PRESS RELEASE BOKO HARAM...43 SURRENDERED INSURGENTS AIR LIFTED FOR DE-RADICALIZATION Forty three Boko Haram insurgents who recently surrendered to troops of Operation Lafiya Dole were on Saturday air lifted to join other surrendered insurgents in Gombe where they are to immediately commence a de-radicalization and rehabilitation programme under the auspices of Operation Safe Corridor. Speaking while handing over the surrendered insurgents to Operation Safe Corridor, the Theatre Commander Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru gave assurance that the penitent insurgents will be given a new lease of life as they commence their journey back into the civil society through the de-radicalization and rehabilitation processes. He urged them further to embrace and undertake the programme whole heartedly to enable them benefit and positively reorient their views about life and the society in general. It will be recalled that over 70 Boko Haram insurgents had earlier in this month, surrendered to troops of Operation Lafiya Dole in the North East, thus, taking advantage of the window of grace provided by the Federal Government for insurgents who are willing to give up terrorism and turn a new leaf to surrender to any military location closest to them. General Attahiru called on all other insurgents to abandon the futile struggle and reject the hypocrisy of the Boko Haram leadership who live in affluence, while their foot soldiers die in hunger. You are please requested to disseminate this information to the general public through your news media. Thank you for your untiring cooperation. Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu Deputy Director Public Relations Theatre Command

Odunayaw:The Selous scouts were utilised for special operations with direct action making up a small percentage for their ops. The type of ops the 72nd is used for is similar to the Rhodesian light infantry. But that doesn't change their designation. |

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE DEEPLY REGRETS RANN BOMBING INCIDENT Sequel to the official statement by the Defence Headquarters on the unfortunate Rann bombing incident on 17 January 2017, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), being the Service directly involved in the incident, would once more like to convey its deepest regrets to all concerned. It is important to reiterate that no NAF pilot leaves his base with the intention of going to kill the same set of people that he greatly sacrifices day and night to protect. The unfortunate bombing of innocent civilians in Rann, Borno State has, therefore, remained a traumatic incident for the NAF pilots involved and indeed, the entire NAF Community. The NAF and other stakeholders are already taking necessary measures to prevent a recurrence of the unfortunate incident. For instance, they are engaging humanitarian organizations in the North East with a view to understanding their programmes and locations of such programmes in order to prevent gaps in communication. Meanwhile, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has directed appropriate NAF officials to intensify humanitarian intervention schemes for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at Rann and other parts of the North East. For example, there is an ongoing NAF medical outreach programme during which over 164 IDPs from various IDP Camps in Borno State have undergone free surgical operations in the NAF medical facility in Maiduguri. The programme is still ongoing and is scheduled to last for another 3 days. The NAF solicits the understanding and support of all Nigerians and members of the International Community regarding the tragic incident. More importantly, the NAF again extends its most sincere condolences to all the families of the victims of the incident. The NAF assures the general public that it remains resolute in its task of preserving the territorial integrity of Nigeria and ensuring the security of all Nigerians. AFMS GRADUATION: CAS CHARGES JUNIOR AIRMEN TO UPHOLD NAF STANDARDS The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar has charged the newly graduated junior airmen of Air Force Military School (AFMS), Jos to continue upholding the ethics and traditions of the NAF. The CAS stated this during the 32nd Passing Out Parade (POP) of junior airmen held on Saturday, 22 July 2017 in Jos. Represented by the Chief of Administration, Air Vice Marshal Lawal Alao, the CAS said the training acquired by the graduands would go a long way in building their capacity to contribute more meaningfully to the development of the NAF and the country at large. According to him, "you must consolidate on the training you have acquired and develop yourselves for productive service in the NAF and be worthy ambassadors of the Service any where you may find yourselves”. The CAS reiterated the NAF’s commitment to supporting the School, noting that the School had contributed immensely to meeting the manpower requirements of the Service. While congratulating the graduands, the CAS charged them to be loyal, dedicated and ready to contribute their quota to the overall development of the Service. The three-day event, which commenced with the speech and price giving day, beating of the retreat and the passing out parade, was well attended by eminent personalities. One hundred and thirteen junior airmen passed out at the event. The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of gifts to some graduating students who distinguished themselves in various subjects. The AFMS was established by the NAF in 1980 with the aim of providing both normal secondary school education and military training to Nigerian boys less than 17 years of age in preparation for future leadership roles.
