But there are FEW Nigerians who KNOW a lot about the various Tribes and their strengths and who CANNOT be deceived by yoloba lies. I am one of such Nigerians. First, if a company goes public and sells 10% of its shareholdings for billions of naira, why he still retain 90% , how does the 10% wrest ownership from him.You guys just run with incomplete data and draw conclusions with them, leading to hare brain ideas.

You are a complete illiterate. I should not waste my time explaining how the worth of companies and the total share units are calculated. Your illiteracy smells.

Meet The 35 Year-Old Entrepreneur Who Owns Nigeria's 2nd Largest Rice Farm

Rotimi Williams, a former journalist, is the owner of Kereksuk Rice Farm

Nigerians consume more than 5 million metric tons of rice every year, with a significant portion of its consumption needs sourced from imports. Rotimi Williams, an ambitious 35 year-old Nigerian entrepreneur and rice farmer, is on a quest to change that.

Williams, a former journalist, is the owner of Kereksuk Rice Farm, the second largest commercial rice farm in Nigeria by land size. His farm, which is situated in Nasarawa state in northern Nigeria, currently sits on 45,000 hectares and employs more than 600 natives of Nasarawa.

I recently caught up with the budding entrepreneur in Lagos, and had a brief chat with him where he recounted his journey and mused on how Nigeria can attain self-sufficiency in rice production in the near future.

What’s your educational and professional background?

I attended King’s College in Lagos. After attending secondary school at King’s College I proceeded to obtain my first degree at University of Aberdeen where I graduated with a degree in Economics. I also obtained a Master’s Degree in Economics from the same institution. My quest for more knowledge led me to enroll for yet another Master’s Degree at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London where I gained an MSc. in Finance and Development Studies.

Upon graduation, I landed a role as an analyst at the European Economics and Financial Centre in London. Afterwards, Euromoney Magazine employed me, where I covered the African space.

I would say that this is where my journey truly started.

While at Euromoney, I had the opportunity to travel around a few African countries. These trips exposed me to countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, South Africa, Zambia and Ghana. A common thread amongst the aforementioned nations is agriculture. Agriculture is at the very core of these countries and this got me thinking. After a few more trips, I decided to move back to Nigeria and sink my teeth into the agricultural space. Nigeria remains the largest economy in Africa from both a GDP perspective and also the strength of the size of our population.

Upon my arrival back in Nigeria, I got a job at a premier bank where I was promised to sit on the agriculture desk – my hope was that I would gain enough knowledge of the Nigerian agricultural industry and develop myself from there.

Two years had past and we still had no funds, so I made an offer to the farm owner, that with a 50-50 split, I would develop the farm with both personal funds and external funding. He agreed and that's how I became part owner of 17,296 hectares of farmland. Knowing that agriculture would become the integral area of focus in Nigeria, I was bullish and ramped up the land to 55,000 hectares. I later parted with my partner as a result of unaligned views and strategy. I maintained 45,000 hectares for myself and today we have started producing, with our quality paddy being sold to major milling companies in Nigeria. However, I must add the following, I often have people ask how I learned abut farming, as everyone thinks you need a special degree in agriculture to be a farmer, but I always tell them the truth, I learnt it all on Google GOOGL -2.94%. I downloaded every article I could find on rice production, consumed it and then practiced it in the fields.

Frankly, my experience working alongside indigenes [natives] of Nasarawa state has been exceptional. I have learnt over the years that if you approach people with respect even more so while one seeks to set up a business venture. Having a healthy sense of community makes all the difference in attaining one’s set objectives. I lean heavily on the wisdom and cultural approach of the indigenes to carry out farming on such a scale here in Nasarawa.

This is massively HUGE

A round of applause to this Yoruba brother.

Kase Lawal
Chairman/Chief Executive Officer CAMAC Holdings
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Erin Energy Corporation
Chairman of Allied Energy Corporation in Houston, Texas
Vice chairman, Port of Houston Authority Commission

Kase Lukman Lawal (born June 30, 1954)is a Nigerian-born businessman who lives and works in the United States.

