The co-ordinator of the Independent People Of Biafra in Festac, Basil Okey Onuoha has solicited with the Igbos in Amuwo Odofin local government communities to please support a labour party candidate Mr Izu Nwankwo,

He said, Izu has been a massive supporter of the struggle financially and otherwise, According to him, The supreme leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has always pleaded and told Igbos never to vote for APC anywhere, he stated that since IPOB is not a political party and Lagos belongs to the yorubas. Yes we have said NO-REFERENDUM, NO ELECTIONS, but that's in Biafraland. We can not come to a strangers land and give orders because they willfully accommodated us. So if you have your voters card, come out and vote. And If you are in Amuwo-Odofin, Please vote Our brother Izu Nwankwo and yoruba colleague

They have allowed us to be part of their politics because of our population here, we have to appreciate it. then we have to use it well to benefit both the landlords and the tenants. We have to play huge role in order to capably protect the igbo interest in Lagos, Our lives and properties.

Another IPOB executive in Festac, Mr Thomas Nwede when questioned on why should even contest in lagos said, Ndi Igbo have no conflict with anybody living in Lagos, Infact, the yoruba nation has become more accommodating for Ndigbo all over Nigeria. Biafra is a divine Nation and we will soon recieve our divine mandate to get our sovereign nation but while we work towards that, we have to be calculated politically. I know Izuchukwu too well, He has single handedly done alot for Ndigbo in lagos especially the importers in Alaba and Ladipo. He is a good man and knows his onion well. Supporting him and his colleague would be strategic for Ndigbo in Amuwo-Odofin.

Izu Nwankwo is an Igbo man fro Anambra contesting for the vice-chairman Amuwo-Odofin LGA. He was born in lagos, attending both his secondary school and University in lagos. He has the labour party ticket with a yoruba man Jamiu Ibrahim.

The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has claimed that Lagos State is not part of Yoruba land.

Akiolu’s statement is coming barely a week after he publicly humiliated the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi at an event.


In a statement from Akiolu’s palace, the monarch traced the historical background of the state and why it should not be regarded as part of Yoruba land.

The statement reads: “Coming from the palace, with what I was told by my late paternal grandmother who is a descendant of Oba Ovonramwen Nogbaisi and also reading from factual Historical books, let me share this Knowledge with you all on Eko/Lagos.

“Modern day Lagos was founded by Prince Ado, the son of the Oba of Benin, Prince Ado was the first Oba of Lagos, the son of the Bini King, Prince Ado, named the town Eko until the Portuguese explorer Ruy de Segueira changed the Maritime town to Lagos, which at that time from 1942 was Portuguese expedition center down the African Coast.
