I agreed with u until u said in mordern cars. Most mechatronic cars I have driven can still be rolled forward on drive without the car completely stopping from a reverse position. Yes its bad but sometimes I can't help myself.

if a car is rolling backwards, I think d best thing is 2 put car on neutral with ur foot on d break 2 control its speed

It is bad. Allow the car to stop by applying your break and then change to drive.It will damage your gearbox.

On high speed some time ago, I erroneously threw my gear into R from N because I thought the car was already in D and wanted to throw it to N not knowing I was actually throwing N to R. The car just automatically went off. Remember this was on highway speed. No noise, no gnash, nothing, it just went off calmly. I restarted and car was fine again.

You are very very wrong, and u shouldn't have used the word "sure" I own an infiniti fx 35 2008 model.... But there is no point arguing with you.

actually it promotes smoother flow of transmission. Scenario, when reversing, and you throw gear to D, the car brakes naturally and heads to move forward. Personally, it's boring to reverse, press full brake till halt, now shift to D then move forward.
to answer ur question, Nothing go do your car.

Unless this is ironic, the advice is terrible. A manual tranny may survive it but autos will suffer badly.

I think it conserves fuel - it's called coasting.

However, other than conserving fuel, this is sheer attitude transferred from my early years of driving manual transmission cars- a sheer habit I have not been able to unlearn.
