There was pandemonium on Tuesday in Osun, as some Staff and students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife, staged a violent protest at the premises of the State High Court, Ede.



The protest followed Justice David Oladimeji’s order that Prof. Anthony Elijoba, a former Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, and the bursar Mrs Aderonke Akeredolu be remanded at Ilesa Prison.



Lecturers, students and other categories of workers locked the gate of the court as the prison van escorted by heavily armed guards whisked Elujoba away.



They demanded the unconditional release of the former vice chancellor and threatened to occupy Ilesa Prison until Elujoba was released.



The angry workers locked the gate of the court premises; but armed policemen later forced opened the gate.


On July 7, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) arraigned Elujoba and the bursar, over alleged N1 billion fraud.



The two accused were arraigned on a seven count charge.



Elujoba was alleged to have paid workers allowances totaling about N1 billion which was not budgeted for.



The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the seven-count charge.



Their counsel, Mr Ibrahim Lawal, made an oral application for bail.



After listening to the bail application, Oladimeji ordered that the two accused be remanded in Ilesha prison pending the ruling on their bail application.



He adjourned the case until July 19.



As the judge rose after his ruling, several workers, who were displeased with the ruling, staged angry protest in the court premises before the accused were whisked away.

Whereas there is just provocation, I QUESTION EXACTLY WHAT A"VIOLENT PROTEST"
is supposed to ACHIEVE.



WHAT, about the situation, COULD that CHANGE?

HOW DOES THAT WORK?

Of what BENEFIT could THAT possibly BE?

If ARRESTED and CHARGED, what POSSIBLE DEFENSE could there BE?

I presume that this is merely poor English, and what they actually SAID was that they were going to occupy THE ENNVIONS of the Prison, on the OUTSIDE, rather than the INSIDE?

The normal response of Armed Police is to use the Arms.

WHY ARE WE NOT BEING TOLD WHAT THESE SEVEN CHARGES ARE?

NO ONE CAN DENY that Professor Elujoba paid this money out of University funds under his control. The question is:

HOW WAS THAT A CRIME?

It makes NO sense!

THIS is where KNOWING THE SPECIFIC CHARGES would be GOOD JOURNALISM!

The way I heard it, the day before yesterday, is that the CAUSE of the OUTRAGE is that, whereas the case was ADJOURNED until July 19^th 2017, THE JUDGES ARE RECESSING on July 17^th 2017.

I should like to know how that was learned IN TIME TO CAUUSE TROUBLE.

I suspect that this whole situation is ORCHESTRATED.