Lawal was born June 30, 1954 in Ibadan. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Texas Southern University in 1976, and his MBA from Prairie View A&M University, Texas in 1978. He is the chairman and chief executive officer of CAMAC International Corporation, chairman and chief executive officer of Erin Energy Corporation, and chairman of Allied Energy Corporation in Houston, Texas, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, CAMAC HOLDINGS; vice chairman, Port of Houston Authority Commission. He also serves as a member of the board of directors and is a significant shareholder in Unity National Bank, the only federally insured and licensed African-American-owned bank in Texas. Lawal was a member of the National Republican Congressional Committee's Business Advisory Council and, in 1994, he was a finalist for the United States Business Entrepreneur of the Year. Lawal is a member of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity.

CNN: Nigerian-born entrepreneur Kase Lawal is the epitome of the American dream. Arriving to the US a young, idealistic student, Lawal has carved a name for himself in one of the most competitive industries in the world: Oil.
Now head of a multi-billion dollar empire, his Houston-based company, CAMAC, is one of the largest black-owned businesses in the U.S., generating over $2 billion dollars a year.
Founded nearly 25 years ago, Lawal built CAMAC from a small agriculture business into a global oil company. But it's taken a lot of hard work, determination and guts to get him to the top.
Born and raised in Ibadan, Nigeria in 1954, Lawal became interested in America and its civil rights movement during his teens. After finally persuading his father, a local politician, to send him to university in America, Lawal headed to Georgia and then Houston, where he attended the Texas Southern University.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering in 1976, Lawal, like many of his classmates, started out as a graduate in the energy industry. First as a chemist for Dresser Industries (now Halliburton) and then as a chemical engineer with Shell Oil Refining Co.

During this time he met his wife, Eileen through a mutual friend and had his three children.
Now married and settled, it wasn't long before the innovative young Nigerian started to implement his business ideas.
In 1986 he established CAMAC, a company trading agricultural commodities such as sugar, tobacco and rice. In the early 90s he made the leap into the energy sector after the Nigerian government started to develop its energy market.
With his knowledge of Nigeria and his Houston address, Lawal was ideally positioned to attract major oil companies. In 1991 CAMAC made a deal with the oil giant Conoco, agreeing to jointly operate and share production from any Nigerian discoveries.
This turned out to be Lawal's big break.
With his political contacts, local market knowledge and now with the backing of a major oil firm, Lawal's Houston-based company became an instant player in the energy industry.
As Lawal told CNN: "That partnership I believe was the cornerstone of the CAMAC that you know today. Subsequently with that credibility and the advantage of partnering with Conoco, we were also able to partner with BP and also with Statoil of Norway and currently we have made a partnership with Eni, the largest Italian company, which is one of the top five oil companies in the world."
Now CAMAC has offices in London, Johannesburg, Lagos and Port Harcourt, Nigeria and is involved in oil exploration, refining and trading.
He was awarded the USAfrica Business Person of the Year in 1997 and in 2002 CAMAC was named the largest African-American owned company on the Black Enterprise 100s list.

Nigerian German Chemicals Plc, (NGC) has had an interesting, but rather chequered history. It started life as Hoechst Products in Ikeja area of Lagos. Hoechst Products Nigeria Limited was set up in 1964 to sell pharmaceutical and industrial chemicals. But by 1995, the company decided to divest from Nigeria, and it was sold to the Shonekan family. They renamed it Nigerian German Chemicals Plc, (NGC) and increased their shareholding of the firm, on the stock exchange. Among its superior range of products are Benylin Expectorant (for Adults & Children), Broncholyte Elixir, Colipan Tablets & Syrup, Glanil, Gluformin, NGC Valgin - a brand of Acetaminophen 500mg, Daga, Tabalon, Sparwassar Flavoured Waters (Apple and Lime Flavor) etc.

Eyitayo Adeboye Shonekan, a lawyer, became Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian-German Chemicals PLC in 1999, and its' Vice-Chairman in 1998. He had joined the firm earlier in 1995 as an Executive Director, and was responsible for Materials Management, Logistics and Import Financing. Prior to NGC, he served as an Investment Officer of International Finance Corporation, a subsidiary of the World Bank from 1990 to 1995. He also serves as a Director of several other companies, including Universe Reinsurance Limited, Unic Insurance PLC, Virgin Nigeria Limited, Critical Rescue International and Intersource S A Limited. Shonekan graduated from the University of Reading, Berkshire, United Kingdom in 1986. He also attended the Management Program at Harvard Business School in 1998.

