mainstream media as “peacekeepers”) were killed by an air strike. This may well have been an accident; “Ivory Coast is not at war with France,” Gbago declares, “and gave no order to kill these French troops.”

Yes,France is really that tricky! Chirac personally ordered payback as Paris finally got their war and destroyed all 6 AF planes.

Hopeless liar.
The radar of gripen can detect objects with RCS of 5m2 at 120km while that of JF17 block 1 is 105km.

Even the typhoon won't see 0.1m2 object 120km away.

Tell us the radar on gripen is better than the one on typhoon, Rafael, F15 and even su 30.

This is common sense.

Gone as in sold or gone as in just in very bad condition? Hmm maybe locally try to get some flying again using parts scavenged off other airframes? Might be risky for the test pilot but if it works you are another step closer to developing in house air platforms. If those aircraft are just sitting in storage rotting away they are no use to anyone.

Algerian1:
the SAAF gripen C have the PS-05/A Mark 3 radar ??

Half of the Gripens have always been in storage and there was no hardware upgrade.

The PS-05/A Mk4 is the most recent development of the renowned PS-05/A radar, originally developed for the Gripen fighter. Through continuous spiral development it has maintained its position as one of the most competent fighter radars in the world.

A new hardware configuration with a complete new radar back-end gives significantly improved radar performance and operational range, enhances the Gripen Weapon System capabilities and offers full AMRAAM and Meteor integration. It also enables significant capability growth through software upgrades to successfully counter evolving threats in decades to come.

A new Air-to-Air mode has been implemented and demonstrated which takes full advantage of the signal processing capacity and the flexible waveform generation in PS-05/A Mk4. This mode increases acquisition range with 100% at low altitudes compared to previous version of PS- 05/A. This radar mode will also be useful for detection of targets with very low Radar Cross Section. The Meteor missile downlink is optimized to maintain radar performance during long-range data linking scenarios.

“The Mk4 is a world-class multifunction radar, with excellent ECCM performance, growth capability and with very low life cycle cost,” says Lars Tossman, Head of Airborne Surveillance Systems at Saab business area Electronic Defence Systems.

With the new Mk4 upgrade the PS-05/A will continue to improve operational capabilities for customers around the world. The PS-05/A Mk4 can be adapted to fit into most airborne platforms. Both compact and lightweight, this modular solution is ideal for integration with standard avionics technology systems and allows for installation on any multi-role combat aircraft, UAV, advanced jet trainer or other airborne platform.
