The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has rejected the call to implement the 2014 National Conference report describing it as undemocratic. There has been call for the country to adopt the report of the conference held during the administration of former president, Goodluck Jonathan but the ACF has insisted that it will not support its implementation. This decision was reached after the National Executive Council meeting of the apex northern group on Wednesday, July 12.In a communique released after the meeting, the group explained that to the federal government that its reason for rejecting the confab report was in the interest of the country. It said: "The opposition of the North to the implementation of the recommendations in report of 2014 National Conference is not so much because of any legal consideration as to its legitimacy, but also because the selection of the conference delegates was skewed against the North in number considering its population.“ For emphasis, there are contentious issues like the abolishment of the present local government councils, creation of 18 additional states that were not resolved in accordance with due process of the conference proceedings.“ACF, therefore, is of the opinion that it would be morally preposterous and anti-democratic for anybody or group to canvass for the implementation of the reports by a conference of unelected delegates. This is more so by the elected government which did not participate in the conference and its recommendations were not part of the manifesto of the ruling party.” The group also wade into the rift between the executive and the National Assembly saying these issues are avoidable.“ACF has observed with deep concern the continued altercations between the Executive arm of government and the National Assembly, in particular the Senate, over interpretations of certain sections of the Constitution regarding confirmation of appointments of public officers and other contentious issues. These kinds of disagreements are avoidable precisely because they are not helpful for good governance.“ACF, therefore, urges the parties concerned to amicably resolve their differences in the interest of Nigeria, or better still, approach the Supreme Court and seek the correct interpretation of the relevant sections of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended in order to avoid future occurrences of the present situation.” Concerning the issue of restructuring, the group said it has not been properly defined as it means different things to different parts of the country. It has observed with keen interest the current nationwide debate on the term “Restructuring” of the country as being canvassed by some people, groups and even prominent citizens. The term, however, means different things to different people or groups. To some, it is “true federalism” whatever that means, for others it is “fiscal federalism”, while some group tout “resource control”. Yet we have those for “resource ownership”.“ ACF notes with regret that those clamouring or demanding for the so-called restructuring are yet to define what they actually mean by the concept and its application in our present democratic setting. In most cases, the meaning depends on which section of the country or the person advocating for it comes from. It is, therefore, the considered view of the ACF that any acceptable restructuring meant to improve the unity, stability, harmony and peaceful coexistence must be based on just, fair and equitable principles to all Nigerians that come with clarity of definition.” |

The refusal of the Hausa Fulani people to accept a Restructured Nigeria will lead to the end of Nigeria The Hausa Fulani people are thinking like the Egyptians who never wanted to see a change in status quo until the Jewish God intervened and destroy the Egyptians Mark my words A time is coming when the Hausa Fulani people will beg for Restructuring and will be told that it is too late Dialogue Now Restructure Now or Nigeria will die |

Where are the red cap thieves (Ohaneze) and the bribe-taking NADECO officials(Afenifere). They should come and bark once again as their masters have rejected their request. Nnamdi kanu made it clear that the North will never be party to restructuring hence his to seek referendum instead of restructuring. |

North will never accept that report because that report has given back what belong to the right owners in Nigeria's resources and without it, they are gone and yet, they don't want disintegration. Very selfish and self-centered people. |

I keep telling people shouting 'restructuring' that it will never happen. The core North is the greatest beneficiary of the status quo. They would rather die than give in to changing it.Check the numbers of L.G.As in the North compared to those in the south. The population figure of the North(for instance Kano is more 'populous' than Lagos). The number of legislators from the North etc. Unfortunately to change the constitution the motion needs to be passed into law by majority of the legislators. As long as resources are shared according to population density and number of L.G.As,the north would never agree to restructuring. Good luck to the proponents of restructuring, but the North I know would rather secede than give in to restructuring. |

I hope those that are shouting restructuring as if it's come and get am can see this. The true owners of Nigeria have spoken and there is nothing anybody can do about it. You can shout from now till thy kingdom come, it can never happen. As for me and my family its Biafra or no election. |

Arewa intransigence will lead to the break-up of Nigeria. Re-structuring means that Nigeria will force herself to re-examine the Nigerian story which has been deliberately altered and suppressed. The source of the grievances has to be examined and tackled head on. Nigeria will have to confront the skeletons in the closet if we are to truly have reconciliation and forge a real union. Anything short of that, there'll be no unity, no peace and only a very fragile truce. |

The north cannot be allowed to continue to hold the entire country to ransom. We must go ahead and restructure the country. Afterall, nobody is talking about managing the affairs of northerners for them. People just want a say in managing their regions and it's resources. |

Sometimes people say what are the Ipob youths agitating for? Most of them weren't even born during the Biafran war. What do they want? Nigeria does not understand one fundamental reality. The average Biafran youth otherwise labelled as a "miscreant' has grown up feeling like second class citizen in their own country. They are not really fixated in the past. Non-violent protest for self-determination is not terrorism. They are asking Nigeria: "What is our future"? This is a question Nigeria does not want to answer. They are more concerned about looting currently. When Nigeria answers the question, the looting will end. |

What is restructuring without resource control? From the above it's obvious the ACF scoffs at this particular idea, hence "...while some group 'tout' resource control." For me resource control is the way to entrench true federalism. Who is afraid of that? North, I guess. |

These people tjat are wasting their saliva shouting restructuring when they know that the North will allow one inch of Nigeria to be restructured. That same constitution that will not allow Biafra also will not allow restructuring. |

Amarabae:Lol...So, because the SW voted for Buhari in 2015, they have become their usual ally abi? Some of you are just too emotional. The Igbos have aligned more with the North than the SW, starting with the first republic. The last election was the only time the SW have aligned with them. The major political difference between the SW and SE is just because of their different dispositions to the entity called Nigeria. These differences are what many people like you are blowing out of proportion to call the SW people names. |
