This is sad, how can you give them just 48hrs to move. Where do u expect them to relocate to within such a short time? I thought governance was about the pple, if u are doing governance w/o a human heart for the pple then the essence of governance must have been defeated.

Ambode in a bid to develop Lagos shud stop treating the poor among his pple like trash but with dignity and human feelings knowing they are human being as well with right to life.

Those places are not residential areas. Giving them any form of notice at all is even humane enough. There are many shanties in Lagos and they should go. It's not by force to stay in Lagos. You can't be creating havoc and disaster for an entire city just because you want free accommodation.

Especially, people living/doing business in illegal places. Still can blame them,I will blame govt because no one would want to live or do business in an illegal place if there is adequate infrastructure.
That is not the problem.
People do business in illegal places because they can't afford solid structures.

The 48 hours notice came after the 6 months notice. The demolition was handled according to laws of the state.

Most of those shainties where build ontop of drainages there by blocking runoffs...
i know this area well from my stay there and i can tell you,the shops there were not built ontop no gutters ,nor constitute a blockage ,to the flow of drain water.agreed,it isnt too clean an environment, but demolishing it,WILL NOT aid free flow of water.Get your facts right and dont rush to support wrong actions.its insensitive for the government to issue so short a notice of eviction;most of these traders, earn a living from these shops and once demolished, they are now without a means of making hay.if some resort to acts like theft and prostitution, its the same you that will come on hard,on them.

Affordable shops/stores should be made available for petty traders not like Tejuoso market. If a govt have the interest of the masses at heart, when they are building a world class market, they should also be building low cost markets which petty traders can afford.

It is not the duty of the government to subsidise business cost's
unless the ROI is in the public's best interest.

But if you think otherwise, fight for an increase in tax rate so government
can use the excess money to fund private businesses.

As you well know, government is not a magician, it operates on money.

I don't just understand people. on top of that if government give them warning and final notice, they will still be behaving like nothing is at stake

Most of the illegal became illegal due to the land act

Some of them have live over 30years in that place

We are in democracy is all about the people

Relocating them will help stop another shanties in future
Do you even understand what you are saying? We are not talking about unused property but shacks built under bridges. How does living for a period of time in a shack on a land owned by someone else make it legal? Am i missing something here?

In as much as I support new Lagos

I will advice the Lagos state government to look for lands along ikorodu and build estates so that when you clean up the shanties there will be immediate cushion.

I may be right or wrong

All I know is Eko onibaje
Wise saying but Ikorodu is not a good option for now.

Not true. sad That section of Obalende close to the bridge has been demolished many times. After the demolition, they go back there again to rebuild the shanties under the bridge and on top of the canal or drainages. They no dey hear word! angry

Who sold land under the bridge or on top of the canal/gutters/drainage to them? shocked

There are shanties and slums even in Washington DC mr.

You guys keep making so much noise about "Yorubas jumping into every biafran thread" yet you guys just can't keep off threads that concern them.

What has this thread got to do with igbos? Why are you people converging here as though it is some slum I'm Aba that is being demolished?

You want them to mind their business, you people should learn to miind yours.

Thank you.
Oga there are no shanties or slums in Washington DC o pls don't talk about what you don't know.

Why are you people this disgusting? What has this thread got to do with Igbos? Why does he have to feel sorry for you people? Doesn't one have the right to love who they wanna love and not love who they don't want to anymore? What makes you think one MUST sympathise with you when you are visited with some misfortune?

When the said shops were demolished, were igbos the only ones affected? Why should he single igbos out to sympathise with?

Haven't you realised the inviolable law of nature that "whatever you sow, you shall reap" applies to you people as well? You wake up everyday and openly wish someone's dad, husband, brother, uncle, and president dead simply because you HATE him, then turn around hoping folks would love you? huh

Your attitude is utterly reprehensible. Deal with your issues like a man and stop hoping around looking for sympathisers like sissies.
Na true word you talk!! cheesy

It is under a bridge. Who sold land under the bridge to them, to build shanties upon? Do they have a survey plan or CofO for those properties?

If it is rich that built illegal structures they will give them time because it is the poor they don't need time. I read on NL that some estates are illegal and they will demolish them. Y have they not demolish them? because it is the rich that owns it.

Government destroying the people they claim to be protecting. At least they could have given them time even if there is no money.

Sadly for them, they are sad byproducts of their own hate mongering and peddling environment.

When parents train and feed their children hate, bigotry and bitterness, their entire society and community reap the same hate, bigotry, and bitterness.