For many years 'Deboye Sonekan was at the helm of the company, and under his watch, the company diversified into the manufacture of household consumer products like detergents, bleaches and disinfectants. The diversification proved successful.
https://www.pressreader.com/nigeria/daily-trust/20160107/281908772128431
Nigerian German Chemicals Plc, (NGC) is one of Nigeria's premier manufacturers and distributors of pharmaceutical, consumer products and oil & gas field chemicals. Born out of Hoechst Nigeria, NGC has over 45 years pedigree, in manufacturing quality products. Building on its solid multinational heritage, NGC's commitment to 'best practice' in business management and the pursuit of manufacturing excellence has enabled it to forge strategic relationships with a number of blue chip companies to complement its long standing tradition of manufacturing quality local brands. NGC stands out as Nigeria's foremost indigenous enterprise in the pharmaceutical and chemical fields, providing world-class companies with a vehicle to promote their products in this most challenging of environments. https://www.emis.com/php/company-profile/AC/Nigerian-German_Chemicals_Plc_en_2037244.html; http://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/people/person.asp?personId=29536536&privcapId=20357361

In 2015, the Sonekan family decided to sell off part of its large shareholding in Nigerian German Chemicals Plc, to a Mauritius fund-management company, Advanced Finance and Investment Group (AFIG Funds) for $14 million USD. Part of the funds will be invested in the NGC. The new firm has fully taken over as the new core investor in the company, and the Sonekan family (as well as NGC) has walked away with a very tidy sum in foreign currency.

Shonekan had hailed the investment from AFIG Funds as the much-needed catalyst to accelerate the growth of the company.

“The partnership with AFIG Funds represents a unique opportunity for NGC. AFIG Funds brings not only capital to accelerate the company’s growth and expansion, but also support to management and international experience that is already helping to strengthen the company’s ability to seize new market opportunities. NGC has a long and proud history as a leader in Africa’s largest market, and we look forward to building on this legacy to help strengthen the Nigerian healthcare sector, as well as facilitate access to world-class medicines for the people of Nigeria,” Shonekan said. http://thenationonlineng.net/new-mauritius-core-investor-takes-over-nigerian-german-chemicals/

Wole FarounManaging Director & Founder. NETplus.

Wole started his career as an IS Engineer with Citigroup before joining ExxonMobil as a Technology Project Manager. In his 15+ year career, he has worked in various functional areas including technology, project management, and business development, sales and marketing. He recently worked as Product Director in two leading Software Companies based in New York, USA where he led the development and commercialization of several web-based products over 5 years. He holds a B.Sc in Computer Engineering from OAU and an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

MASTERCARD PARTNERS NIGERIAN TECH START-UP, NETPLUS TO DEVELOP E-COMMERCE SOLUTION

Mastercard has partnered with Nigerian tech start-up, NetPlus to develop an e-commerce solution.

The Mastercard e-commerce solution empowers the consumer, the e-retailer as well as the delivery service by providing a simple and secure digital solution. Consumers can pre-authorise the payment when placing their order online, the e-retailer is given a sense of comfort and dispatches the goods via a delivery service who is able to use the Mastercard e-commerce app to authorise the release of the payment once the consumer approves, ensuring the merchant is paid immediately.

A key feature is that if the consumer is dissatisfied with their package the transaction can be voided and the funds immediately released, so there is no delay – one of the biggest points of frustration for consumers buying online in Africa.

“Cash has held the sector back from reaching its full potential in Africa,” says Omokehinde Adebanjo, Vice President and Area Business Head for West Africa at Mastercard. “We have invested a great deal of energy and resources to develop a workable solution that will meet the diverse needs of merchants and consumers across the continent, and world. It is fitting that our partnership with NetPlus, an African-born tech company, has resulted in us achieving our goal of digitizing the e-commerce sector.”

“The solution comes with extensive benefits for merchants and consumers,” says Faroun. “For e-retailers, the pre-authentication reflects commitment on the part of the consumer to the purchase, as well as guarantees real time payment and improved liquidity. Consumers benefit from renewed confidence in online shopping, peace of mind as the payment is only processed on delivery without the need for cash.”

NetPlus is the first African start-up to be selected by the Mastercard Start Path programme, an initiative open to start-ups from Africa and across the world who are rethinking banking and payments and who are well established already, having secured significant investment. But the Igbos are better businessmen overall ,these folks here might have 2 billionaires and the rest are 35m beggars but the Igbo are more level overall with lesser inequalities.
better business men in what sense?

Going by your logic, why is south east generating less money than north they abuse day and night if the wealth is evenly distributed?

Why is poverty almost same as what you will find in boko haram ravaged north east?
