Please I have been a silent observer/learner on this thread and I must say that I have learnt quite a lot.
I have quite a number of questions but let ask this one first.
I am in my 8th week (haven't started antenatal yet) and I want to know if it is safe for me to take malt drinks (like Maltina or Malta Guinness) and Soymilk (Vitamilk).
I also want to ask if I need to take an extra dose of folic acid with the Pregnacare-Plus that I am taking currently

New born babies can sleep in air conditioned room during hot season, I know the typical nigerian believe is to wear plenty clothes for new born babies without AC during hot season/weather with the belief babies don't know heat but it's not true, it's also one of the reasons why babies tend to have lots of rashes. AC is also better than fan for babies.

Don't put the baby directly in front of the AC, the AC should not be too cold, just enough to cool the room and prevent it from being hot, too much heat can lead to illness including sudden infant death, too much cold can lead to cough and catarrh. So if it's hot use the AC just right.

Change your daughter's soap and cream incase she is reacting to it, and don't expose her to too much heat, and check that the clothes are cotton etc, because for most babies heat and allergy is what causes rashes, especially reoccurring one.
try coconut oil mixed with shea butter.

hi teamie oya pack your load to the newborn thread. mybaby reacts to drugs the same way. I use a syringe as dropper for the drugs that come without dropper and I drop very little at a time to the sides of her mouth then let her display. Don't know where u live but AC is the last thing on my mind right now. We sleep with all our windows closed and we even close the bathroom window cuz of the air that comes in from under the door. My baby's health has really improved since I stopped letting her sweating bother me. No more fighting cough and catarrh and weird breathing. Please leave AC for the hot season. Use a face towel and agnesia powder to keep her free from sweat. Try and buy baby tribotan for the rashes

Well, I took malt but I opened it and allowed the gases to escape first. I think carbonated and gaseous drinks are not too good, especially coke and such soft drinks in first trimester sha. I think soymilk is fine.

it's quite common though not normal that Adhesions(the joining together of organs,pls google more about it) usually form esp after Open Abdominal surgeries and Pelvic Surgeries and that's what usually makes it quite difficult to conceive after such surgeries as Ceaserian sections & myomectomy. So am asking if anybody has successfully death with that naturally without having to go through another surgery to clear the adhesions.

Awwww So sorry about that..

Ok, on the Pregnacare, I learned it contains sufficient amount of Folic acid already, and no need to take extra Folic acid. You could check the drug composition on the leaflet for more info, but I think you don't need extra Folic acid with the Pregnacare. Easy peasy pregnancy to you dear

1. Pls has anyone ever dealt with Adhesions that usually form after Open Abdominal Surgeries (Ceaserian sections, myomectomy) successfully without a laparoscopic surgery that usually leads to more adhesions with time? there is always risk of adhesion forming after such abdominal surgeries. I was just about to start working on them when God answered me with my miracle.
2. Do you think all these Fertility massages esp by these Ijaw women could help with Adhesion? I didn't try it. When I did laparoscopy, it was discovered that one side of my ovary was buried in adhesions caused by fibroid surgery. Some do it, but I would strongly not not recommend it. Go to block tubes section here on nairaland and read on how you can loosen up adhesions.
3. Pls any contact of a tested, tried & true Ijaw woman in Ibadan or Delta state? No contact

Thanks cappo, may God bless u for d good work. My last antenantal was last Wednesday and for d first time i had swollen legs which i informed d doctor so she checked my bp and d next thing she said was that my bp was high and sent me to the hospital straight to be monitored seriously and if need be, i should be induced ( induction ke...mogbe ooo)she also checked my cervix and said it was closed ( imagine at 39weeks and 3days oo) i sha carry mysef to hospital... come and see gbogbo monitoring. Machine set for babys heart beat. I was told i might be induced...come and see me shaking ( induction is my greatest fear) i com ask if i have a right to choose cs to induction and doctor said i really do not have an option.hmmmm. so they waited for urine and blood test result to come and they were good... came back negative. They checked bp like 4 times and they all came back good. Na so dem later decide to leave me to go home and come back next monday for antenantal and see how far. I was happy ehn..even though i rili want to have this baby right now abeg no be through induction ooo. Na so i carry my load run comot for hospital.

Lime, lemon, uda used in peppersoup, pottash(akaun) for abacha, isiewu and d likes should be avoided by all means too..

●Beddings - i.e bedsheet
●Mosquito netting


Feeding:
●Bottles and teats
●Sterilizer - electric, microwave/ cold water with sterilizing tablets
●Bottle brush for washing
●Formular if using
●Breast pump - manual or electric
●Breast pads
●Nipple. Cream - lanolin based.
●Breast feeding cover - Optional as some ladies are comfy without it.

Bathing and changing:
●Baby bath
●Small towel - doesnt need to be a baby towel many people complain they are not absorbent enough.
●Nappies - disposables or reusable - for the disposable nappies maybe 1 pack of size 1 and the rest a size 2. (allow for up to 12 nappy changes in a 24 hr period)
●Wipes - disposable or reusable - for disposable get the fragrance free type for sensitive skin.
●Body cream
●Hair cream
●Bath soap
●Nappy cream - nothing special, vaseline, ori or coconut oil work well


Carrying:
●Car seat -: i see this as an essential item.
●Baby carrier if you need one
●Rocker/ swing / bouncer - now with this i would advice get one that is newborn to toddler i.e up to 18 kg as most bouncers have a 9kg weight limit and depending on how big you baby is, may outgrow it by 6 months!. Also look for the ones that have a newborn position which is an almost flat lying setting, as some og them mainly the electrical swing types tend to have baby in a funny position, and you may not really be able to use it properly in the first few weeks until baby grows a bit. .


Clothing:
Few tips:
Babies outgrow clothes unbeliveable fast. get as many unisex items as possible so that you can have longer use in case next baby is of opposite sex.

Do not buy too many newborn items as you baby may be big and they may not even fit. 0-3 months is ideal.

Dont get sucked into buying a load of fancy dresses under 3months, your baby will live in bodysuits for the first 3 months so dont waste your money.

Shoes for newborns are also a waste of money to me. They just make them pretty, so we can buy them.. hry have absolutely no functional use!

Factor in how many times a day you would bath a baby and how often you intend to do laundry. You can always buy more if you need to.

●Vests - both longsleeved and short sleeved versions. May be 7-10 number to start

●Bodysuits/all-in-one/onsies - get the ones with integrated scratch mittens ... that way you do not start looking for mittens which always have a way of getting lost as they never seem to fit well. about 7 - 10 in number to start

●1 special outing for naming or christening if required

●Socks! Loadssssss these could also double up as mittens, as they are more elastic and they wont fall off! I would say a dozen pairs especially of they are being used on the hands as well

●Bibs... loadssssss but at least a dozen!

●Burb cloths or muslins to wipe up drool, spit ups and all sorts.
● A couple of blankets or shawls.

discharged and at home! Bs later in the day!!!!!

Actually there are no specific fruits to be avoided by ALL pregnant women. what to be avoided depends on the woman and what she reacts to.

Dr's will tell you to add lemon to water to help battle nausea and it works for some people.

Pineapple and pawpaw can be consumed in small quantities by some, although many women react to it, so I guess it's better to avoid.

I know someone who reacted to apples, pineapples, bananas and same person used mangoes to help with indigestion, consumed plenty lemons, oranges, drank zobo and ate dates.

So really take a little of available fruits and see if you react, stop. if you don't continue.
