This thread is one that I just was inspired to write. When we look around Christianity. We see differing view about what Baptism of the Holy Spirit is. Please do not comment as though you have experienced the baptism. Your questions about this subject are welcome and peradventure you are interested in the baptism, kindly follow or mention one of the names below in the comment section.

We advise that you do not give a misguided view about what you feel the subject should be about. Thanks

P.S. I said testimony not assumption. Thanks

Scriptural reference for personal research

First, you need to understand God promised the disciples the baptism, evidently all Christians. So, the moment you are born again, you have every right to partake of this glorious inheritance.

These verses gives us a picture of it in the old testament Exodus 11:24-27, 1 samuel 19:18-24 and Joel2:28-31

These verses shows us what's Gods promise to them who would believe. Matthew 3:11,

John 14:26-(note this words in this verses- teach you all things-future past and present; bring all things to your remembrance-past ),

John 16:13(guide you into all truth-present, past and future; show you things to come-futurisitic).

Other verses are Acts 1:5, Acts1:8,

Biblical ways to receive the baptism

Acts 2:2-4(they received it while praying),

Acts 8:14-17(laying of hands) notice they have been baptised yet not one single of those that did water baptism received the baptism until the coming of Peter and John v12-13, and v16

Acts 10:44-48(they received it) notice they have not done water baptism v47-48

Acts 19:1-7(laying on of hand, note they were evangelist, evidently born again, but yet they were not endewed yet. They preached John the Baptist: they were baptised by water yet they do not have this experience)

For more references see Romans 8:26-27, Jude 1:20, lemme shock you, do you know the Holy Spirit through Paul commands that we should not forbid to speak in tongues-1 corin 14:39, now here is my problem with many people, they say all sort of thing, this and that, now, if I asked nicely, if you were interested and you feel I was forcing you to say some gibberish that I mutter to you and you mutter the same back to me, then you know its fake, but if you happen to speak it as the spirit direct or gives you utterance, then, you know this thing is real.

At least, Paul said, I speak in tongues more than ye all. All of those tongues couldn't be in the church, and also, if you were in the church, all we want is, do not disturb with your tongue, let it be between you and God. So evidently, if someone happen to teach you those tongues, then, you can pull back immediately, they leave. And by the way, how would you know you are speaking in tongue when there is no one to guide you.

This happened in 1993/1994 in powerline bible church aguda... as far as i can remember, i was in a group of people seeking the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

We were instructed not to be silent but speak out when hands when laid on us.

When hands were laid on me, i felt words coming out from within me...but i being shy, hesitated to speak. The person who ministered to me urged me to speak, so i began saying: obaobaobaobaoba.....from there i graduated to more words in tongues.

The baptism of the Holy Ghost is meant to empower you to evangelise, win souls, work miracles, serve God effectively, overcome satan, and live like Jesus did on earth wink

okay sir. Please include your view before the experience. I mean your [b]skeptical view before the experience,[\b] cause this is like healing school bro, I call it casting down imaginations. I hear people say presumptive things about the topic but they seeing so many different view would change some

Judedwriter. Sir would you like to share how you use to feel when you started praying like aromas or coldness or anything of such and can you trace such happening(aroma, coldness etc to your physical environment probably the aroma was as a result of the fact you are with friend who sprayed some perfume or probably you just have this flower vase closeby or probably it was hammattan. My Background: I was born and raised up in a White Garment Church which means all my parents including Grand-fathers/mothers are all White Garment Member. Back then I've witnessed how someone in the spirit does act and perform different miracles but to me THEN it's nonsense or I count it as nothing just as some people see it as gebrish today.

How I was Baptized by Holy Spirit: On that fateful day around 12:00AM, I was alone in my room and I was praying and my door was locked. Suddenly, I begin to feel the presence of a PERSON in my room walking towards me with a kind of FORCE (mind you my door was locked and no sound of any door opened). So as the Person is moving closed to me I started speaking in tongue but as something I'm experienced for the first time, I got scared and I stood up. I know that someone entered my room and I speak in tongue this keeps me perplexed for a whole night. This event happened after I finished my secondary school and I left my home town also worshipping in another Church.

This same thing happened 3years later the same way but I didn't scared that much this time. I can't narrate the whole experience here but I was baptised with Holy spirit twice without anybody laying hand on me.

NOTE: The reason why I started with my background is to let you know that I was once among those people who didn't believe in speaking in tongues despite the fact that I see it happened with even miracles but as God's grace found me, Holy spirit visited me by Himself to strengthen my faith because if not for those two visit I might be among those jumping from one thread to another today to abuse God and argue about His nonexistence.

Its just like a baby that is first speaking...he or she first makes some funny sounds like "dada". But with time the baby talks more fluently.

I have grown much in other tongues since that fateful day. I speak more fluently now.

But i notice when i pray for sometime in my understanding and i want to back it up with tongues; i speak more different tongues than i usually do normally. And sometimes faster.

