According to a report published by CNN, Ethiopia now stand
tall as the country with the fastest growing economy in Africa.
Report:
Ethiopia, Africa's second most populated country, is
forecast to be the fastest growing economy in Sub-Saharan
Africa this year, according to new data from the IMF .
Ethiopia's economy is predicted to grow by 8.5% this year.
The figures signal continued economic expansion following a
long period of impressive growth. In the last decade, Ethiopia
has averaged around 10% economic growth, according to the
IMF.
To boost the economy, the country is pursuing a number of
large-scale infrastructure projects, including the Grand
Renaissance Dam and a railway network.
"(Ethiopia) has had a very high growth rate and I think that's
a result in large part of a very concentrated effort by the
government to boost industrial production and
manufacturing," said Vijaya Ramachandran, an economist at
the American think tank Center for Global Development (CGD).
Ramachandran, along with three academics, released a report
suggesting Ethiopia can follow in China's footsteps, and
become a destination for low-wage manufacturing jobs.

We don't have oil, we are land locked but we are still growing because we are trying to use what we have in a proper way. If we had united, we could expect better. Africa has a lot of resources but one thing we didn't understand is that 'it is not about what we have but what we can do with what we have.' Everyone now has a stupid opinion on nairaland. I have been to Ethiopia on several occasions and that country can't even be compared to Anambra in terms of business activities. Most of their imports are from China with no meaningful industry around. The best hotels are Hilton and Sheraton which are nothing but crap; the country's source of revenue is Ethiopia airline but nobody will tell you the regime is the most repressive in Africa with zero tolerance for government opposition. As usual since everybody wants to blame Buhari and praise Jonathan, hence we jump at every nonsense thrown at us. Need I remind you, a hundred dollars is about 3000 Birr which is more useless compared to your 36000 naira and they have just one telecommunication company  Yes inflation, joblessness, lack of infrastructures and poor human right record are also high in Ethiopia! 1 Like |

Bluetooth2: When last did u visit Ethiopia because I could remember they commissioned a national railway system there 3 to 4 years ago which is top notch and our country is still struggling with a steam engines for ages now that's underdevelopment on our part and theirs is in the development stage. |
