''Here'' Nate said to Jane, handing her a cup of tea that he made for her.

''Thanks'' she murmured and collected it.

He sank into the chair beside hers.
The day had been a hectic one for him, when Mrs Theresa was about being laid to rest, it had been drama, as Jane almost jumped into the open grave, it took three men including him to hold her back.

After the casket was lowered into ground and Jane started wailing he had no choice but to take her away from the cemetry, not minding the questions from people as to why he won't let her stay till the end for her own mother's burial.

Finally, he was able to get her to the car, single handedly, It wasn't easy but he did it.
He didn't even get the chance to regain his strength, he drove off immediately he saw Benjamin coming towards them and that had given him so much pleasure.

''Can I sleep over here? I can't possibly leave you alone in this house''

''Princess and Benjamin will soon be back'' she replied tiredly.

Benjamin? He didn't like the sound of that but had no choice, he needed to go home, he was supposed to be at home celebrating his birthday with friends and family especially his best friend; K.C, who happens to share the same birth-date with him, Instead he spent the day in a cemetry, not that he regreted it, infact he didn't mind being anywhere as long as he's with Jane, his only worry, is that by now his mum would still be up, waiting for him to return and he wasn't with his phone, he had switched it off and left it at home, knowing fully well, that people would be calling to wish him a happy birthday.

He looked at the clock; 8:15PM and he wondered what was keeping Princess and the so-called sweetheart.

As if on cue, a car honked outside the compound.

''They are back''

''Alright, take care, I will be here tomorrow to check on you'' he said to her.

''Thanks''

He walked closer and gave her a peck before hurrying out, he didn't want another encounter with Benjamin.

He got lucky, because as soon as he got into his car, Benjamin came out of his and he didn't wait for any kind of talk, he only honked and drove off.


Just as expected, he got home and his mum was in the sitting room waiting for him.

''Mum, you should have gone to bed'' he said, immediately he saw her.

''I was waiting for you'' she replied and yawned

''Mum, I'm not a kid, you need to stop doing this'' he replied holding her arms and helping her get up from the chair.

''You're still my kid'' she said to him and he grimaced.

''Alright, I agree, just go to bed, daddy won't be happy with me, if he finds out I made you stay up this late at night''

''Oh! You're dad is back from his trip'' His mum said and he tensed, he knew he had lots of questions to answer to.

''Why did he return so soon?'' Nate asked, sincerely he wasn't happy that his dad had choosen this particular day to return from his never-ending trips.

''He came to celebrate your birthday with you and you were nowhere to be found'' His mum said, frowning.

''I'm sorry mum, I went for the burial of the mum of one of my close friend''

''Burial?'' she asked, surprised.

''yes...''

Before he could say another word, he heard his dad asking if it's him and he quickly released his mum's arm and hurried off to his room.

He's dad was and still is a control freak, he didn't want another question and answer session with him, atleast not tonight.

K.C had just gotten off the phone; Nate had called him to wish him a happy birthday and also give him excuses for not caling earlier, it was understandable, atleast he called, Ken didn't even call.


He was about going to the bathroom to have a bath so he could go to bed, when his phone started to ring.

He hurried to it, thinking it's Nate or Dami but was disappointed when he saw 'Maryann' on the screen.

''Hello'' he answered.

''Happy Birthday'' Maryann said to him.

''For your information, it's almost 10PM here, so why did you call by this time'' he asked, knowing he was stepping on the Lion's tail.

''I know, I just called to remind you that you're the oldest bachelor on earth'' she replied laughing.

''And you? The oldest spinster, your twin sister is about getting married, her introduction is in two weeks and you don't even have a boyfriend talk more of getting married to one'' he threw at her and smiled inwardly, it usually feels good to pay her back in her own coins.

''Your twin sister has three kids and some of your mates have 6 kids'' she informed him and he hissed.

''Maryann, please I'm feeling sleepy already''

''Okay, well, I just called to tell you that Mary and I, will be coming back a week from now and you must be at home on that day''

''Must? I will come if you ask politely''

She hissed and hung up.

''Witch'' he muttered and was about dropping his phone when he saw a text message; from an unknown number, he reluctantly opened the text while yawning.

He flinched, when he saw the text, which read;