The only aroma i feel when i pray in tongues is that of the sweet Holy Spirit!
The longer one prays in tongues, the stronger God's manifested presence on parts of your body.

I guess you never take time to study about Baptism.

Baptism simply means "to immerse in".

So if the Holy spirit visited you and empowered you to speak in tongue hundred times you're simply being immersed in the Holy spirit hundred times.

I got filled with the Holy Ghost during my undergraduate days.

I desired that and told my Pastor, I met him later and got filled.

Initially, tongues will flow in short words but with time, if consistently engaged, one grows into prolonged and heavy use. The same principle that applies for human vocabulary.

Prior to being filled, it was quite easy to judge/criticize people but knowledge came with maturity.

All believers ought to be filled with the Holy Ghost.
The person of the Holy Ghost is a gift to the entire body of Christ.
It is not a function of struggles but right living and right believing. Errors need to be corrected too.

I believe it is easier and more profitable to pray in tongues (in the Spirit) than with understanding.

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 8:27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

1 Corinthians 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

I strongly believe in the Teaching and Impartation Ministry.

All believers can be filled with the Holy Ghost with the initial evidence of tongues because we live in the days of the fulfillment of Joel's prophecy!

Jiggaz, where are you, I love the boldness by which this man speak. You could tell that he has been with Jesus. I can't explain it, but I know it.

Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

I can't remember vividly, but he told me to "Receive".

and No, I was not told what to say, I didn't repeat anything.

The Spirit gave the utterance and I did the speaking. The flow comes by faith as you release your tongue.

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Processes and experiences may differ, but the result will always be the same as long as it is built upon Acts 2:4 (above) and Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

No fake baptism of the Holy Ghost, if it is the Holy Ghost baptism you asked for then that is what you will get. Sometimes, people may be scared of getting fake but there's no fake.

Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

People can only feign to have received while they have not.

Like I mentioned earlier, tongues is the initial evidence. With time comes power (the ability to do) according to Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Also, one who is filled will start manifesting Christlike attributes, if diligent. Acts 11 explains this.

People who feel the need to wait long simply need to be taught. Teachers according to Eph 4:11 have this responsibility.
Paul, Cornelius' household and present day examples prove that we can filled once/immediately the desire is there. (of course, Born Again).

All I did was review some former threads that were related to this thread, bring those who had a genuine experience, bring them together to contribute on this thread. Like I said, its research, little here, little there and all you do is Ctrl P and voila, we have a project.

Let me smile before I type anything cheesy

So, I came across this thread few minutes ago. Reading or hearing beautiful things about the Holy Spirit excites me.

Lemme share mine

We had a youth camping program in church. At that time, a pair of my leg was in sin while the other half wasn't even fully in Christ. I didn't want to attend the camping program but I was urged to. The pastor in charge for the night vigil said he heard the Lord's voice to conduct a Holy Spirit baptism service. That was how we started singing and praying for the Holy Spirit to come oo. A lot of them prayed violently and seriously but me, being an extremely shy person was just doing my own 'give the Lord a wiper' kind of prayer.

After few minutes, almost everyone around me was affected - speaking in tongues, screaming, confessing their sins but me just stood there oo, marveled. I was a little bit sad that God didn't touch me, so I thought speaking in tongues wasn't necessary. My tongue was touched and the pastor's son shouting "speak, speak". I just raised my mouth up waiting for whatever would make me speak in tongues but something happened. I fell to the ground and started confessing my sins, calling Jesus to save me. It didn't stop me from putting on the old man anyway.

2nd encounter

I can't remember vividly but I think it was a vigil too. We were praying for our inner man to receive power and fire. Some people manifested but I was unshakened. I got home and started praying the same prayer and I started shaking. I began to speak in a language I didn't understand. I spoke in tongues!

I was the youth president of this church-name withheld. They had this praise night and a guy was filled during the service and whenever we have the move of God and this guy is under the anointing. I would go up and minister prayers. I always ask myself, this people watching desire this thing, but through your post(bolded). I understand what happened back then.

Faith is better when we hear from God. Like my Father in the Lord would say, Provision is for vision.

#Jesus

I was an anglican, I so much loved God. Took holy communion, never saw the reason to read the Bible, I have this catholic bible which I love reading the commentaries t the side of the Bible. It all went like that. I was thought that was all to Christianity.

I was living this unsatisfactory life. I always don't like going to church on sunday, after all the tears and appeal to God that this would be the last time such wrong would repeat itself. It kept happening like that, constantly begging God for yet one more chance with all sincerity.

I still was not faithful to my countless request for one last chance, until I felt, well, I should have used up my chances. I was admitted to a popular university in Nigeria where I met thid friend who told me it was cool to listen to hip hop and worldly raps and still be saved. He sugar talked it away, and I took to many worldly songs.

There are times I would delete and collect whenever I come across him and he tells me how a particular musician killed a new song, then, I say to myself, just this one song and I would delete it, having listened to it
